Visuals look weird. It's like they're both dated and "next-gen" at same time. There is also some awful jagged edges and stuff. Look at the trees lol. Dunno if 1080p simply sucks now or it's the YouTube compression..

I want to like this game real bad, hopefully it gets some polish here soon. Also, the trailer not being 60fps doesn't help either.

Looks really good, and I'm the least Monster Hunter player you could find.

Seems some people like to hate on it just because it has EA stapled on it

With the gameplay video it looks like it rips off Monster Hunter even more than Toukiden did (and it's like they deliberately show things like carving and part breaking to ensure people see it's that close to its inspiration). That's a good thing for combat dynamics and monster behaviours. It looks well done (maybe it needs a touch more hit stop), there's not too much focus on the contraptions like I thought might take away from the action, they look comparable to the traps and bombs and such in Monster Hunter really. I imagine the battle is skipped there and it's not so easy and speedy to take such a monster down, you'll be slashing at their feet a lot like at the start and like in Monster Hunter. They've already said it's split in zones and what not so I guess the core game loop is going to be pretty similar as well, as it was in Toukiden, just taking on hunting missions and what not. If the end game also requires as much time & dedication as Monster Hunter though, people may just as well wait for World 2 or whatever it's going to be called instead, the real deal instead of the imitator, as good as it may be, especially if it's shown off before this thing releases and isn't coming too much later, but good job, I'll probably try it. Of course it does need everything a Monster Hunter game needs to be good (as those always manage to be), the weapons, monster roster, meta game, gathering, upgrading, etc., all the good stuff.

I didn't know about this game, watching the video i thought it was some weird indie prototype that will never come out. Then you learn it's a Koei Tecmo game branded as a EA Originals. It's even weirder.

Nothing in the video appears to set it apart from Monster Hunter, outside of the gimmicky machine things. Still, what is there looks pretty good. It really does seem what MH: Rise would look like if it came out on other platforms instead of the Switch.

Don't think this game will last very long though. Released in just a few months after announcements, little marketing and current gen only.

It looks like a ton of fun. I like the look of how you utilize Karakuri to explore the world to hunt and in combat. Character movement seems like a nice step up too for the pace of the fights.

Looks pretty fun, the art direction is pretty nice and I like the gimmick of building machines. But hopefully they can polish up the visuals a bit before release, there's a lot of ugly shadows and shimmering all around. If it's going to look dated at least the IQ should be solid.

Though if it's as repetitive and grindy as Monster Hunter I'm out anyway.

The gameplay is confusing to me. If you can continually build devices Fortnite style which seems to inflict the most damage, why would you want to go in and attack close combat?

I wish I could like these types of games as they clearly ooze a lot of quality in almost every aspect.

However the combat itself is just so boring to me. Fighting a big creature that does an attack every few minutes while you are whaling away at it just doesn't get me excited. I tried with MH World but the entire loop of that game made me lose interest fast.

Never heard of the game but I like what I'm seeing. If there's a big community behind it I'll be jumping in.

Can't wait for this :)
Looks great fun, even the utilities I was a little worried about, look pretty useful/fun :)
Combat looks fast and fluid too, what is always a good thing.

I'm... open to liking this game... I'm not totally on board with the visuals yet. The monster designs feel very detailed, but it sort of comes across as just busy. Maybe because the video is just so shitty. There's not a lot of visual clarity and I think that's my biggest put off so far. I hope it's good? A good co op time waster while waiting for MH6:MHW2

I chose the Dengeki footage to start with as they probably know their stuff so it wasn't going be some noob and yep, it really looks like some alternate universe Monster Hunter. Some nice designs though! What I said in the previous post rings even more true now that I've seen more of the monster patterns and behaviours and how they may also try to escape or have attacks like spewing tree sap around the area and what not. Also details like monster screams affecting you, sliding down slopes, gathering items, it's all just like Monster Hunter with different moves and new monster designs (that still behave similarly as Capcom has pretty much done everything, it's hard to do something 100% new, lol, they slam, roll, swipe, charge, etc.). The map looks quite nice, flat and open in places yet intricately designed elsewhere, we'll see. Anyway, it looks like it could be the best clone yet!

Moveset is a lot more varied than I thought and the map is far bigger than I expected. I didn't watch too much since I'd rather experience it myself, but I'm looking forward to it. The aesthetic really is right up my alley.

This.

Also how many classes are in the game? I've seen 3 so far.

8 different weapons as of now I believe. I'm sure there will be some slower/heavier than shown (but I doubt they'll get the feel of the impacts as good as Capcom, still it looks mighty fine). You have to laugh at how closely they copy some things though, like certain monster behaviours, the roars affecting the player, the way they start fleeing not too fast giving you the chance to perhaps react and stop them, then after some time they go at a speed you can't keep up no matter what to reach their intended area, a lot of different stuff are like 1:1 as if they reverse engineered Monster Hunter.

8 classes?

Yeah I think this is a day 1 for me. As for the comparisons to MHW... MHW is a game I loved lol so I'm all in.

Considering the competition this is going up against, they had a real opportunity to get this game noticed by making it a real technical showpiece and really pushing the boat out graphically.... they didn't even try from the looks of things.

Don't get me wrong, the gameplay looks great (outside of the fact they could have added the ability to grapple onto the monster a la Dragon's Dogma) but graphically, it's worse than Monster Hunter Rise on the Switch.

I feel the game looks fine o_O

It's no way worse than rise

It's definitely comparable to Rise, if not worse. Textures are super low-res and pixelated; unlike in Rise. There is also no material shading (e.g. PBR materials) on the boss and environment, making everything look flat and bizarrely lit.

MonHun: Rise is much more cohesively presented; even if that game suffers from poor texture filtering and some low-quality textures that are only really seen in close-ups.

You should go look up a video of Rise and check for yourself.

Rise at least on pc had good models for the characters and monsters but the locations looked like shit, and i played maxed out at 4k.

I didn't watched the new footage but the game must look like shit to be graphically inferior to a switch game (even the beefed up pc version)

It's definitely not a final build, I watched the second dengeki video which is just showing off the map as the player travels through it (it's quite nice, vast and varied, but we'll see how good that is without the Rise mobility options, though the zip line can travel huge distances so that will definitely help) and almost anywhere terrain is uneven the collission isn't right and the player and other stuff are floating off the ground (also a goat thing is stuck in terrain), this is also visible in some fights when the monster does this tree sap attack and sap also floats off the ground etc., still it's promising. Also it's a PC build and apparently so unoptimized at this point that even beast PCs could barely get 60 fps at 1080p and they had to choose footage that wasn't constantly problematic and so on, hence the image quality isn't great in pretty much any of them (and the official footage also @ HD). At the same time I don't think it looks like something Switch could handle at all, it's just very rough and unfinished but still clearly beyond its capabilities and made for a higher base of hardware (even compared to the PC version of Rise with its 4K textures, this has proper grass everywhere etc.).

Dunno if it has classes or you just choose to equip a different weapon style as in Monster Hunter, that's what it has 8 of, I didn't pay that close attention to the preview mentioning it and it didn't go in detail.

Monster Hunter has ~14 as of now but it took a while to get there (and often in the past they started with like half or more then re-introduced the rest of them and/or new ones with the eventual expansions).

Check out the video in the OP. It's pretty clear this game is not a looker.

I'm waiting to return at home from work, watching stuff on the tablet is not great to judge graphic.

I'm just not sure how they managed to create a worse looking game than rise without the switch hardware limitations.

It seems they do have the ability to grapple DD style going by the preview footage.
