4 GB HDD for PSP

Did a search on this, didn't find anything. I saw this on Engadget this morning.

Basically, it's an external drive that plugs into the memory stick slot of the PSP to greatly increase storage. Comes with a 2X battery from the same company as well. Going to cost about $250 when it's released, which isn't bad when you consider the costs of memory sticks and the amount of storage. Cool stuff.

Its in the sticky..but whatever..I think ill wait for some impressions on this before i put my money down.

I like the relatively small size and compact shape of it:

It gives me more hope for a future PSP revision with an internal HDD.

that is cool as hell.... me wants... even if I don't have a need for it!

Does the product this is an upgrade to the X2 battery have enhanced battery life over the standard PSP battery?

EDIT: Oh forget it just checked.. double capacity... sweet.

Yeah, the comination of battery and hard drive is going to be hard to resist. More music, more game saves, video, and with longer time to liste/watch/play. The homebrew market is giong to love this thing! :)

It says a cable goes from the pack to the memory slot... I'll wait to see how they implement this, sounds a bit dodgy.

Yeah, to me it looks like it slides into the battery slot, replacing the current battery, then you have a cable that slides into the memory stick port to provide the hdd connection for the PSP. Not sure i'd use the word "dodgy". But it will be interesting to see how it works in the real world.

Well it's not like it's coming from some small garage outfit, Datel tends to make need products, but yeah it'll be interesting to see how the cable part works...

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm all for higher capacity for the PSP... as long as that cable is not easily pulled off the slot or the pack itself.

I'm really curious as to how they deal with the memory slot cover and how fast the hdd's transfer speed is.

Yeah, Nos_G those are legitimate concerns. I wouldn't want a product like this to look like an add on. I'd want it to be pretty seamlessly integrated.

i know they cant make a micro HDD, but it sucks since it'll render my logitech case useless...unless i can mod it somehow

the hdd speed is in all likelihood faster than a memory stick...

External, faster then Pro Duo...not sure about that one. Just saw a post on a 2GB MS pro duo stick for 150 bucks though, think i'd rather pick that up then having that thing sticking out of the back and a cable wire running from that to my Memory Stick port. Which i'm assuming you couldn't close the port door so now that will be broken off in no time. Yea no thanks, i'll pass on that.

Definitely need to see how they plan to connect into the MS slot since its on the other side of the PSP.
