Strange, at first i thought i had REALLY yellow warm screens, but now that i put the screen protectors on (Hori) they look VERY white(cool) again... could that be some kinda special anti glare coating or whatever?

Also noticed than while IN the settings menu, the background gets super yellow almost orange, is that normal or do you guys get a totally white color there?

The settings background is supposed to be orange.

That's literally taking everything out of the shell, and rebuilding the unit inside a new shell.

I'm not looking for full housing shells, just color shells to replace the blue of my (future) system with silver or black. Sorta like GB Micro faceplates, but not an official feature of the system.

Many people have stated that the shells are easy to clip off, but there's no photographic evidence of it yet... :/

People are assuming they come off easily because some reviewers said theirs were literally falling off in their hands without them even trying to remove it. Hopefully if they are removable, they're also able to be snapped back into place securely.

Considering a purchase of a 3DS XL, but really only interested in the White version released in Japan. Any way to make that behave as a US 3DS (connect to US eShop, play US-released games) or is there no workaround for the region lock?

Buy a white JP one and another US one, and switch the face/backplates!

OK, that's a bit expensive, but it's really the only option at the moment. You could sell the JP one afterwards, I guess.

I... may actually do this. Wouldn't mind having a JP system for exclusives, too. Guess I'll wait and see how easy that process actually is!

And bigger I guess.
Which is a lot nicer :)

Games like Zelda and Pullblox, basically 3D games benefit the best IMO. I've seriously felt like I was holding a portable gamecube at times, it gave me good vibes! Can't wait for Paper Mario

Virtual console probably suffers the most on the other hand...

Called my local Gamestop and they said they'll be giving $100 for the 3DS towards an XL. He said the deal ends this weekend.

I'll be heading over there Friday or Saturday.

I stopped playing Theathythm last month (on purpose) so I could enjoy the rest of the game on the XL. I may even start a new file just cause. Game is too much fun.

From the best buy sale, I purchased DQIX and DQM: Joker 2 (which is on it's way). KH3D is still wrapped and waiting. NSMB2 will be bought day 1 as well.

Not to mention I have Etrian Odyssey 1-3 waiting to be played.

Ahhhh....just 4 more days...

Can you elaborate on that? I was planning on transferring all my Virtual Console games from my OG 3DS to the XL but your statement is making me doubt....
I did it as well. Playing 1:1 is fine except for the huge black space you see wasted around the game (playing Zelda DX with the GBC around it is even worse ugh) so you feel like playing it stretched but of course that's just blurry and inaccurate. If you don't mind that you're fine and quite frankly you get used to it when you're into the game but still you know, the 3DS (doubly so with the XL) feels like a console where Virtual Console (and DS backwards compatibility for that matter) just doesn't belong. The option of having it is great of course, but it feels out of place

I don't agree with this at all. Playing VC games in 1:1 mode is awesome.

Really want to see what Netflix looks like on this. Sucks its not available in Europe. How was it on the original 3DS? Should help playing them back on a bigger screen.

Has anyone been to a store with a demo unit or heard when demo units will be put on display? I don't want to have to wait until Sunday.

Thanks, I guess I'll have to try it out and see for myself. I wonder if there's a free VC game currently available that I could test before taking the plunge and transferring everything...

I guess it's personal, it's not like I'm going "man fuck this shit" but it's annoying, especially if I'm coming down right after playing a 3DS full screen game

Is there a way to remove the GBC border around games like Zelda DX when playing in 1:1?

But do you need to play 1:1 at all? I mean I've played mario land 2 in og 3ds and just let it fill the screen, as long as it keeps its ratio (not stretched horizontal). Can't have a big screen and just use a small part of it, feels wrong

I wouldnt mind having the white outer shell with the black inner shell. I definitely do not want the white inside. That's awful.

1:1 VC games look perfect now, get out of here with the stretching.

I'm used to the stretching now, so I'm going to stick with that. I'm trading visual fidelity for WOW THATS HUGE

How does the deal end this weekend if the system isn't even available for sale?

I really hope my local Gamestop is doing this. 100 dollars + 60 dollar giftcard = YESSSSSSSSS.

Just cancelled my Gamestop preorder. I'll pick it up at Target/Walmart that way I can easily exchange if I have any issues (My DSi had a dead pixel and Gamestop refused to do the exchange, I had to go through Nintendo).

So for those of you who are current 3DS owners who upgraded to the XL, are you generally happy that you did? Is there anything that has made you regret your XL purchase or want to go back to your OG 3DS? I'm aware of the XL's advantages and issues compared to the OG 3DS, I'm just curious as to whether or not anything has made you regret your XL purchase.

I was sold the moment I played an XL at Comic-Con and have mine pre-ordered, but I can't decide if I should sell my 3DS on Craigslist to recoup some of the cost (the GameStop trade-in deal is nice, but I don't trust them to let me do my system transfer in-store and just hate the company otherwise) or keep it around, just in case.

How are the Hori screen protectors for the XL? Would you recommend them? I've got a set pre-ordered on Amazon that should hopefully be delivered to me by Tuesday. I'll have to hold off on playing Theatrhythm on my XL at least until then...

Anyone know if the broken street date rumors from Toys r Us & Gamestop are true?
Probably isolated incidents. The stores near me aren't selling it yet. Wal-Mart guy said Friday, though he's probably just clueless. Best Buy said Sunday. Toys "R" Us had someone looking in the back for the system when I asked, but another employee who was working in the back told them Sunday. So no luck getting it early here.

Has anyone been to a store with a demo unit or heard when demo units will be put on display? I don't want to have to wait until Sunday.
I haven't found any 3DS XL demo units in any stores here, though I haven't checked GameStop. But Wal-Mart, Best Buy, and Toys "R" Us all had the regular 3DS. My Best Buy was one of the first to get a 3DS demo station as well, and one of the first to get demos of certain games on it... so if they don't have one, I'm guessing no Best Buy does yet.

Anyone know of any good deals for the XL, other than Gamestop's? Something that would have me spend not too much more if I sold my OG 3DS to get it?

I

No regrets. Finally a handheld which looks and feels like a huge improvement over original DS, and not a half-measure sollution.

I caught wind of a(n informal) Gamestop streetpass event in my area that was supposed to have XL demo units on the 18th, but it's so close that you might as well wait anyway.

I've had mine since EU release day and I don't regret a thing upgrading, the only 'initial' negative I found was the larger pixels but after a few hours of gaming that really wasn't an issue any more, another obvious negative is not having a dock which I found very handy on the OG 3DS, other than that though nothing really, it's been one of my favourite pieces of portable Nintendo hardware, the biggest plus for me is how impressive virtual console games look in 1:1 on the bigger screens.
