3 "new" PGR3 images

Bubble boy. :lol :lol

It's true. Well, the comment didn't make any sense anyway. From those shots, the buildings were very much comparable to GTA3, the PC version.
You really think these buildings:

Look as good as these:

The windows actually have depth in the pgr shots.

This is what polyphony can do (granted it's photomode) on 6 year old hardware that is "hard to develop for".... With the funding and tallent they have, Im sure they can pull it off. :)

Yeah sure. The CG image you use impressed everyone when it was released 7 months ago, and you are telling me that Polyphony can do the exact same rendering quality in realtime with 12 cars and an ultra detailed environment.
But of course!
They may manage to get something that looks very very good, it won't ever really come close to this CG image's overall quality. Look at the reflections, the almost perfect way the lightning is used and the details on the car. At first glance it's hard to tell this is a CG image.

I doubt Polyphony will achieve this on the PS3 but there's something that just popped into my mind and well, it's on Doube D side of the argument.
Do you remember GT2 CG intro? It was amazing and soooo realistic at the time but look at it today and it's like GT4 in game graphics.
If the PS3 is as powerfull compared to the PS2 as the Ps2 is compared to the Ps1 it means one thing: There's a chance we see racing games looking like the intro CG of Gt4...

And the intro of GT4 (for the Ford GT) is not all that far from the Citroen or whatever the car in Doube D's pic.

Yeah I think it's really begining to show that people who think this game is ugly are the same people who would think it was fantastic if it was a PS3 game.

It's like oh it doesn't look good, yet they can't show you anything currently in development that looks better. Apparently some of us have been playing next-gen games 3 years into the future and can tell us what they should look like.

"All I know is what I've seen. That looked bump mapped to me based on what I've seen of bump mapping.
And it doesn't look good. Test Drive does, however."

Olimario looking at those shots, if you told me there were from the SAME game I would believe you, the only difference is one is a still shot in 3D studio max(or whatever they're using) and the other one is in a real game, in motion, where other objects are casting effect on it. One has a big ass shadow on the hood and the other one doesn't. Look at the left side of the Nissan under the mirror where there's a shadow going across the whole care and look at the PG3 car...they LOOOK EXACTLY the same...material, shyniness and everything else but the PG3 car is also reflecting the environment because its being hit by the sun directly.

But I would love to hear WHY you think one looks good and the other looks UGLY. Can you even put the differences you're seeing in words?

oh and ps:

here's a definition of bump mapping so you quit using it and stop sounding like an idiot:

"The process of creating and displaying a texture where the values of the texture are used to simulate the bumpiness of an object's surface. Bump mapping is used to add detail to an image without increasing the number of polygons. Bump maps do not move the geometry of an object, but they do affect the shading of a surface, giving the illusion of a pattern being embossed on the surface. Bumps are applied by matching up a series of grayscale pixels with colored pixels on the rendered, colored object. Lighter grayscale pixels create a sense of maximum relief or maximum"

"An advanced method of displaying textures not as a smooth surface, but as a rough surface which responds to different angles of illumination. Supported only in future hardware and API’s. The water texture here is the result of bump mapping. This is generated by the PixelSquirt chipset."

Now tell me where do you see BUMP mapping on that car? The words alone tell you it has something to do with BUMPS.

I demand some better trolling dammit. If I was a troll I could come up with some REAL motives to down this game. But not what you're using.

LOLOLO i looked closely at the front of the car and it's a Ferrari. Permition to laugh. :lol :lol

Is Bizzare Creations still a 3rd party? Why does it say Microsoft Game Studios?
2nd party (hi jarrod !) game. Everything is financed by Microsoft, the game and every assets are (usually) own by MS too. And quite a few MS people work with Bizarre too.

I've seen good normal mapping, but this generation has shown me that it's blurry and unrealistic most of the time.
It's great in PC titles like HL2, though. I remember seeing the normal mapped walls and being blown away.

Oli, I don't think PGR3 cars have ANY normal mapping going on. Cars aren't the best things to use normal mapping on, especially those with body damage like PGR series.

I think you just don't like the shader FXs Bizzare chose on the cars.

No need to defend Bizzare Shog.

:lol Defend what? I love how PGR3 looks! I have the screens set as the desktop for christ's sake.

Doesn't change the fact that you are still a tool and Oli's mistaken yet again.

it really doesnt. jesus people will find anything to nit pick. even from this angle and distance, it looks decent. when racing you'd never notice any flaws. i doubt you'd notice flaws even during a replay from that same angle in motion.

some of you guys need to step back and evalute why you like games.

PGR3 aside why are you defending low-resolution textures?

Next-gen is all about HD content - high resolution. Leave the low-res stuff with Xbox/PS2/GameCube.

i'm just saying you can always find flaws when analyzing screens. that chian link fence looks a bit poor in that still shot. i really doubt i'd ever notice it in any in-game scenario, so whats the use of bitching about it ?

Does PGR3 still only have 6 cars?

Yes you would. Its a replay angle so it would be more evident. With the hardware Nvidia have i am sure they'll eliminate it. Never the less i expect more from GT5.

Yeah makes sense, I admit.

It looks kind of low-res in stills but you don't play screenshots, right?

It would stick out more in photo-mode, though.

I think what a lot of people are bitching about is the fact that visual comprimises are still going to be made. Take for example the crowds in sports games. Last gen, we had detailed player models, simpler sideline models and cardboard cutouts or sprites for the spectators. This gen, we have even more detailed player models, sideline models that are likely to be about as good as the player models this time around and 3D spectators, but the models are simpler and not all unique.

So we're evolving....but there are still comprimises. There a shitton of stuff going on in PGR3 that is not being done this gen, but that does not mean it won't get better the gen after next gen (not to mention from launch game to 3rd gen game).

We want perfection....but probably won't have it for another two generations. Gonna be fun watching the graphic whores get more and more picky, though. (The brake pads aren't rounded! <----- actual complaint from a PGR3 thread on GAF)

Once again a nice 360 thread spoilt by a few sad little boys. Ho hum...

It looks like it. More than 6 cars for a city racer wouldn't work at all.

I don't the nVidia hardware will solve anything.

Plus, we all remember how BC had placeholder textures for PGR2 in some of the preview shots they released, which they fixed.

Did PGR2 have 6 cars per track or 8? I thought I remembered it being 8.

Oh yes, 8. It got really congested online. I think it should be restricted on some tracks.

Or you could just restrict it when you set up the race.

Man...all this PGR2 talk makes me wish I had my Xbox with me right now!

Well I think these shots look insanely good. My mouth is watering at the thought of what Namco could do if they are bringing Ridge out on the same hardware.
