That new one is pretty great, but I dunno I really like this thread title.
Never forget:
In Season 4, Audrey was dating Jack while separated from her husband Paul Raines. Paul went with Jack on a mission for CTU and got shot. It came down to a situation to where a key target with information for the mission and Paul both needed medical assistance, but CTU only had the capability to treat one at that time. Jack made the call that the suspect get the treatment leaving Paul to die. Later in the season Jack fakes his own death with the help of David Palmer, Michelle, Chloe, and Tony, without telling Audrey so she left that season thinking that she had lost both her husband and her boyfriend.
In Season 5, Jack comes back out of hiding and Audrey is initially upset with him for not telling her that he wasn't dead, but over the course of that season, they get over that and rekindle their romance. But at the end of the season Jack is abducted by the Chinese government as punishment for crimes he committed against them in S4.
Between Season 5 and Season 6, Audrey goes to China to try and save Jack from a life of torture and pain in a Chinese prison, but she ends up being captured by the government and sent to a prison herself, while they fake that she died in a car accident. Later in the season, the Chinese use Audrey as leverage to force Jack into stealing a component from a Russian suitcase nuke. Jack and CTU rescued Audrey, but they found that she was tortured so much in China that she was psychologically catatonic and unresponsive. At the end of the season, Audrey is sent home to live with her father who subsequently forbids Jack from ever seeing her again, basically calling him a harbinger of death and pain. (This is last time we saw James Heller or Audrey before this season, leading quite a few people to think that Audrey either never recovered from her coma or died from her injuries)
TL;DR: Jack got Audrey's hubby killed and nearly got her killed, leading Heller to ban him from seeing her because he's bad news.
As for why the government hates him, to keep a long story short, in Season 8, his lover Renee Walker was killed as part of a Russian conspiracy that went all the way up to former president Charles Logan, then-current president Alison Taylor, and current Russian president Yuri Suvarov. This sent Jack over the edge and he set out to make all those who were responsible for Renee's death pay, killing anyone who got in his way. His kill count here included 5 Americans and 12 Russians, in addition to kidnapping and threatening President Logan. Taylor eventually ends the conspiracy and keeps Jack from being killed by Logan's mercs, but still calls for Jack to answer for the deaths/kidnapping on the day and remand himself to the Attorney General. Instead of doing that, he's goes into hiding.
TL;DR: Jack's girl got killed and he got pissed off and starting offing anyone responsible for it and never came clean for it.
She isn't the only one. RIP Naveed Stark.

This was one of the most tense moments of 24 for me. I think I stood up with my hands on my head.
I felt that the Chappelle episode is still the greatest of all time as far as suspense is concerned.
The fact that he wasn't supposed to die and they changed it because of a leak still amazes me to this day.
explain it to me
They were going to fake Chappelle's death, and have him shipped off to another country. Jack would have used a double.
But that plot point was leaked, so they killed him off instead. Which was by far the better choice. I personally think that leak was intentional.

God, I wish there was clip of that somewhere.
First time I heard of that, too. Ashame, because that final scene with Chappelle was heartwrenching.
Also, that final scene in season 6 was awesome. Jack confronting Heller and getting pissed.
Jack: "YOU DO NOT TELL ME WHAT TO DO! THE ONLY THING I DID, THE ONLY THING I'VE EVER DONE WAS TO DO WHAT YOU, AND PEOPLE LIKE YOU HAVE ASKED!"
God, I wish there was clip of that somewhere.
This is really good - how did you remember all of this??
I kept waiting for Tony to show up like the spoilers promised, but they ended up cutting that ending and saving the Tony surprise for next season...
That is really quire brilliant, well done .24: Live Another Day |OT| Game of Drones
Redact my last comment. New thread title is amazing. RIP in peace Naveed Stark

I remember that final episode had fake spoilers about Nina having an evil(er) twin that showed up at the last second in a limo or something.
Season 6 was really leaky, the whole thing was out there in the open. Not sure if other seasons were like that too, but this one stuck out for me.
Just watched season 5, it's alright.
So which season has interesting plot?
24 should really be renamed to "Nobody listens to Jack and every character is a cartoon level of dumb."
How many presidents/worlds do you have to save before people listen to you? I mean, the president's all "thanks for saving us all and warning of the impending attacks and you were totally right but i still have to hand you over cuz the russians are mad." And the Navarro guy's like "you're probably smarter than the entire CIA bureau here combined but I still have to fire you because someone complained. You were 100% right and did everything amazingly awesome but I think it's cuz you're trying to prove something and that's bad for some reason. You're done."
It really detracts from the show when everyone other than Jack is so fucking stupid.

Well that's a problem for the writers, not the fans.I fully disagree.
if people listened to Jack, we wouldn't have a show. It'd be over in seconds.
What people do get is that is interesting and tense the first few times, not the millionth.Yeah, what most people don't seem to think of is the show imitates real life very well in that you have all this bureaucratic BS getting in the way of getting shit done whether its political like Heller has to deal with or conflicting personalities and procedure like at the CIA.
Well that's a problem for the writers, not the fans.
Basically, if there were half the seasons of Jack saving the bloody country as there were,
say this was season 4/5 it wouldn't be so bad.
But every goddamn time.
