60s children imagine life in 2000

Ah yes, the '60s, when the youth were composed, stoic, and thoughtful.

Cool vid though! Lots of prescient takes.
The youth just loved Doo Wop music!

A slap on the wrist is hardly assault. What's the alternative? What we have now? Nothing wrong with a little bit of discipline and respect for authority.

Problem is it doesn't stop with a slap on the wrist. Lots of horrific shit happened in the classroom back then. And yeah, fuck that.

What's with all these weird rose colored glasses cause a handful of privileged kids talked into a camera. Shit was decided backwards in the 60s despite these weird kids talking nice.

People shagging at 16 to get a council flat are not doing it because of their left wing values. It is a lack of values, or rather a consequence of a lack of investment in education and jobs for these kids to go to - removing hope and aspirations from entire towns - which was directly caused by the policies of deindustrialisation and putting all of our eggs into the London finance sector. These were not policies of the left...
Well, they certainly became the policies of the left once Blair took over. I don't currently see any great plans to re-industrialise the country coming from Labour. There's vague talk about a green economy but nothing concrete. What they are very clear about is tearing down statues, arguing about Palestine and worrying about how to define a woman. None of which are particularly helpful if you're a working class lad from a run down housing estate.

As for a lack of spending on education, we spend more than almost any country on earth. The fact that most of it is wasted on pointless degrees in fatuous subjects is directly a result of Labour policy. As is the endlessly bureaucratic culture at the heart of Ofsted which strangles the life out of teachers. Obviously, the Conservatives have carried this on but at least they are trying to do something about the universities.

The fact is we cannot guarantee that life will be easy or that we will get endlessly benevolent left wing governments. Life is hard so we need a strong culture that prizes stoicism and self-restraint. Left wing values have taught us that we can sleep with whomever we want (as long as they are consenting adults) and no one should judge us. If there are consequences to those actions, the state has an obligation to sort it out for us. As a result, single parenthood skyrocketed when Labour got into power.

As for a lack of jobs, Blair inherited a growing economy with falling unemployment. He then deregulated the financial sector, leading to the collapse in 2008 when unemployment started to rise again. Since the Conservatives have been in it has been falling, aside from a slight rise due to the pandemic.

I agree that Thatcher caused a lot of damage to a great many industrial towns in the north of England. I'm certainly no fan of hers and would never defend those policies. However, something had to be done about the mess that this country was in during the 1970s which was a direct result of left wing ideology.

I'd be curious to see what these same kids think now. It was the 60's, there's definitely a few of them that are still kicking today. Get on it, reddit. I want an AMA.

We have too many kids living in poverty because of policies punishing feckless parent/s. Sure start centres and education grants can break the cycle - we need to direct the money at the kids with free school meals etc. Tbh Blair did a great job on these areas imo. I respect your position and appreciate you bringing the receipts.

I think we agree personal responsibility needs to be instilled in people.

This has nothing to do with proper parenting or a lack of social media and everything to do with an abundance of really good fucking music.

I only watched the first 4 kids (2 girls and 2 boys). Not really surprised how well behaved and coherent they are. People were much more prim and proper back then.

I'd argue the two young boys act and speak more maturely than the avg modern day 40 year old loser. Crazy how people have devolved 50-60 years later.

Too many idiots nowadays who prefer to do nothing in life acting like slobs. They should count their lucky ass stars and kissing every hard working person's butts for paying taxes to cover their useless lives.
