Man, I really wish that at least the silver 3DS XL would have came out in NA. It's so sleek.

And if the White XL ever comes to NA...

Some more (general) questions before I jump in the deep.

Does the 3DS allow for demo downloading? How large are demo's generally? Is there a messaging service between 3DSes, online? (Friendcodes etc) (Like sending e-mail and stuff)

Does the 3DS XL allow for WPA security-routers?

What's the online service like? Do you need to buy points cards?

If I could only buy one game, what game?

You don't need point cards, if you want to purchase a title on the eStore you can choose to add only the funds needed to make the purchase, so if you have 0 $, £ or € and a game costs 5.99, you can add 5.99. (Which is nice because it ain't like WiiWare where you always ended up with 100 points left)

There are indeed demos, not that many, but that might change with Nintendos new attitude to DD, so far Nintendo's put up NSMB2 (the entire game) on the eShop, which is kind of cool.

The rest I don't really know.

You guys didn't get the Silver? It looks even better in real life :P. Darker than I expected.

As someone who plays his 3DS at home exclusively, this is a must have I assume?

Love my 3D and love my 3DS, though I couldn't play Kid Icarus on the original due to big hands :/

Does the 3D really look that much better on it? Been on the edge for a while now and will continue to be until after I purchase a WiiU or buy the damned thing.

1. There are demos on the shop, not every game gets one but a lot of the big ones do. They may be anywhere from 20 - 100 megs in size (I think).

2. 3DS uses a friends code system for now; Nintendo Accounts are supposedly getting ported to it after Wii U launches. It does have a proper online friends list you can view by pausing a a game and games can support stuff like invites and joining friends.

3. There's a messaging app called Swapnote that is interesting and flexible, and uses Spotpass to send and download messages at all times in the background including when the system is asleep. Don't know if other direct messaging or IM options will be available when accounts come to the system.

4. E-shop uses real money values now, you can enter cash with a credit card or a pre-paid e-shop card.

5. Meaty starter games for 3DS include Mario Kart 7, Super Mario 3D Land, Kid Icarus Uprising, Resident Evil: Revelations, Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance.

3D Land is probably the safest recommendation. Kid Icarus has crazy value with a very long game, online multiplayer, and lots to do, but uses the DS control concept of mouselook with stylus, takes getting used to.

As a disappointed Vita owner i am lately looking toward the 3DS, there are some great games that i want to check out, Which system would you recommend on buying?

XL.

Recently traded in my 3DS for a 3DSxl and I'm having a blast. Screen size and grip make a difference. Plus, it's better suited for the upcoming Art Academy 3DS, which I've been waiting months for.

Off Topic:

How good are Etrian Odyssey II and Suikoden Tierkreis, guys? I saw them the other day at $15.99.

Have you played the first EO? If so, how did you like it? Suikoden Tiekreis was one of my favorite DS titles, of any genre. Presentation was top notch, and the only flaw I could detect was the horrible voice acting, but other than that...

EOII was a good, not great, dungeon crawler. You really have to like that genre, but assuming you do, it is a good value at $16.

Suikoden Tierkreis is an above average portable RPG that fails to live up to the series brand. I wouldn't go back for it unless you are just hard up on games to play.

The colours dont matter much to me since i only paid $80 for my red xl.

Color doesn't mean anything to me. It's a machine used to play games. Not a hat. The only time color is a factor for me is when the screens are bordered by white plastic. That's just bad. What makes white worse on the XL is that it accentuates the Fisher Price Laptop look of the device. Not a fan.

I thought my replacement XL was defect free, but now after a month of use the bottom shell has loosened and now makes squeaks and creaking sounds when I'm playing. Lovely build quality, Nintendo. Just lovely.

Kinda wish devs would hurry up and start getting some quality games out at retail and on the e-Shop. Other than some old DS games, my XL is now starting to gather dust. That should change Oct 1 when CrossworDS 2 comes out.

I got both, I haven't played any EO, but I believe they're quite hard/expensive to find nowadays? I'm glad I found it at $15.99.

Finally opened 1 of my 2 units (still waiting for the screen protectors).

Both screens seem to be of the same temperature. No dead pixels. No weird scratches or dots in the screen.

I've starting playing my with XL since I beat NSMB2 and noticed a ton of crosstalk. I didn't use 3D for when I played NSMB2 so I never noticed how awful the 3D is on this thing. Super small viewing angle and crosstalk where it didn't exist in the OG 3DS. Is this just due to the bigger screen or what? I'm considering retransfering over to my old 3DS because I'm really annoyed with the bad 3D, but I don't want to use the small screens, near-unusable d-pad, and waste another 3DS transfer. Ugh, this is annoying.

I am guessing you are noticing more crosstalk because the screen and its pixels are bigger, but the original 3DS did have a small viewing angle and noticeable crosstalk.
Most of the impressions have noted how much better the 3D effect feels on the XL unit, though.

And while the XL has a MUCH MUCH MUCH better d-pad, I completed NSMB2 in the original 3DS using exclusively the d-pad and never had a single problem.
Mine was a Fire Red unit, though... supposedly it has a slightly better d-pad than Cosmo Black and Aqua Blue units.

Bought me a 3DS XL for playing Resident Evil Revelations. While the game itself is really impressive, I am not really enjoying it too much (in terms of immersion).

The screen is big enough, but still I am adjusting position all the time. With objects close to the screen on the sides I still get double images, even if position is perfect.

And the same old problem I always had with the DS, I think it is an ergonomic disaster, I can't hold it at an comfortable position/distance without my hands cramping after a few minutes. Touchscreen is completely useless for me as I try to avoid it - both touching or looking at it - because both usally results in losing the sweet spot for 3D.

Really, I am fighting the hardware more than the monsters in game.

I had the opportunity to hold one of those new 3ds xl's in my hands just a few days ago. Unfortunately there was no game inside so I couldn't give it a try properly. Next time I have to remember that and bring a DS game with me. I really liked how it looked but I noticed one disturbing thing about it. When it's closed and I open it or switch between the different display positions there is always a really loud cracking noise in the surroundings of the hinges. When I first opened it I thought I broke it. I only have an original DS and there was always just a slight clicking sound but it wasn't as disturbing and loud as with the 3ds xl.
Am I just oversensitive or has anybody noticed it as well? Or maybe the displayed 3ds xl in the store was already broken?

Although I prefer the XL in almost every way, the screen still bothers me. It looks fine, but it's obviously not as crisp as the original.

I'll probably just wait till the next iteration of the 3DS.

Yeah... It's supposed to be like that. It locks the screen in the position. I suppose Nintendo heard those comments about the floppy hinge on the OG 3DS and went overboard with making it not floppy.

Think I'm going to pick one of these up. I'm trying out a friend's regular DS right now to see how I like it and if I'd use it. I've never had a (3)DS before and haven't gamed on a portable since the GBA so I'm kind of excited. Curious to see how Pokeman: Black is.

Just got one of these bad boys. Anyone know where I can find any skins/cases? Anything similar to the gamestop OOT 3D/Resident evil Revelations cases would be great

Thank you for your explanation. I really hope the hinges won't break too easily. Nevertheless I'm looking forward to buying one very very soon.

With everyone around me switching up to XLs, I can only hope some more colors will come out here (NA) relatively soon :( I really wanted to get an XL when it launched, but Nintendo loves making people wait for silly things, I guess. It really does seem like they've fixed a lot of issues that the original has; it's gonna be a tough wait!

I think they did a great job with the variety of regular 3DS colors, so I hope they carry that through to the XL as well.

The white/pink one doesn't look so bad, and I like the yellow color on the Pikachu edition that we'll never see outside of Japan (even though the giant Pikachu graphic itself is a little much... they did a better job with the yellow DSLite, imo).

Well the dreaded screen scratches from the original 3DS are starting to rear their ugly heads on the top screen of my 3DSXL..... How in the hell did Nintendo not fix this?

People are still getting their screens scratched? I haven't had that problem, and I carry it in my backpack all the way to the Uni. and back not even with the screen protectors. :S

CrossworDS Plus is on the EShop now, btw. 29.99. Seems like a weird price since the original was a 19.99 game.
Well, 3DS games do on average cost $10 more than DS games.

... Thing is most of them also have higher budgets and bigger carts. I doubt the former applies to this, and the latter MIGHT be true but probably not by a size that matters. Given the situation with iOS I think it's really dumb to go and release at $30 anyway.

Has there been any word on shell customization yet?

Maybe even a place to get good custom decals? I ordered a silver LL the day the black one got announced and now I'm salty that I can't cancel the order.

I wound up trading my XL for $177 to Amazon and just keeping my DSi XL. When the 3DS gets more of a library I may return. I didn't like how DS games looked on it office would have kept the thing.

I'm rocking DecalGirl skins on both of my XLs. I know not everyone is into the sticker-like stuff though.

Just ordered my Blue 3DS XL. I haven't followed any news/games/etc about it, since I barely played my DSi XL/PSP... But I had the chance to get one 3DS and I didn't resist.

What should be my first game? I wanna OoT so bad, but I don't have the time to play it now (college). Revelaitons is a short game? Like ~10h? 3D Land seems good to.
Tales of the Abyss is worth it?

Do I need to protect my screen? They scratch easily? Or they are more resistant?

So... when are shells gonna appear? :(

I'm so sick of the blue color... in the right light it's beautiful, but most of the time it looks like a disgusting aqua-ish color. I want a solid black. :'(

The color options here in NA are the only reason I don't have one already. Not a fan of red/blue at all, I need something more neutral. Silver, Black, White... the minute anything like that comes out I'm pouncing. Hoping we get an announcement of new colors for the holidays like Japan just got.

I'd be hitting myself for grabbing early if they brought it out and I didn't like blue anyway. But I wouldn't be surprised if we either never saw it or it only came as a black friday offer.

EDIT: Well, assuming I didn't overwrite Mario Kart 7 when transferring or anything. If I did, well, good thing I already upgraded then!
