32 bit franchises that are dead

I was thinking about this recently, a number of decent games released on PSone never really saw sequels released this pat generation of gaming.

Colony Wars was a decent space shooter hampered mostly by the hardware and yet there never was a PS2 or Xbox or any version released.

Jet moto was a seemingly succesful franchise on PSone that didnt' get a sequel this gen either, even despite that the former Singletrac was mostly reunited with the formation of Incog Inc. makers of Twisted metal black among others. A couple games tried to be jet moto in its place but none recaptured the feeling. Expecially Kinetica that game was a mess.

Then we have the near launch title Warhawk that never saw a single sequel or remake or anything even though it seemed alot of you out there wanted one.

Gex is another series that died but it had pretty much run its course , nowadays platformers are for all intents and purposes dead, what we have now are shooting games with platforming elements.. it just isnt' the same.

Parasite eve from square kind of got killed off thanks to the lackluster sequel but I'd still love to see a 3rd one on a next gen system.

ON that note square made a few decent games like Einhander, make another one with a 2 player mode and current gen graphics. it'd be insta awesome.

Toshinden also kind of died but that one I suppose we could do without, I mena what would it pull off that we haven't allready seen in Soul Calibur 2, MK6, DOA3, Tekken 5, VF4 etc... not a damn thing that's what.

Tsk tsk. Only if you limit yourself to a platform instead of "being a true gamer and embracing the games, not the systems."

Cough cough cough...

... and that's not even considering the handhelds!

Uh...Panzer Dragoon *had* a Next Gen iteration. :P

Though, the future of the series past that is certainly doubtful.

Panzer Dragoon returned to its roots, although i'd love to see a sequel to Saga. The ending was left ridiculously open and at the time i figured a sequel would eventually be announced for Katana/Dural/SNS.

Silhouette Mirage comes initially comes to mind. i don't know that the game really needed a sequel, because it was a great game in it's own right that did what it needed to do, and any attempt would be picked apart by hardcore fans, like the somewhat surprising sequel Viewtiful Joe 2. i probably should've saved those comments for NiGHTS though, which is another candidate.

Burning Rangers is another game i'd like to see a sequel for. It's one of the few games i could only play for an hour or two at a time, because it was so intense. Looking back at it, it could've been the fact that the game was really pushing the hardware, and i was near having a seizure from the warping, poly breakup, and other technical flaws, but it was a really fun game with a good concept and execution.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind seeing a new Colony Wars for the PS3, and a new Jet Moto for the PSP.

And we damn well better be getting an amazing new fucking Warhawk for PS3.

Gex had a good premise, have each level as a parody of a certain movie / TV show, plus the ability to defy gravity with Gecko-Powers, but the game itself is a piece of shit. Needed better voices too. The original Gex had some funny lines, but Gex 2 / 3 was terrible.

Wasn't the PS1 a 64 bit system?

At any rate, Tobal's another dead franchise from an era past. There's also Bust A Groove, Alundra, and Bushido Blade.

Why haven't we had a sequel yet? This is the game that would benefit from better tech above all others. Come on Sega!

When this generation started he said he wouldn't even consider a sequel to BR this gen because he doesn't think that the fire effects would be up to what he wants.

Isn't there a new Warhawk coming to Playstation 2. I read on these forums while lurking, Axsider & Massiveattack (iirc) were dropping hints about a new Warhawk, maybe it was for Playstation 3, but its good news anyway, if true. Do you think the cheesy video cutscenes will still be present? Damn, some of those made you cringe. But I guess they were one of the games' many charms. :D

Some would argue that it added to the greatness of the game - it kept you guessing even after you finished it, making you want more

I missed that, but it didn't stop him making it for SATURN. Ah well, I think we all know what Naka is like ;)

I miss Final Fantasy series, X2 sucked horribly and should have never been made and if FFXII ends up sucking like X2 then it's all over for the franchise IMO.

I'm seeing people list a lot of games that are not franchises, like Burning Rangers, which was a shitty fucking shit ass shit of a game anyways.

Rally Cross!

bah - who cares about rally cross? we have WRC, ColinMcRae and Richard Burns Rally now, all games are better. americans should not made rally games - its like germans play baseball - it doesnt fit.

Rally Cross waas a ery entertaining, very arcadey title with a cool physics model and great track design. I would love to see a good sequel (which Rally Cross 2 ws not). If it would make the Europeans feel better, we could take "rally" out of the name. :)

Not really a franchise, but Yuke's Evil Zone (Eretzvaju) could have needed a this-gen sequel. The original was quite good though it had lots of clipping errors (a common problem in Yuke's games, though I haven't played Rumble Roses yet).

Other than that I'd wish for sequels to:
Toshinden: 1-3 were fun, 4 was one of the worst games on the original Playstation; come to think of it, the series probably would have gone the same way as Bloody Roar, I think it's better to let it RIP

Parasite Eve: What is it, SE? Giving no-sellers like Musashi a sequel but not PE? Mad

Tobal: Though, after the post-Ehrgeiz era Dream Factory has become Crap Factory.

Bushido Blade: Low sales killed this off, eh? Still, no reason to take revenge on us all with the crap that was Kengo.

Pandemonium: Seems like I'm not the only one who is disappointed by Crystal Dynamics this gen...

I remember NextGen magazine totally splooging all over this game before its release. Wasn't it even on the cover of the magazine? I think they finally admitted they were wrong on all levels and gave the game one star. I think.

All the media were tripping... until they all realised it was craptacular and the game received bad reviews. (that was fair mind you, the game IS craptacular)

Mega Man Legends, god damnit. Capcom has a hard-on for milking Mega Man, why the hell won't they milk their best MM spin-off yet?

Yeah I have to admit that even I , who asked for franchises listed games that didn't have sequels and thus werent' franchises.

I forgot about megaman legends, the best megaman series to date and the only one not to get milked at all. For shame capcom, they still managed to put out a bad spinoff though, Tronne bonne was a terrible game that shouldn't have been made.

No...that would be the ZERO series

We seriously need a PSP Tomba! game...hundreds of events are a fucking neccessity and to bring back the faster play mechanics of the original

By golly, America loves Tomba
