3DS Streetpass Experiences

It's raining, so not sure how much traffic the Union Square event will get.

Got two hits walking around Best Buy, zero in Gamestop, though. :/

finally got a streetpass hit from my store on a busy day, but only got the streetpass for the Sound software, not even Mii Plaza... and i still dont understand the Sound too

There is a group of 75ish 3DS-wielding dudes at NYC Union Square. Unfortunately, I only got 5 Street pass hits. Granted, I only walked past them on my way to the subway, but still, it's strange that it only registered 5. The whole Street Pass tech seems very finicky... I should have stopped for a few minutes, but my wife was in a hurry in the rain.

Took mine out today to Record Store Day, where I got one hit, and to the Michigan Pinball Expo, where I got 6 in an hour or so. Hadn't had any prior to today.

Streetpass has worked fine for me. There could be a couple of issues in your instance.

1. if those are demo units some or all might not be configured to allow streetpass because it has to be configured manually, its not activated out of the box, which I think was a mistake on Nintendo's part.

2. Those 3ds's could have been running games at the time and some/most games don't streetpass while software is active.

DS games - no (so, no streetpass while plaing White).
3DS games - yes

Well, if Nintendo absolutely wanted to demonstrate their lack of forethought, they totally did.

I don't want to have to exit out of Pokémon every time I want to get ready for StreetPass. I pray that Nintendo will somehow release an update that will let players go back and forth from the 3DS menu to DS games.

Meh.

All 3DS capabilities are not present in DS mode (can't change brightness etc.) - probably has something to do with piracy or the way the emulation works or both.

Seven hits today (most in one day so far). And as a result, I completed my 1st puzzle panel: Mario & Bowser

Also, one of the people I tagged also counted as a tag for Nintendogs so that was a nice little bonus (1st tag for any game so far)

Well, I guess it's better than how they handled GBA multi-player on the DS.

I've only had my 3DS for a couple days and I haven't had the chance to get any StreePass hits, but I've been using all my Play Coins each day to hire dogs for Find Mii and I just love the charm it has. I really wish I could play it more often.

TBH it's probably the same exact way they handled it, we just got lucky this time because the 3DS already has the hardware needed for DS multiplayer, DS on the other hand didn't have a GBA link port. Basically when you boot a DS game the 3DS thinks it's a DS until you push the home button. Same thing DS did with GBA except this time you don't have to power off to get back to the firmware.

What do you get from streetpass in Nintendogs? I haven't gotten any for that title yet, only a bunch of SSF4 hits.

Not at all - they just made GBA games single player only on GBA. :v
Oh.

You can apparently change dates and give your 3DS a shake to rack up coins. Never tried this but if you are desperate.

If you get a Nintendogs tag, just go to the journal and you'll see a gift icon. Touch it and a dog's face will be revealed. You'll get a present from the person you tagged (either a treat/food or accessory item) along with an accompanying photo w/message (if the other person included those things) The dog's face that shown in the journal might be depend on which dog is shown in the photo, but I'm not sure (might just be based on which dog was owned first)

Also, since you tagged another Nintendog owner, you can meet that same person in the park and have your dog and their dog interact with each other. If the person you tagged owns more than one dog, you can decide which dog you want to interact with in the park. Person I tagged today owns two dogs, so I only interacted with one dog at the park, before repeating the same stuff with the other dog.

Thanks, wow that's cool. I wish more people owned Nintendogs! I'd prefer a tag in that game than in SSF4.

I love picturing your avatar sitting around, playing 3DS with cute puppies.

lolwut? You can change brightness/power saving mode while playing DS games.
Also gameplay time/steps still count, but only up to 7 days. It's just the suspend/spotpass/streetpass that doesn't work.

Really? My bad then. I remembered I wanted to do just that but it wouldn't work.

Yup! Press home. Then press start+up/down to change brightness. left/right toggles power saver =)

Got my first hit today...kinda cool since I live in the middle of nowhere in Germany. The dude was from washington state which makes sense since we have a lot of folks that recently came from Fort Lewis. Wish I still lived in San Francisco, then I'd get many hits every day ;-(

I gotten 3 in total, 2 from the same guy. Though I tried to streetpass with a friend and it never picked it up and we left them beside eachother for a good minute.

I finally got my first Streetpass from someone at a Gamestop. I decided to just stick the 3ds in my pocket instead of in my Hori case and I got a hit. Maybe the WiFi can't go through the case or something.

yay finally got my first one! Sold Pilotwings, and the dude came by to pick it up. And we street passed. Got a puzzle piece, gonna check Find mii tomorrow with all my cats and won my street fighter duel 3-2!

It was great :P

Still just one tag, after weeks of carrying this thing around everywhere. :|

It's so annoying to pass by hundreds of people every day and not see that green light when I get home. Why don't people in Boston play handhelds, gosh darn it?!

So have I got this right?

If I'm playing a DS game on my 3DS I won't get any streetpasses, but if I put the 3DS to sleep while playing a DS game I will get streetpasses?

So far in my holiday at NYC I have got

1St day I took it out 3 hits around rockafella centre and empire stare. 2 Of those also from UK.

Today so far I've walked an insane amount from 222ave to 2ave went through Central park. Then to WTC then subway back to 210 Ave. 1 hit... :(

I'm off to times square again later.

On a side note, yesterday I saw 2 randoms playing eachother on street fighter on the subway which was super cool...

Same as Wii/GC for that matter.

Osaka does not like 3DS?

Carried both 3DS around Universal Studios and to the Tigers v Carp game - grand total of 5 passes in 3 days. I thought i'd get a ton at Universal.

Still - two rooms to go to complete round 1 of Find Mii on US and coming on for 4 pic puzzles to get. JPN long completed, racing towards 300 Passes now, 250 or so unique hits.

Went to the Distant Worlds concert at the Sydney Opera House on the weekend. Got over forty Streetpass hits. Thank you Aussie FF enthusiasts! Quest mode cleared.

Uematsu signed my well-loved copy of FFVII and the Digicube OST. :)

I do but i haven't taken my 3DS out of my house yet lol or set up street pass :P

I did see some random person playing a 3DS on the red line the other day, i could have had a street pass experience :(

Final day of the pinball expo was today and I managed to only get 5 hits (two of them re-encounters)

I'm gonna take my 3DS with me to a Gamestop tomorrow night for the Mortal Kombat midnight launch to try to get more tags. If I'm lucky enough to be one of the first ones to pick a copy up, I'll try to rush my way to other Gamestops holding a midnight launch nearby for even more possible tags

You are one lucky fellow. I hope to one day get that many hits

Finally got my first real one, got it as I was leaving college, gave me a pikmin piece, helped me in the quest and I beat him in SF.

Hopefully I ran into him again soon! So much fun
