Sorry, I know this got touched on before but I couldn't find it through google search.

How is the Newegg pre-order shipping? I assume when they say 3 day I will be getting my 3dsxl+nsmb2 on Wednesday (or possibly sooner), and not on release day?

Just ordered my xl. Saw an offer on amazon.co.uk for the xl + 1 game free for £169 and jumped on it. XL + mario 3d land incoming. :D
... What. I hate Amazon USA so much right now. I am sick of their no Nintendo console/handheld stocking ways. I want a free game, too! (Plus prime shipping and no tax)

169.00 GBP = 265.23 USD

You'd actually still be paying less in the US if you ordered from Newegg, especially if you caught their $10 off pre-ordered games. 3DS XL + NSMB2 for $229ish.

Oh man the colors look so off in that commercial compared to everything I've seen. Blue looks so light in that commercial. I want that blue, not the deeper blue we're getting. :(

I'm probably the only fan of the Aqua Blue 3DS on NeoGAF. D:

We almost always pay less for games so pointing that out isn't illuminating anything. You see plenty of console + free game bundles here, too, just apparently not on amazon with nintendo systems since they don't get along anymore. It's really frustrating for a consumer who primarily uses amazon and pays extra for their Prime service.

I don't disagree with you, I was holding out for them myself. But I haven't seen any bundles in the U.S.

My XL seemed to be affected by the screen damage issues, with some tiny dots over the bezel areas. These are invisible during actual use and I wanted to stop any further damage before it actually spoiled the experience (plus I'm going to a StreetPass event tomorrow) so I ordered the new Hori screen protectors, which arrived today.

Applying the top screen one was surprisingly painless - even with the filter system I found the one for the original 3DS a total pain (it covered the whole top panel with holes for the speakers, mine ended up Bubble Central). But this one was fine. It looks good, and from my very limited use so far doesn't really make the image look any different. It does possible add a tad more glare, but the XL seems to have a very effective anti-glare thing going with the top screen and I'm not sure a screen protector could ever have replicated that. Overall I'm satisfied - I was worried applying a screen protector would compromise my big screen XL experience but so far it doesn't seem to have done. Obviously it would be better if I didn't have to worry about the screens at all. Haven't tried the touchscreen one yet, interested to see if that affects sensitivity. I might only apply that while I do New Art Academy.

Anyhoo, if you're in America and you're frightened of Neo Screen Damage, perhaps wait for the screen protectors, rather neat without feeling like a horrible compromise.

I'm just going to use a microfiber cloth like I do with the current 3DS. I'm too much of a bumbling idiot to apply screen protectors without completely fucking it all up.

They're in some super intense outdoor lighting with a combination of indoor lighting on the set, I guarantee you that your device will not look like that. Plus, not only that, but once the scenes have been shot, filters and effects are applied which can distort the blue and red hues from what they would normally look like. I don't have a 3DS XL, but common sense would tell me to expect to see darker, saturated hues from where I will be playing it: home. There are tons of videos and pics out there and they all have different lighting, it's the same for any device, just go with the one that has the most appeal to you across all of these lighting conditions.

Summary: Are you Penelope Cruz or her less successful sister? No...? Then your 3DS won't be as pale. :)

Can't believe this is still happening. But I have to ask - why not take it back? That's a huge defect. I don't know of any store that wouldn't accept it as a return, and if there is one just call Nintendo and they'll swap it out for a new one.

Saw them displayed in my local TRU (Sacramento Area). I asked the guy if I could get one and he happily took it out of the cabinet and started to ring it up, until a street date restriction stopped the transaction. Crap.

Eurgh, the annoyance with my 3DS XL is that the screen was pretty much perfect when I first bought it so I decided to transfer my old 3DS data to it. The scratches appeared only a few days after transfer and now there seem to be a few more as time passes and the machine is used more often.

Store refund is out of the question as I don't want to lose my data / remaining transfers (what a shitty system!!) but I'd be happy to send it into Nintendo next year sometime to get it repaired under warranty as they give you an extra years warranty if they have to make any repairs for your system.

Lovely system but a shame about the scratches (think I might have said the same about OG 3DS).

Did a system transfer, all my stuff's on it so I can't send it back. Don't know what's going on with 3DS XL repairs yet. Didn't Nintendo refuse to repair damaged 3DS screens under warranty at first? Not convinced a different unit would be any better. Anyway, the marks are totally invisible under the screen protector.

Exactly.

Retail replacement is instant, while Nintendo repair turnaround is only about 2 weeks tops. I would gladly do either of the above to ensure a pristine device. If it doesn't bother or grate on you enough to swap out the device, why share this "defect" with us?

They seem like small chips from manufacture, moreso than something user/device caused....I could be wrong, but that's what they look like to me.

If you can do another system swap, you can perform a system transfer after the 7 days. Inform the retail channel of your issue and see if they will oblige a system transfer, for your case.

Nintendo does not refuse damaged screen repair. It's not like you dropped it and broked the LCD. I've go e through Nintendo repair for 3DS and they were wonderful. Call them and set it up, do not use the online repair. You'll get farther and better, faster + correct service by taking the time to actually speak to a rep.

Doh! I reside in the Sacramento area, so we are like neighbors ^_^
Sacto-GAF represent! :)

I want my XL too!

If you're a regular and frequent shopper of a GameStop, why won't they break the date the day before, in instances? Would anyone actually know, like Nintendo or their corporate? I've never understood why it's so strict...other than the fine. But doesn't someone have to report for the fine?

I attempted to apply the touchscreen protector but there was some crap right on one of the edges, causing bubbles. Had to raise touchscreen to clear it with sellotape and then...

Well to cut a long story short after a load of fannying about I ended up with a touch screen protector contaminated with dust and hairs and gave up. I did shove on it again for a sec to see what it was like, I think it would have reduced sensitivity a little bit so maybe I'm better without it. I wasn't really bothered but I thought maybe I could use it for heavy use stuff like Art Academy then ditch it.

I only posted to share my experience of using the new 3DS XL screen protectors, would you prefer if I hadn't have bothered?

If the chips bother you less than a screen protector bubble, why mention the chips?

I'd be more inclined to do what I must to ensure a mint device. The chips are permanent - a screen protector is removable. If the damage on screen isn't of bother....I dunno.

*lightbulb*

Nintendo offers advance replacement. ^_^

They send you a new unit, you send the old one back in the box they send. You have so many days, etc. you could do this, perform a system transfer at home and send them the faulty system, as you would.

Yes, this is definitely the downside to Nintendo's continued reliance on an archaic purchase-system. I'd call Nintendo and request a free fix. What they'll do is send you a box to ship it to them for free, fix it, transfer your stuff, and send it back to you. Most likely that just means they'll give you a refurb, but it's still better than having a 3DS with screen scratching.

Perhaps he thinks it's important to inform people buying an XL that this issue still exists, and they should be careful/wary.

But this soon into a device launch, they'll probably be sending back new units...not enough of a fault batch to have refurbished...

I actually had a peculiar problem with my launch 3DS where the A button's contact (presumably) wore down. The result of this was that the actuation point of the button required extra pressure beyond the "click". In simpler terms, light button presses wouldn't always register, which killed me a number of times in SM3DL.

This didn't start until months later, but still within the warranty period. I sent it in to Nintendo, and they sent me a package with a note to the effect of, "We're not sure what you're talking about, but here's a new 3DS anyway."

Here is a stupid, random, question on playing virtual games on the 3DS(XL). I feel stupid for even asking it because I'm sure I've just overlooked it, but here goes...

When playing, say, Super Mario. Bros., is it possible to make it so Y makes you run fast and B jumps instead of B running fast and A jumps?

THIS!!!!

The button mapping makes it a pain to play right now.

I haven't sat down with an actual SNES in years, but wasn't it Y/B for SMW and not B/A? I think that is why I have such a problem with playing SMB and other virtual games on the 3DS. I'm just too used to playing them like that, or with the two buttons totally horizontal like on the NES controller and the Wii remote. It is ingrained inside of me.

I guess B-A is the way it is because that's the way it was on the NES controller. But the buttons being diagonal is an issue.

SMW:

y: run
b. jump
a: spin-jump

I agree that they should convert NES games to use y/b instead of b/a, but for some reason they prefer the naming sync...

But this soon into a device launch, they'll probably be sending back new units...not enough of a fault batch to have refurbished...

The initial refurbs are units that were deemed unsellable and thus not shipped. They're repaired and used as replacement units(unless Nintendo functions completely differently than most every other company, which I doubt. This is just smart business). That's why it's always in your best interest to get an exchange from a store rather than from the manufacturer.

When I sent my unit for repair in December, I asked about the chance of receiving a refurbished unit. Nintendo specified, they don't use refurbished units. They use remanufactured units. That is what they call them, at least - the representative didn't like refurbished as a a term, because according to them - they're not.

I asked what a remanufactured unit is, they specified them as units rebuilt and assembled from scratch, using new parts by hand, by an actual technician to Nintendo manufacture specifications.

I thought this was neat. And weird.

So all this talk of screen scratching is freaking me out, do screen protectors prevent this?

I had a screen protector on my OG 3DS that increased the thickness just enough to scratch the screen protector, even though it wouldn't have scratched the bare screen.

Went out for walk with XL for first time since it's now got a protector on it. Came back with noticeable damage to the protector, two spots in same place where the dots under the protector were. Wondering if my unit's somehow defective rather than it being a general design flaw. Seems a bit weird. Took my original 3DS months to be damaged. My XL seems to be sustaining significant damage from very light use.

I want to go to a StreetPass event on Sunday, and NSMB2 should be arriving tomorrow, but after the weekend I think I might initiate the repairs process, this seems ridiculous. Shame, since the unit I got at launch had defective speakers and took over a week to be replaced, I haven't actually had a usable XL for very long.

Man, hearing about the screen scratching is really disheartening. How is it that they went through 4 generations of the DS, never having this issue but the 3DS and 3DS XL have this apparent flaw.

Granted, I will apply screen protectors right away so that I can have peace of mind but I still can't believe this is still happening. Is it just part of the design???

*brofist*

It's the TRU on Bond Rd on 99 Laguna Exit. The guy apologized for bringing them out early too. Ended up getting NY Gunblade/LA MachineGuns for the Wii (I had forgotten it was released).

I imagine any corporate retailer with a unified inventory system will have it locked to the street date. Even if they wanted to sell it to you, they can't. I was really just trying my luck to see if someone wasn't doing their job or hoping for a glitch. Oh well, a few more days isn't a big deal and I already put a deposit down at my local GameStop.

I saw a picture that someone took of their XL unit having screen damage out of the box but I still haven't seen any new pictures of wear and tear scratches.

Has anyone posted any?

The screen size differential is the reason they are having scratch problems now. Never experienced one with my 3DS. Lots o smudging though.

You can play it with X run and A jump, which is basically the same.

No smearing, or scratching on our XL yet and it's been out and about with us a lot. First sign of smearing, the 360 feet go on it, but right now it looks okay.
