A Goldeneye 007 remaster ‘could be revealed in the next few weeks’, it’s claimed

The XBLA game was a remaster of the N64 game. While Rare was involved and Nintendo approved it, Activision had the exclusive Bond rights at the time and wouldn't permit it to be released.

Thats right, I remember that the deal was supposed to involved the Wii getting the Virtual Console version as well, I mean you had Nintendo, Rare, Activision, Microsoft and most importantly MGM having to agree,

At least now its only Amazon and IOI that have the Bond Rights so it should be easier, especially if MS want it on Xbox

Have you played it lately? It's aged amazingly poorly and nothing like you remember.

Now, I never played the full remake that has leaked, but wasn't officially allowed to release. We will see if Xbox gets that or if it gets the same N64 version that will also likely launch on Switch Online Expansion Pass.
It doesn’t matter how I remember it or what it plays like now. What matters is that it will sell a shit ton of copies. Xbox will get a full 4K60 version of the game I imagine. Much like Perfect Dark did and that still plays great!

Everyone swooping in here to say "GoldenEye aged poorly" if you could kindly shut the fuck up and fuck off back to the depths of hell to continue rightfully burning for all eternity that'd be swell. You clearly didn't play the XBLA leak that was brilliant nor have you touched the game in any emulator over the years let alone the 1964 or Xenia keyboard/mouse packages. Perfect Dark is great too but I guess you think it aged poorly too. May a drug addled Elvis probe you thoroughly for the rest of your days. I hope one day you can find joy beyond that of the annual Call of Duty release and finally find peace in this world of overwhelming darkness.

Maybe in the nostalgia bubble. I cannot see this game being successful being the same core experience.
What else would be the point. Why even Goldeneye and not another Bond movie then?

They’ve tried new takes on it a few times and they sucked.

People want the nostalgia and fun at 60FPS. If it’s anything like the n64 Perfect Dark remaster for 360, it’ll still be a blast to play. Couldn’t disagree with you more.

Amazon has no say whatsoever in the Bond game rights. They only have distribution rights to the movies. MGM never had any say either. The rights are held by DANJAQ/EON 100%. IOI's game rights aren't exclusive either, which is why this release is happening.

What attracts people like you to a thread like this? Plenty of people have played the leaked game and still love it.

Are you gonna do the same thing about the ninja turtles collection thread? How it won’t play as good as Streets of Rage 4 or something like that?

I loved playing this game in local co-op but but it was never really good and more of a product of it's time and the lack of quality FPSs on console than anything else.

To put it in perspective this game came out one year before Half-life was released.

Let them find out for themselves that it aged like milk (because it was never good to begging with).

It's amazing how many people say this, and based on nothing at that. It's practically become an auto-meme at this point. Some dude at work even said it to me when the game came up. GoldenEye 007 might have aged poorly if someone else had created something better to fill the specific void during the last 20 years left by Rare's games and Timesplitters, but nobody has. It remains a classic in its own subgenre.

Mate, i'll have what you're smoking, didn't realize all this time me and my pals wasted so many hours playing something shit.

Game was fire and paved the way forward for console FPS.

All videogames (bar a few exceptions) date poorly doesn't mean they weren't any good. Next thing you'll be saying mario 64 wasn't really good either.

i've got he N64 copy and the leak and the game still holds up amazingly well. Like timesplitters higher difficulties giving you more to do, cheats, bots, nostalgia all in 60FPS plus. The game is amazing and the fact people are on some hate train truly shows how boring there lives are. I find it strange that people are saying it didnt age properly.

At least you are getting the chance of realizing it now, better late than never.

Goldeneye had two things going for it, local split screen multiplayer and the fact that FPS on console completely blew and were drastically inferior to what was available on PC.

I couldn't disagree more with your last statement, plenty of games don't age poorly, makes me wonder if you even replay old games. Usually the ones that do are just being exposed as not ever being good in the first place.

edit: Making FPS more popular on consoles is hardly a merit and if anything it paved the way for consoles to be dominated by a genre that the main input device used on consoles is hardly suitable for.

I don't need any chances, I could just go upto the loft and dust off the N64 if i wanted to.

If you think the only thing Goldeneye had going for it was split screen then your in the wrong thread.

Not a merit how? Pretty sure we wouldn't have got Halo CE and in turn todays modern console shooters if it wasn't for Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. They all play on controller perfectly fine, and do to this day.

Keep dribbling over that keyboard and mouse and crying about the good old Unreal Tournament and Half life days and tell me those game haven't aged either.

Half-Life aged really well, what was bad about it like the Xen part was bad in 1998 as well.

Halo, Goldeneye and Perfect Dark are way overvalued by console playersm

Is it really so important the game is successful or appeals to modern gamers? The important thing is that the game will be officially available for the first time in over 20 years which should hopefully lead to its continued preservation and existence.

But they are console games?

Not point continuing this, pretty clear you have no interest in the game and are here just to look down your rose tinted PC snobbery nose at the console peasants. Move on.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

Exactly. Not sure why people are expecting this remaster of a beloved 20+ year old game to compete with modern shooters.

No one is realistically expecting that.

Yup, its a piece of history and means a lot to a lot of people myself included.

I still believe Mario 64 is an amazing game. I can admit some games have added poorly, but Mario 64 is certainly not one of them.

I also enjoyed the crap out of the Perfect Dark remaster and expect to love this game like I did back in the day

what makes this game still special to many of us geezers was the local 4 player matches, imo atleast. i obviously want updated graphics and control refinements, but i hope they tried to "remaster" that local co-op experience so many of us grew up on. I'll be playing this with my kids, hopefully they get to experience something remotely close to the experience i had with friends in the late 90s

Was just an example, after the wild claim that GE was never a good game, which is frankly blasphemy. But yeah Mario64 still holds up.

it will be weird playing 4 player split screen at more than 9FPS lol.

I could still plug in my old N64 and play Goldeneye and Perfect Dark and still have fun. I don't need any emulator or "better controls". *shrug*

The N64 controls are like second nature to me. I didn't even know people had a problem with them until I played multiplayer with a friend of mine a few years ago and he pointed out the controls to me. I was so baffled. And then I started seeing people say the same thing on forums.

I obviously get why people say the controls have aged now, but it took me many years to realize controls would even be an issue for anybody.

As soon as I saw "it's been claimed" in the title, I KNEW it was Jeff Grubb, and therefore a useless thread. The guy is right about 5% of the time
Funny, he seems to have been right a lot lately: E3's cancelation, DA4, Jedi Survivor, PS+ expansion. And yet the haters keep acting like he never is.

Tell me which one of those was not predictable already, or already rumored. They all were. The guy makes obvious guesses and is sometimes right. He is a joke

I've got a lot of love for Goldeneye. It's a good choice for a remake , even if they don't do a 100% overhaul remake a hit of modernization would be good for it

K&M is garbage. Yeah, Battlefield 4 was a lot of fun with people constantly landing near impossible shots.

It discourages map movement.

More accurate doesn’t always mean more fun.

Please, I won't even get into it. FPS on controllers?
