Natalie Portman was fantastic in Jackie. It's some serious masterpiece acting. I don't expect her to win by any means though so I'm just happy she was nominated.!

Suicide Squad is more Oscar worthy than any Marvel film last year. Are the fanboys okay? Can they still breath?

The Animation category is pretty perfect. Good diverse representation, and Zootopia rocks.

I don't know if removed, but they should consider only allowing people who want to take the category seriously to vote for it.

Might as well cancel the entire awards show then. Lol.

Mahershala Ali was way better than Bridges. I was legit surprised Bridge got nominated for that.

think you are the only bringing up fanboys and ect. everyone is chill.

Animation category like always is a joke.

Hell yeah! Mel Gibson. My main man. Keep making movies!

Lala Land will win it all and that’s cool with me. Great movie.

Moonlight was a nothing movie. Really up its own ass thinking it’s so artistic.

I must be missing something with Hell or High Water. I watched it and it felt like a direct to DVD No Country for Old Men.

Didn’t see any of the other big movies in there.

Hmm....

I don't understand why Amy Adams isn't nominated. She carries that movie.

Forced out by Meryl Streep because of the speech. Shame, really, easily the best performance of an actress last year.

La La Land will sweep everything except for Best Picture, which will go to Moonlight. Calling it now.

really bummed about Amy Adams not being nominated. I wanted to make "amy adams never winning an oscar"-memes like people did for Leo.

Mahershala Ali was literally in Moonlight for what seemed like 5 minutes. I enjoyed his performance of course but it's strange.

My closest comparison is Boyhood. I wanted more of him, but had various range of performances by other actors.

Although, it was great to see Algernon from The Knick pop in there.

Ali was great as well, don't get me wrong. Either one would be the right choice.

Did Your Name get snubbed or was it not eligible for best animated film? I don't remember if it came out in the US.
It was eligible. It got snubbed. It will not be eligible to be considered next year. It had no chance to be nominated given the packed field.

Actually, Best Actress in general is a fantastic category this year stacked with loads of talent. Better than Lead Actor. The weak link is Emma Stone. But she is probably winning this year and I love her anyways, so, eh. Amy should have been nominated but it is okay.

There has to be at least 10 guys who watch these films and want to vote for it critically vs letting their kids vote for it. At least I hope there are.

Supersonic, idiotic, disconnecting, not respecting, who would really ever wanna go and top that
Amy Adams didn't get any love between Arrival and Nocturnal Animals? That's surprising to me.

My predictions
Best Picture - Moonlight or La La Land. I'll go with my gut and say La La Land
Lead Actor - Casey Affleck
Lead Actress - Natalie Portman
Supporting Actor - Mahershala Ali
Supporting Actress - Viola Davis
Best Director - Denis Villeneuve
Animated Feature - Kubo...it'll probably be Zootopia, but I'm rooting for Kubo as underdog
Adapted Screenplay - Fences
Original Screenplay - Hell or High Water
Cinematopgraphy - Arrival
Best Docu - OJ Made in America

A La La Land sweep is a very possible. It's accessible and I could totally see the voters eating it up. I do wonder who will win Original Score. La La Land seems like the easy pick, but lots of critics said Jackie's score stood out to them. I could see that snatching it

La la land's whiteness correlates directly with the amount of oscar nominations it has.

That is to say, a whole fucking lot.

This poster pulses with an appeal so broad the typical restraints of our societies fall by the wayside.
Annette Benning (20th Century Women) really deserved a nomination. I loved La La Land but I wasn't blown away by Emma Stone (or Ryan Gosling either, for that matter).

Park Chan-wook not getting even a single nomination for his work on The Handmaiden is ridiculous. South Korea dropped the ball not submitting it as foreign language film, but I still thought it would get a nomination for editing or adapted screenplay.

I think that, due to Academy rules, Your Name couldn't be nominated this year? He might get the nomination next year, as he comes out in the US in 2017. Not entirely sure though.

It was part of the 27 films submitted this year. I guess people just didn't check all of them? It's just a popularity contest, more so than the other categories.

Yeah? Whats up?
Mel Gibson has made 3 all timers! Braveheart, Apocalypto and Hacksaw Ridge.

Moonlight's log line was interesting..too bad the movie sucked and the main character was a boring moron. It thought it was some piece of art...Oh it takes place in a bad neighborhood but we will use classical music as the score.

Hmmmmmmm

Not saying it should have replaced anything or be slotted in anywhere but - alongside many of the nominations - one of my favourite movies this year was 'Hunt For The Wilderpeople'. It's been a long time since I've seen a comedy film as earnest, funny and well-made as this. Its usual that comedies only get judged by how many jokes they can have in and often its as though their cinematography, editing and score are just unimportant.

The actors were also phenomenal as well, it'll become a staple of my yearly movie viewings, I'd imagine.

Korea fucked that up for themselves when they made The Age of Shadows their eligible film for the Foreign Film Oscar instead of the movie that was significantly better.

I was going to mention this but I thought everyone knew about this from the golden globes nominations.

For once hollywood wasn't at fault

How can you say that with a straight face when Moana is in that list? :p

Kubo at least pulled some heartstrings (it's a beautiful tale about coping with loss actually), Moana had only it's music and visuals going for it imo.

wrong, Moana is a much better movie than Kubo.
Kubo has some weird scenes that don't fit at all. No real tonal consistency either.

The visual artists deserve a better script because it looked great.

Nah, The Handmaiden was too strange to get nominated. None of Park's previous (superior) movies got nominated either.

I really feel like I'm missing something with La La Land. It was a great looking movie, but that's all I really felt for it.

Sad for Arrival and Amy Adams in general. :(
