3DS XL First Impressions/Previews

In-store poster today.
Yeah that sucks for us. But considering in AUS 3DS now has a $100 trade-in value, normally, this trade-in deal makes it worth an extra $20. Can't really complain too much.

Well, I'm definitely addicted to the 3DS, probably more than any handheld before. I shipped it in for repair and it's absence has been pretty glaring. I'm just scratching my arms staring at walls... Every time I go somewhere I reach for it - gotta get those street passes...
I don't know if I can trade it in for the XL, may have to just have two.

That was my predicament last holiday - I sent it for repair during December (fearing I'd miss MK7 and such for XMas) - Nintendo had it back within 12 days (shipping to and from incl.), arriving in my arms the Thursday right before that holiday weekend.
I love Nintendo ^_^
3DS is already my all time favorite handheld. I've bought 24 retail games so far (had system since Aug '11), I need a new games case as my Hori 24 one is now full. I was never a handheld gamer, though, before 3DS. I guess maybe it's the 3D?...a dedicated 3D system with 3D games is just so neat! "Back to the future" neat!
If great games continue and it receives great installments of Metroid, Zelda, FZero and others, it will be my all time favorite system. Cannot wait for the XL next weekend (not this coming weekend, but the one after)
No clue, but it's an insane policy for handhelds. Handhelds should always be region free. Always. Just by their nature they should be. Hey, have a NA 3ds and travel to europe and decide you want a new game while you're over there? Too bad.
I understand consoles and region locking, but for a handheld, it simply makes no sense.

I'd really like to buy a 3DS XL, but I'm still a bit worried about screen scratches (I never had that problem on regular 3DS) and also upscaling.
But maaan, that screen is so appealing.

The CPP is slightly wider than the XL, if that's what you wanted to know.
If you never managed to scratch your 3DS screen, then I really doubt you'd be able to scratch this screen.

Not to mention the incredible and huge DS library. DS was awesome, and helps springboard the 3DS into super saiyan levels of awesome.

24 3DS games? I've owned a 3DS since launch, and I only have 6 retail games. With my DS games I manage to get up to 24 games, but I really can't see 24 3DS games worth owning.

I feel the same way, I've had most of the 3DS retail releases and I can barely think of 5 that are worth keeping.

That's 17 games, and of all of them I'd only say Mercenaries 3D is kind of mediocre compared to what it could have been. Lots of people will gripe about Pilotwings, but it's a great game if you actually play it to get better, it was just overpriced. And Shinobi is like a sleeper that everybody ignored because it looked bad in screen shots, while in fact being a great hardcore action game.
On top of that, I have 47 DS games here, from a collection that was whittled down to only the best.

Edit: It seems that I'm wrong here.
It appears to vary from system to system. I think it uses a warmer screen, but the degree of the color change isn't consistent across all systems.
Edit: I found some pictures in the thread to compare.
The dpad is a bit bigger and the slide pad is a bit smaller.
If the variance is big though, wouldnt some systems of those be categorize as defective ?
I mean if someone can get a proper one with real white and someone gets one with yellow, would feel like getting cheated, in a big way

white is all relative, your eyes will adjust. if you go from a tv to a monitor, or an ipad to a tv, or a different screen to a different screen, it takes a few minutes to adjust to the new color temperature.
when i went from DSi to DSi XL, i thought the XL was yellowish as well because i played them back to back, did comparisions, etc. now i can't even tell and the whites looks great. it's really not a big deal imo just your eyes playing tricks on you, like when your eyes adjust to see in the dark, etc. its just really noticable in pics.

I'm not entirely sure if it's hardware inconsistency or a change in the settings, picture quality, or lighting, but a perceived change across systems is worth noting.

Does the XL have the same scratching problem the original 3DS had?
I am not sure i would adjust to something like the above, especialyl when the upper screen white is so different to the lower one
Sure without a reference a yellowish white will be less noticable, but will still not be a true white and you get to see different colors in the games

The menu on the XL is supposed to be orange there, not white.

Did anyone play ace combat assault legacy on the XL? Any impressions would be welcome.
Yeah, but only like half a milimeter or so, it has better shape and grip though.

what do i learn from this purchase (and my HDMI cables)? Amazon Basic stuff is prety much a perfect "good shit for a good price" ratio.

it's a pretty solid made hard case
stitching and all look pretty good so far
there is even a extra flap for 3 games
and the handhels sits snuggly in it's play.... OH SHIT! STREETPASS!

it has the official seal shit and doesn't cost to much. i personally woulddn't recommend it for the smaller handhelds. but XLs fit perfectly in it.

I disagree. It was a great game for getting to grips with the 3DS. Remains one of my favourite games released so far.
Stupidly intense levels of 3D in there too, if you can handle it at 100%, you will have no problems with other software.

Yeah, i was holding out for the hori hard case. Till i saw that it. Was due for the end of september. So i bought this for cheap ten bucks and i couldn't be more happy.
