People who feel like rules are being applied to them and others around them will see red, when they see others not following the same rules and getting away with it.

I’m not big on masks, but I’ll wear one inside someone’s shop as a courtesy. It’s usually on for a few minutes and it’s no big deal. My own skepticism about their effectiveness isn’t really the issue. I think people should’ve just left her alone, but if someone asks you to put on a mask, generally it’s no big deal to throw it on or step outside.

People touching themselves doesn't relate to the effectiveness of the mask itself.
At least you didn't equate it to infringing on freedom, though, so you're doing better than some other posters in here.

The effectiveness can be demonstrated just by looking at the infections numbers all over the world right now. The lady in the video is the exception. People are wearing masks generally. Yet the infections continue. Masks might be helping slow it down a little. But they won’t fix this. Even if 100% of people wore them 100% of the time. At best they are slowing it down slightly.

No, not at all. I've learned that the ones who scream egoism through this pandemic are always often the most egoists. The ones who don't care about kids having mental health problems through all of this, the little shops and businesses who won't survive through all of this etc... All of that because they're so scared for their own little being, they want everything closed, everyone inside, ignoring all the other problems this is causing, in the name of being caring for others.

When you agree with a curfew with polices circulating in the streets at 8pm on sirens to warn everyone to stay inside, when you agree with stores being closed for almost two months, when you agree with kids as young as 6 having to wear a mask at school, while claiming others who don't are egoists, just go fuck yourself with altruism

Meanwhile I'll just go on with with the real problems I'm experiencing from inside the healthcare system throughout the pandemic. With three 5th graders that were put on suicide watch at work last week because of the measures put in place, a 12 years old who swallowed tylenols and tried to kill herself this weekend because she's sick of the measures put in place etc.. And that's just last week
All that while ignoring the facts that the governement are the ones responsible for all the elderly dying and getting infected in elderly homes and hospitals because they havent changed anything that happened during the first wave.
That's ok though, you can still wear your mask and think of yourself as altruistic if it helps you sleeping better at night. We are so altruists, wear masks!

I find it interesting that she "accused" the other person of being Muslim for wearing a mask. Might be just a coincidence but it certainly looks like she fits the common racist stereotype. Like if there were several touching points among Christian fundamentalists, anti maskers and racists. Wouldn't surprise me if she was an antivaxxer as well.

As someone who has to go out there into the world almost every day and comply with mask rules, I'm getting REAL tired of this "conflict" between the mask and anti-mask brigades. Enough already. Find something better to do!

I know this is a joke post, but there's still a serious answer for it, since there will inevitably be people on this forum who somehow take this as hate-speech, or against them, or whatever other frail reason they can come up with.
The vast majority of the US is white. Therefore, the vast majority of stupidity is white.
Since stupidity breeds anti-maskers (and flat-earners, and anti-vacciners, and whatever else) it's just a statistical inevitability that that majority of anti-maskers will be white.
What really surprises me about anti-maskers is how many of them get so angry about it. When this all started, I thought it would be a small amount of people. As it turns out, it's a huge amount of the population.
They act like it's some sort of infringement on their freedom, or some type of governmental control, or bowing down to a king, or whatever other excuse they can come up with.
In reality, it's all about people just being dicks.
They're too selfish to care about others, and all they know how to do is care about themselves; because they have the maturity of toddlers. It's apparently a world-shattering issue if they have to change one tiny aspects of their daily lives to help out the people around them. Because fuck anybody else, right?
Even worse is that they come up with some random-ass Qanon excuse for not wearing a mask. Whether it's some fake study about CO2, or masks don't prevent disease, or a great-reset, or Chinese face-tracking invading the US, or whatever blah blah blah. It's just pathetic.
The worst thing about this entire pandemic, by far, is that if people actually just isolated - truly isolated - for about three weeks, this entire thing would vanish. An actual quarantine, where nobody was around anybody else, would completely eliminate all kinds of viruses; and not just COVID. But the government is so incredibly inept, and the general population is so incredibly pathetic, that this simply can't happen. It's just sad to watch, at this point.
TL-DR: Give schools more funding and support science education.

I work in a coffee shop..... and we can ask people to wear a mask if not we can refuse to serve them. At least out company gave us instructions for that.

That's what I don't get, why are they arguing about (thing) if it's rather clear what should happen.
If you don't comply with house rules that are usually clearly signposted at the entrance and have been there even before you might have overlooked them, then get told that you are not complying with that rule, you have to leave the business. What do you expect to happen, holler and scream, then I'll serve you? Here I'd grab you by the scruff of the neck and get you out, in america I'd wait for the police or some sort of security to turn up.

The establishment she's in is obviously a private business -- not public property -- and they can, for any reason, eject her from the premises.

I think that's perhaps part of it, but unfortunately, I also think the majority of it is ignorance. My guess is they think anywhere outside their own homes is considered "public."

From watching a lot of anti-mask content and other people's comments, it basically comes down to these 3 things.
1. They simply don't believe it works.
2. They believe their freedom is being violated.
3. They believe it is part of a giant government conspiracy to control us all and the masks are just the starting point.
