A great 2005 for the cube in Japan

Some fantastic games on the horizon (and some big sales I reckon):

27th Jan Resident Evil 4
24th Feb Starfox Assault
17th Mar Donkey Konga 3
24th Mar Killer 7
20th Apr Fire Emblem

Zelda 2005
Mario Baseball
Homeland
DDR featuring Mario
Kirby
Animal Crossing 2 ?
Super Mario 128 ?
Pokemon ?

If all those games come out and live upto expectations, could be it's best year yet for games. Will it boost the fortunes of the machine though, that's the question....

The system is dying there, but it should be interesting if Nintendo can manage to keep sales the same as this year at the very most.

Zelda 2005 - Not so sure about this. Could be a big game, but the Zelda franchise as a whole has been weak since FSA, apparently.

Resident Evil 4 - Think it'll do well, and probably push the Cube over 20k for the week

Super Mario 128 - Need actual info on how it looks and plays and you know... a release date would help too. Can't comment.

Pokemon - See above.

Starfox - I think this'll do about as well as Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat, if SFA sales are of any indication

Mario Baseball - This could be a nice hit for them (no pun intended). Baseball is big over there.

Fire Emblem - This series has been dying down in Japan. I'm not sure if VII and VIII broke 300k on the GBA. I don't think this will do a whole lot over there. I bet it plays damn good though.

Homeland - Giftpia 2

DDR featuring Mario - ...What? EDIT: Just saw... but isn't DDR a bigger hit in Europe?

Kirby - This could have some nice, long legs. All past Kirby games have. Not so sure it being a system seller though.

Donkey Konga 3 - Uh... I don't see this outperforming DK2 (which was under 50k).

Killer 7 - I think this will bomb hard.

Animal Crossing 2 - See SM128 and Pokemon. Plus, it could have been moved to another system like DS or Revolution already. Whatever system it's released on, it will do well.

honestly, half of this list is not gonna sell that much (but lots of quality games for sure)

Hmmmm..

Over half a million:

Resident Evil 4
Kirby
Zelda 2005
Mario 128
Animal Crossing 2
Pokemon

Over 250k:
Mario Baseball
Fire Emblem
Starfox Assault

And that's being quite conservative.

Not being conservative enough. I don't think FE, SFA, or RE4 will break those barriers you set, and Kirby will have troubles squeaking by.

Zelda 2005 - Gonna be huge. Minish cap did poorly, but hey.

Resident Evil 4 - I'd love to do to 300k week 1, and push the cube over 75k. Gotta be much bigger than Tales of Symphonia and FF:CC surely??

Super Mario 128 / Pokemon- agreed

Starfox - Starfox Adventures did 250k and was an average spin-off. Ace Combat games do about 400k, Starfox 64 did 640k. I reckon 300k isn't a lot to ask.

Mario Baseball - Yup, should be on par with Mario Tennis and Konami's Powerful Pro - 400k+

Fire Emblem - will do 300k easily.

Homeland - Possibly Giftpia 2. Still 150k for a nice niche title

DDR featuring Mario - read the thread

Kirby - Very long legs, 750k is a very distinct posibility

Donkey Konga 3 - DK2 did about 125k iirc

Killer 7 - Could well bomb. 100k i think

Animal Crossing 2 - dunno what system / whe, but 750k is again very possible

Look at past histories though:

Kirby: Fountain of Dream 950k
Kirby: Labyrinth of the Great Mirror (or whatever it was called) 650k and counting (prob over 700 by now).

Starfox Adventures 250k
Starfox 64 640k
Starfox SNES 800k

Fire Emblem on GBA - first one did 350k, other 2 have done about 300k

Mario Sunshine / Zelda:Wind Waker / Mario Kart: Double Dash 900k+

Mario Golf GC did 300k
Mario Tennis GC 400k+

Donkey Konga 450k
Donkey Konga 2 125k

Donkey Kong:Jungle Beat 200k+

REmake 360k
Resident Evil 0 450k

Final Fantasy:CC 350k
Tales of Symphonia 301k

Naruto 225k
Naruto 2 475k
Naruto 3 300k+

of course its a great year

at least GC will have something worthy in Jan & Feb.. last year they released nothing till March

RE4 will easily become the highest selling third party GC game in Japan.

Well it needs to beat Naruto 2 (and soon Naruto 3) which is on about 475k

It has to break 500k, surely??

No disrespect but you're talking bumhole mate. You don't think RE4 will break half a mill? Are you tripping? :)

Most Nintendo fans have high hopes for game sales. Stop trying to predict the sales, and lament on how awesome the games will be. The GC will have an active period. Be happy.

I'm out of the loop - Is Kirby going to be a traditional platformer, like Kirby's Adventure, but in 3D, or is it going to be some awful shit like Kirby's Air Ride?

Erm... but that's the point of the thread?!!

Strange boy

Similar to Kirby 64 from what we can gather- a semi-3D kind of side-on platformer.

haha, you know when you open a brosnhat thread youre in for his wildly inflated sales predictions.

Which are wildly inflated???

You don't think Kirby and RE4 will do 500k?? You're mad!!

And Starfox will do 250k. What's the last big Nintendo game not to pass 250k?

Pikmin 2 is on about 550k and Paper Mario 2 on 500k. Why won't Starfox reach 250?

RE4 will be the big seller in that bunch. Forget what the prequels, and remakes sold on GC, RE4 will do well.

The Minish Cap, Fire Emblem VIII, DK:JB...

Well that's where you're wrong.

Last time we saw the Minish Cap on the charts, it had done:

GBA Zelda no Densetsu: Fushigi no Boushi Nintendo 11,000 149,000

22nd nov - 28th according to Famitsu.

Then it dropped off the charts.

Look at MCs chart for this week (http://www.m-create.com/jpn/s_ranking.html)

There's Zelda at 48, last week it was about 33 when all the Nintendo games got a bit of a boost. Last week alone, it did 20k, and about another 13-14k this week. Then there's the 3 weeks between the 29th Nov and the 20th dec where it will have done around 10k a week.

That's another 60k alone. It will do 250k before it's finished (another 10-11 next week)

The Fire Emblem:

GBA Fire Emblem: Seima no Kouseki Nintendo 4,357 219,232

This was on the 15th - 21st Nov according to Famitsu. It's hardly inconcievable that it did a further 30k over xmas.

And Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat was on

GC Donkey Kong Jungle Beat Nintendo 32,000 153,000

according to Famitsu, although MC reported it at 108k last week alone, and 45k the week before, so 185k would be closer to MC's figure. Again, it'll pas 250k without much trouble before it's finished.

The only one of those 3 that may struggle a bit is Minish Cap, which everyone is shocked at how much it bombed anyway...

Well this is what I'm saying, if REmake can do 360k and RE:Zero can do 450k, then why do people think RE4 will struggle to do 500k??? With the enormous hype, reviews, new-style, lack of competition, and everything else. RE:Outbreak did 450k as well.

I'd love to see MGS3 numbers. In all fairness, RE has always been bigger than MGS in Japan, although I know the obvious userbase issues offset that to an extent.

RE4 will bust out a million inside of two months. Star Fox will hit 450k. Zelda will be 1.25 mil in 1.5 months.

You heard it here.

So you're gonna buy the 300k, 250k and 450k copies it takes to get them there?

Zelda 2005 will sell well, no matter what. Zelda always rakes in the cash.

Killer 7 will bomb, horribly.

Resident Evil 4 will do great, but not too great since it'll be available on PS2 in 10 months or so..

I have no comment on any of the other ones

stop talking about homeland as if it was anything like giftpia.

homeland will be goty 2005. just wait!

I dunno I think GameCube is done in Japan.

Should get a sales boost during RE4 and the usual holiday season, but other than that it'll probably struggle especailly now with the DS and PSP also eating away at player's wallets.

I'm thinking 450k for RE4, 800k for Legend of Zelda, and a solid 500k for Mario Baseball.
