What is the biggest gaming franchise that is now a dead franchise?

I think OP should add the definition of what "dead" is for clarity…just because you don't like the direction a franchise has gone doesn't make it "dead". Might be dead to YOU, but if games are still being made then it's far from dead. I know most of those posts are just clown troll efforts, but some posts do have valid context with it, so for those folks, some clarity would be nice. Unless of course, that is what you meant OP? 😂

Need for Speed
Metal Gear Solid for obvious reasons
Guitar Hero
Nintendo "Sports" franchise, from one of the biggest Games, to hardly being mentioned in future iterations.
Halo isn't Dead yet, Uncharted just stopped releasing Games, the last main one was the best selling of the franchise by a Huge margin

TwinBee was big for its time, got a bunch of games & spinoffs. It had two anime shorts, a three episode OAV series, a popular radio drama running for 3 seasons (96 episodes), manga & merch. Maybe one of the first attempts at a transmedia IP, but it was too early and Japan focused at a time when Japanimation's was still far away from taking off seriuosly in the west.

Halo

It is even worse than dead, now we have a bunch of idiots not only using the corpse of Halo to make money and political stands but also "fans" that are so retarded or stupid that make you question if they are actually being payed by 343:

- they defended 343 when they wanted to add micro transactions to the MCC
- people have argue with me telling me that Halo was always nitche and this small-medium popular game compared to Call Of Duty
- they will praise meh decisions and positively react anything 343/Halo studios do (yeah, UE5 will solve all isses)

A dead franchise can come back and recover its glory. Halo is so broken it can't even make a comeback

Halo might not be dead-dead in the way that Duke Nukem or Deus Ex are, but NO game has had a higher fall from grace.

None

If you went back in time to someone in 2007 around the launch of Halo 3 and told them in 10 years the franchise will be almost irrelevant, nobody would believe you.

Im Out GIF by Halo

That's being utterly stupid and silly, but I guess trolls must have their fun day.
Tony Hawks had a far bigger fall from grace, never mind the posterboy for PS3 Killzone and where Killzone 4 was so bad on the PS4 it killed the series dead, never mind what Konami done with Pro Evo Soccer

Final fantasy.
I wish. There will still be new FF games and they will still be extremely disappointing.

I am not sure anything is dead as publishers tend to remake/remaster old games. That said, Metal Gear is my biggest dead franchise regardless of whether or not remakesters are coming.

You kind of proved my point, FF hasn't been good since 7… shit that was just a juggernaut in school for me.
Thats a new FF game. if I had posted FF16 on Friday it wouldn't have changed the point. FF16 would still be doing better than Halo Infinite.

FF is getting games more often and more people are playing it than Halo infinite which they literally give out for free. A multiplayer GaaS game. If you were to include FF's online game FF14 then halo doesn't have a chance in hell. So when you say something silly like:

people saying Halo lol.. aren't playing infinite

That's the point, that's why Halo is "more dead". FF is not.

I'm going to be honest with you and it's gonna hurt.

Killzone always sucked. Guerilla Games has always sucked.

Do we actually know this? I'm just curious since I haven't seen any numbers confirmed anywhere.
Yeah my bad it was 20M users played that includes Gamepass and F2P players. Just a couple websites stating amount sold.

They stopped updating sales after the milestone in 2021 in Feb at 81M total for the franchise.

In any case, they're still pulling in numbers and supposedly working on a Halo CE remake. And obviously are working on another one so its clearly not dead. Same rhetoric with people bringing up Final Fantasy.

Yes well as a business it is not dead. As a heart of gaming, it died.
In my humblest of opinions.

OK. No, Halo is not dead. Just not nearly as big and important as it once was. Which is the result of mismanagement from Microsoft.

This has turned into a franchise whining thread.

Just because you don't like a game doesnt mean the entire franchise is dead - the world doesnt revolve around you.

Some lols that people think qualify as dead so far:

Final Fantasy (lol)
Halo
Sonic
Pokemon (lmfao)
Assassins Creed
Ratchet and Clank
Red Dead Redemption

Lol. Thanks for the laughs
