A lot more powerful. Twenty-one were specially created by the God Emperor as his "Sons" to lead the Astartes legions and each Primarch has some level of psychic ability that enhances their skills and abilities.

Basically, Primarch>Custodes>Astartes.

Of all the Primarchs I think the most interesting is Konrad Curze. The guys entire life is a rollercoaster, growing up entirely alone on a planet of perpetual night with massive amounts of crime. Obsessed with justice, Curze sets out to fight crime as a ultra violent vigilante, leaving grisly examples of his victims as a deterrent. He ends up basically becoming the Night Haunter, basically Batman if he tortured bad guys to death. The whole time hes plagued by visions of a horrible future he feels he can't change. Eventually the legend of the Night Haunter becomes so powerful and terrifying that crime virtually drops to zero.

When he finally meets the Emperor he gets a vision of his own death so powerful he immediately starts trying to claw out his eyes. Basically none of his brothers like him or his methods as he joins their efforts in the Great Crusade and leads the 8th Legion, taking his path of using extreme sadism and collective punishment to bring systems into compliance. I believe hes the first Primarch to order his troops to open fire on another Legion before the onset of the Horus Heresy as he and Magnus have a dispute over whether to destroy or Psyker Temple and Curze utterly refuses to compromise with Magnus. Basically hes like "the Emperor says we blow places like this up, I am going to shell this place from orbit whether or not your guys are inside."

He goes more and more insane as time goes by and eventually morphs into this almost absurd comic book villain with a room he likes that's walls are just covered in screaming dismembered bodies. There is actually a moment where Sanguinius almost gets through to him. Both can see the future, and Sanguinius actually tries to offer him compassion instead of hatred. But Curze refuses to believe the future that torments his broken mind can change.

As with so many 40k discussions this post went on longer than I thought lol

Those would be the most elite Space Marines of the Blood Angels legion that Sanguinius leads, the Sanguinary Guard.

One of the funniest shopping trips with my brother was when he wandered into a Games Workshop store in the mall and the guy working there was 1000% all in on Warhammer. He tried for ten minutes to get my big bro to play with him, but my brother was not at all into the hard fantasy and scifi. It was hilarious and awkward.

I wonder if the world could handle a TV show based on the Horus Heresy. Might have to see how the LOTR show winds up first.

Space Marines tend to look at their Primarchs with admiration and in the case of Sanguinius, they would view him as a loving, irreplaceable father-figure second to only the Emperor and would stand with their Primarch until death under any circumstance.

now that primarchs are more powerful than astartes, but by how much....

1 primarch equals like what 5 astartes would you say? or more than that?

There is more of a gulf, on average, between Custodes and Astartes than Primarch and Custodes. IIRC Valdor and a few other Custodes are supposed to be able to match Primarchs.

To put this into perspective, the Custodes are to the Emperor what the Astartes are to the Primarchs. In a lot of ways the Custodes are lesser Primarchs - they are based off of the Emperor's own genetics just like the Primarchs are, but with less specialization and modification and less of the Warp influence that went into creating the Primarchs (which is why the Custodes appear to be incorruptible).

The Astartes are built off one of the Primarchs' genes to create independent and specialized Gene Seed lines, so they are further removed from the Emperor, have all the (Warp-induced) flaws of their respective Primarchs, and have further mutation due to the Gene Seeds being unstable in themselves. It appears that the Emperor and his engineers intended for the Primarchs to always be around to periodically reinforce their Astartes Gene Seeds lines, but the Loyalist Primarchs are dead/running around the Warp/in stasis aside from one, Roboute Guilliman.

It's indeterminate. They are portrayed as peerless and so are only ever killed via acts of suicide or one of their own. If they are ever defeated in battle it is often through great effort and sacrifice but the defeats are temporary.

In theory, you should be able to swarm them with Astartes but how much and how is up to the writer. Since Primarchs are limited in number, the writers don't usually place them in absurd places or odds they shouldn't get out of, like tanking an entire Hive fleet or Tombworld by themselves.

In that sense they are plot-shielded.

Primarchs are portrayed to have possessing some sort of special characteristic to them that makes them something beyond in capability. You don't expect a bunch of Minotaurs or a Chaos Sorceror to kill a Primarch as they've done with Custodes.

That's Rogal Dorn, Primarch of the Imperial Fists who you see in yellow power armour beside him. Basically, if you see a giant, armoured human towering over even the Astartes, he's likely a Primarch. Just a few posts above you'll find the Primarch Roboute Guilliman towering over his Ultramarines Astartes.

Those.. douches.

They are rebooting 40K in a similar fashion as what they did to WH:Fantasy.

Welps, hope there are new cool minis to paint atleast, not buying anymore books.

Considering the scale of W40K the scenes would be prohibitory expensive e.g. skirmishes with Chaos during Black Crusade involve millions.

from what I read it was actually Lorgar more so than Horus that started the heresy... would you agree with that?

Sure. Lorgar laid the groundwork and Horus was the chosen champion that could herd the cats long enough for Chaos to accomplish its ambitions.

40k lore is cool but half of art for it is so fucking gay.... This guy with wings is good example of that. Marines walking without helmets is even more gay.
