Still not sure how this is going to work with the real time format. The first two episodes cover
12 p
m to
02p
m. And we can assume the final two episodes will also be back to back. It's been said that each episode still covers a real hour, which if true means the other 20 hrs will be covered in only 8 hours, leaving 12 of the 24 hours uncovered. Will there be a pair of 6 hour breaks while everyone sleeps or what?

There would be almost enough time for Jack to fly back to New York in the second half, and then on to Los Angeles from there!

I will still be there for the twists and turns but man that short clip doesn't inspire confidence in the action scenes. 24 could get away with its cheap, sloppily directed action back when this type of drama was just in its infancy, but now after stuff like Strike Back it just looks embarrassing.

You're basing that off of a one-off clip that was filmed just for a commercial and won't be a part of the actual show?

They've confirmed that each episode is an hour of real time, but there may be jumps between episodes (as you've stated).

For example, episodes 1, 2 and 3 may well flow directly one after another. There may then be a 3 hour gap between episodes 3 and 4 to make up for this. Maybe Bauer driving to Bournemouth to tackle Boscombe druggies or something. I don't think it's too much of an issue - I presume it'll be treated as if the missing hours don't exist lol

yeah, the main creative guy behind the scenes (Jon Cassar) had nothing to do with the filming of the teaser.

Yeah, can't judge anything from that commercial as it has nothing to do with the show and was filmed by an entirely different crew.

To be honest though, he's right that it won't come close to Strike Back's action scenes. Nothing does. FOX isn't gonna let Kiefer hang off a helicopter or run on top of a speeding train with no wires or most of the crazy stuff they do on Strike Back. They would never be able to get filming permits to do that kind of stuff in London anyway.

I don't really think it's fair to compare the shows - Strike Back is more of a pure action show (and that's where 95% of its budget goes) while 24 is espionage/political thriller/action.

I just think that seeing as they've dropped the 24 episode format, keeping it stuck to 1 show = 1 hour thing is really limited, especially for the usual cliffhangers they throw in to link the eps together. But I guess 'bad guy preparing for something sinister' can lead into these time jumps without seeming out of place. Time gaps during an episode, say 30mins per ad break might have been a better route, but they may have plans for Jack travelling to Europe or Bournemoth :p to fill in for some of this, I'm not convinced it'll all be set in London yet.

It's not even about 24 having to have "ridiculous action" of course it's not about that, but even the simple shootouts in 24 have aged terribly, and this teaser is full of composited explosions, CGI muzzle flash and so on.

I don't want 24 to have Bauer running around with a RPG but the show just needs people who know who to direct and edit these kinds of scenes properly without it looking stiff, awkward and full of cheap effects. I didn't know this was by a different team though so maybe the end result will be fine.

That's completely untrue. Banshee easily matches up. Both are on Cinemax though :)

Hope Quarry will continue this proud tradition

Really? IDK what you are talking about man, I usually end up rewatching the entire series like once every year and I'm always surprised every time how good the actions scenes are. Anywho, I don't care about crazy ridiculous action, that is the shit that ruined 24. I care more about a good well thought out story that doesn't fall into the same stale old 24 tropes of the past.

My only wish in that regard would be that infinite ammo is a thing of the past. Seeing people just shoot 50 times without reloading just annoys me.

But yeah, the firefights are pretty poorly done. Very A-teamlike in that regard, with people shooting their M4s in full auto 20 feet from each other, targets somehow not getting hit even though 4 men are unloading, that sort of nonsense.

So this scene didn't get you hyped?

Basically, I want more scenes like the firefight in Jack Reacher.

I know the teaser promo isn't a scene from the actual season, but a scene something like that would be pretty interesting to open to after a gap of a few hours. So for example, Jack spends a few hours tracking down [insert bad guys] and uncovering [conspiracy goes here] only to ultimately fail at preventing whatever attacks are looming. An episode ends with the first of an imminent wave of attacks. Cut to several hours later and set the next chunk of episodes during the ongoing attacks and ensuing chaos.

Eh not really. Banshee has some brutal fight scenes but strike back is king of action scenes right now

It's a (good)action movie every episode

I love both shows but Strike Back is a step above Banshee in terms of action IMO.

Banshee has probably the best hand-to-hand combat fight scenes I've ever seen though. I thought they'd never be able to top the MMA fight and every two episodes they did something even more crazy.

It's going to take you AGES if you're planning to go all the way through again lol.

Blasted through season 7 in about 4 evenings. Started rewatching season 8 tonight.

[I forgot how awful some of the filler plot is, the convict ex boyfriend stuff is so incredibly terrible]

Nah dude. Started two Thursdays ago while working full time and I just finished season 6.

Speaking of, as awful as season 6 was for the most part, that final scene was absolutely fantastic, beautifully acted, and heartbreaking.

Lol yeah rewatching it is actually making me appreciate the fact that they won't be doing real-time this season.

This poster pulses with an appeal so broad the typical restraints of our societies fall by the wayside.
Watching Season 5 now - up to episode 8. This still stands as the ONLY season without any filler.
Yeah, it's remarkable how relentless and action-packed that season was.

I hope that this series being set in London means that they finally use the 24 hour clock on the show.

I still don't understand why it's not widely used in America. Here in the UK, we use the 24 hour clock (12:00, 13:00, 14:00 etc) for everything. It's so much better.

edit: hahahaha, on S5 I've just got to the part where CTU are trying to work out what building the plan they found on the dead terrorist is for. It's CTU of course - how does it take a whole hour to work that out?!

edit edit: oops no, it's a hospital. I remember now!

I wonder which 12 hours they'll choose for this season... hopefully they'll keep some balance between the number of day and night episodes.

It needs to take hints from Strikeback.

To be fair, Strike Back shoots in South Africa and Hungary where you can get away with anything. Dozens of armed extras, thousands of blanks, helicopters, trains, trucks, huge explosions when trains crash into trucks and access to any location they wanted. I was in Cape Town last year and on a rewatch saw the places they had massive shootouts were some of the busiest downtown shopping streets and well known landmarks. London will have much more restrictions on what they can do.

LOL, I had a dream that Jack and I were rounding up some terrorists. =p Got a little weird toward the end; some of them hung themselves (???)

Tamer Hassan now cast in an unspecified role.

Considering the talent so far (Colin Salmon, Stephen Fry, etc), it's brilliant to see that Howard Gordon and the 24 crew are dedicated to hiring real British actors. good stuff
