I recently watched Alien and Aliens back to back. Aliens, like True Lies, feels like the screen disappears and you're looking through an open window. It's startingly realistic, especially right after a grainy movie.I saw this technical analysis of Aliens 4K on Reddit:

He says its only an upscale and doesn't have real HDR.
Nice! I've got the DVD version in the same packaging. Is the 4K one worth getting? (This would be my third purchase of this movie.)
I'd say it's a worthy upgrade. Certainly the best it's ever going to look.Nice! I've got the DVD version in the same packaging. Is the 4K one worth getting? (This would be my third purchase of this movie.)
I bought the 4K edition, UK version - last copy left in the shop. The packaging is actually a big downgrade compared to the old US Criterion DVD edition I've got. The DVD has a double gatefold, with the booklet and poster inserted alongside, instead of a single wide insert with the discs stacked on top of each other.I'd say it's a worthy upgrade. Certainly the best it's ever going to look.
A YouTuber shed light on what may have happened with Cameron’s 4Ks. He didn’t have the time.
Titanic looked good and I can recommend that one but the others are probably only worth it as bargain bin discs at best. However, like the video says, this is probably the final format and we shouldn’t normalize these type of techniques by buying the disks.Well thanks for that post.
I wasn't aware how bad these upscales were. They have not been in stock on amazon, so that saved me from wasting the money. I can only hope they can do a better version. I swear I saw some videos praising these new editions. But having that video show the differences really shines that light on the problem.
The Abyss looks and sounds amazing imo. No way bargain bin material.Titanic looked good and I can recommend that one but the others are probably only worth it as bargain bin discs at best. Aliens 4k looks 95 great to me. I've seen that movie a hundred times prior to 4k and there is only a handful of shots that the 4k looked a little strange to me. I'd say it's a great upgrade from blu. Imo

Have you seen it for yourself?
