I tell all my friends that tv shows only began to get awesome when 24 started to air. Jack Bauer is probably my favorite fictional character of all time. My sister just texted me and asked "Did u see it?" Hell yeah I saw it. Welcome back Jack. Walter White aint got nothin on u!!

but...that's like, after we all knew her from 24. I don't see why now people are reminded of that character and not Chloe. Unless it's the hair.

Don't worry I'm in the same boat. A few mates rave about the show, but I just don't have the time to catch up on all the previous seasons.
Is each season self contained or is there some underlying subplot.
I'd say 85% self contained, but characters carry over at times, even though they might skip a season or 2. I'd say season 5 is the most "carry over" of the seasons.

We are all very jealous of you guys.
They are sort of self contained, but some of the biggest payoffs come from underlying subplot. If you want to watch them, there's no reason to not start from the beginning, as the first two seasons are generally agreed upon as two of, if not the best two seasons there are.
Edit: Worst case scenario you can use wiki to catch up on any seasons you don't get to before the season 9 premiere. If you had to choose, you'd be better off watching the first 4 seasons than the last 4, if that makes any sense.

That's not fair to say. Season 5 was the best season.
Im just so so excited that in this "Golden Age" of television that 24 has returned.I hope it brings something new and fresh for the series. Hopefully there will be more character development. It was a great spot. It got me hyped. I always knew in my heart that they would bring him back. 5-5-14. Mark your calendars!!

Anyway, so happy 24 is back! This year is actually turning out to be a fantastic year for television! Blacklist (which is amazing, by the way!), Bates Motel, Better Call Saul (thank goodness for this!), and now 24: Live Another Day. I can't wait!

Definitely not arguing that, I just mean that if I was advising a new 24 watcher I'd say start at the beginning rather than trying to watch the seasons that lead into season 9 if there's a time constraint. Ideally they will watch all 8 seasons, obviously

Watch it, but remember to treat it like a graphic novel TV show. Too many people come into the series complaining about realism lol...screw that. Constant moles and nukes get old though. I'd also like to see more of the stealthy Jack.
