3DS December Update Thread

But how do you get them from streetpass if somebody else doesn't get it from spotpass first? Remember those pieces cannot be bought with play coins.

Seeing as all the data is already on your 3DS, it can just decide randomly every now and then to make one streetpass transaction the one that unlocks a new piece. It can 'fake' that the other person had it.

Not saying that is what it will do, just that that is totally possible.

I think you get them from Streetpass rather than Spotpass.
How? If you have to get it from someone else via StreetPass, then how do they get it?! And no, the pink areas aren't different for everyone. The update talked about SpotPass content, and I believe it specifically mentions Puzzle Swap, so the pink pieces must be from SpotPass.

I'm sure the system told me you can only get the pink pieces from spotpass, so you can't buy them using the coins. I'm guessing if one guy gets it via spotpass, you can take it off him using streetpass. That makes a lot of sense.

Which leads to my next question, what is spotpass?

Is it just randomly connecting to other routers when you're walking about? So I can spotpass all my neighbours routers if they have it unsecured or something?

No, your 3DS has to be connected to the wireless signal for SpotPass to work, unless it's a Nintendo Zone (Best Buy, McDonald's, etc.). So you can get SpotPass content at home if your 3DS is connected to your Wi-Fi, or you can get it if you walk within range of a Nintendo Zone, but not if you walk within range of a normal Wi-Fi network that your 3DS isn't connected to.

I've got a question on Find Mii II:
There is a ghost with a shield with the front half black and half white, how I broke it?

I'm guessing Nintendo will make the pink pieces be exclusive content from Best Buy (or one of the other partners) instead of just sending them to people at home. I also see them giving them away during events and tours.

You two Miis, one with a white shirt and one with a black shirt, and then you have to make them team up and attack the shield.

Ah I see, now I need to find out where the Nintendo Zones are for UK/EU

Where do I find the map of where the Miis are from?

It's supposedly right there with the other icons (music player, puzzle slideshow etc), but it seems that Miis from certain countries don't appear there and as a result some people don't get to use the map feature. Very Nintendo-like to forget the existence of some areas.

Actually, the map seems to disappear for some reason... I had it when I first updated, but now when I go back and try to find it it's just not there. Odd... Dunno what triggers it to pop back up again.

I'm trying to figure out how the new StreetPass panels that you start out with work... The old ones that you started out with were based on the region you live in. For example, if your region is set to United States > Arizona, you'll start with the Kirby's Dream Land panel. It would appear that it's the same case for the new panels, as every single person I know with a 3DS in my area started with the Rhythm Heaven Fever panel...except me. I started with The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D. Maybe it's mostly set, but there can be random exceptions? I have no clue.

What panel did all of you start with, and what is your region set to? I wonder if we can find some consistency here.

Fukuoka, Japan and Donkey Kong Country Returns. I really want to know how I can get the purple pieces through Spotpass, it's kind of irritating me, haha.

Well, I randomly got one of the purple pieces as my starting piece when I first updated my 3DS's firmware. I hope that isn't the only way though...

Actually I think that makes sense, some people get it from Spotpass and then you Streetpass them and get it for yourself.

I had a Mii at my gates, so he brought me a piece of the Pilotwings puzzle. I haven't received a "starting" piece yet.

Also, I did system transfer last night. It took a while, but seems to have worked perfectly. I wasn't sure if it was going to transfer any playcoins that I had, so I spent them all on FindMii II. I had one coin when I did the transfer, which did in fact transfer. (Just in case anyone else is wondering.)

So... anyone looking for an Aqua 3DS? heh.

Have anyone confirmed whether or not DSiWare save data transfers...? I would assume so, since everything else does, but it didn't transfer over from DSi to 3DS, so you never know...

EDIT: Oh, and do all of your Notifications and Face Raiders data carry over as well? I haven't seen either of those confirmed yet, though I assume they transfer as well.

I'm not sure. I'm pretty sure the DSi uses a different format for stuff

Loving the new features...both my brother and I started with a Donkey Kong Returns panel. (Region: United States, California). Have most of the panels needed, except those pink panels...=/

I thought there were theories being tossed around as to why DSiWare transferred 3DS-3DS but not DSi-3DS earlier in this thread.

Losing most of my DSiWare save data turned out to be not such a big deal after all, though.

Could I join Club Nintendo, plug in all the codes from my retail games and hardware systems, and still get the points?

Also, will it give me points for the digital distribution games I've already bought like virtual console and ambassador games?

Thanks!

One more question: In North America, how far back do games have codes in them? I know the program wasn't started until 2008 here but could I still get points on, say, Gamecube games or early DS games?

NINTENDO ZONE REPORT!

I went to best buy on lunch. Nintendo Zone is a cool idea that could work, but as of right now, there is NOTHING compelling about it, and no reason to go out of your way to check it out. Also, ever since I connected the icon for Nintendo Zone has a pulsing blue aura around it on my 3DS menu. Also, I didn't get any spotpass/findmii/anything from connecting.

GOOD:

I had my 3DS open when I walked in, and a window popped up telling me I was in a NINTENDO ZONE and it asked me if I wanted to open the app.

Speed - Everything was nice and fast

$5 off!!! - There was an offer for $5 off MK7 or Mario Land 3D that you just had to click on to activate or whatever.

BAD:

No Demos. It had info on games and movies and screengrabs from the games, much like the eShop.

No Content - Besides that, there was not much in there, or stuff to do. There was Pokemon Trivia or something, I didn't check that out.

I don't know how far back it was that they added My Nintendo codes, but I know they were in late Gamecube games at least. Most first-party DS games should have codes that give you points, at least.

Doesn't sound like it change much from before the update then, though it giving coupons now is nice.

All DS first party games should give you points, no gamecube games will though.

So far I've gotten the following hats in Find Mii 2:

- Yoshi
- Epona
- Airwing
- Donkey Kong
- Floral
- Pirate

Also, the StreetPass map appears depending entirely on your location. If I set my 3DS to USA, it's there, but if I set it up to Chile, it's gone.

Holy crap there are a lot of new hats added.

Wonder if they added any Pokemon ones, also the new Find Mii is a lot better now that you can combo attack and hire max level guys.

I had the exact opposite experience. Took way too long to load, and then loaded again, and then made me wait some more. I saw the coupon, loled at how bad it was, and closed my DS, assuming all the downloading meant when I opened it at home I could check out the content.

Nope. Even though it said "saving to SD" as soon as you leave the "zone" the content is gone.

IIRC, it's $5 off BOTH games. So it's pretty much totally pointless, particularly considering there are much better deals going on for people not carrying a 3DS around in a store.
So you have to buy both? That's stupid.
I went to mcdonalds to just save a page thinking it means it will download all the stuff on Nintendo zone so I can use the stuff on it at home but it'w just a screen grab :|

Nintendo Zone updated today? There's now a Pokemon Rumble Blast and Mario 3D Land Trivia game...

Also, the way "Videos" are organized is vastly superior than the eShop one.

So with Nintendo Zone, you have to take out your 3ds in the store, open it, and launch the app?

You can't just leave it in your pocket and check what you got at home?

It probably downloads data directly from the LAN in the hotspot, not from the internet.

FWIW, the Nintendo Zone I hit up at Best Buy informed me I could browse the Internet.

I wasn't going to, because really who wants to stand in the video game aisle browsing the web, but they do seem to be Internet-connected.

I would expect that they had some sort of identifier but pulled data from some centrally-hosted place. The coupon I "saved" (I assume bookmarked) could be re-retrieved at home.

I believe it has the capability to push data to you, yes, even when it is just asleep in your pocket. SpotPass does not require you to open your 3DS to get data, but similarly Nintendo Zone doesn't force-push all the possible data from their demo stations onto your system.

I imagine in future when there are games with new stages/items etc distributed, then they will turn up via spot pass at specific locations like Best Buy, rather than just at any old router.
