A Splatoon 3D platformer: you know you want it

I bet that a single player dlc is coming in the next months, or at least i really hope so because the campaign is really a lot of fun to play and it seemed a sort of pumped up version of the wall mechanic in A Link Between Worlds.

The next Splatoon is gonna have a lot more content on the single player and co-op experience, but Nintendo will always focus on the competitive multiplayer side.

Those colours on online matches. So freaking addictive.

I think it is fine as it is. Having the SP mode together with the MP mode if they ever make the sequel is still the ideal. Just add more stages and expand the stage size more on the next Splatoon and it'll be set.

I don't know about that, It's not like nintendo always makes their sequels much bigger than previous iterations. For instance they got rid of the story mode from brawl entirely.

Since Subspace Emissary took up more resources than they expected for something that wasn't received as well as they would have hoped, something they wanted to prevent with the next Smash game. The story mode's removal allowed for more attention to the actual combat & the roster, the former of which was lacking in Brawl.

Well, who would be the main enemy in this game? Some of the natural predators for squids include penguins, sperm whales, & sharks
, and I doubt DJ Octavio is in any position to create another uprising.

You could also look at Pikmin 3 or NSMB U or the Mario Kart franchise. It's speculative at this point what they'll do with Splatoon. It wouldn't be surprising if things people expected to be there turn out not to be.

splatoon single player is basically Galaxy + Portal. an expanded version (galaxy 2 + portal 2? ffff) in the inevitable bigger budgeted sequel would be tops.

this what we should really be wanting out of a sequel. as much as i love the game, the music is pretty disappointing. it doesn't fit the aesthetic anywhere near as well as naganuma's stuff would, or something more overtly hip hop like Nujabes.

Ya'll in here talking about 3D platformers when the real future of Splatoon spin-offs should be volleyball.

This is based on game-play and aesthetic, please do not make this about DoA being sexual. They're teenagers.

We got enough great Nintendo platformers as is, I'd rather they'd go the Borderlands route with full 4p online co-op, loot and expanding the RPG mechanics that are already in Splatoon 1.

I don't think I've agreed and at the same time disagreed so much with one post on GAF ;)
The music is the most disappointing part of a fantastic package, but man jazzy depressing background music with a sprinkle of hip-hop like the naganuma's track you've posted would be 100x even more disappointing and totally out of place with the soul of the series. It needs something catchy like a SEGA game from the '90s and energetic but less "Sum 41” pseudo punk-rock you've heard a thousand times before and way more distinct.
Or maybe just give the job to Hirano and make me the happiest man on GAF :D

I'd be up for more Splatoon, in platformer form. It's a really cool IP, and a very solid game from what I played at E3.

I haven't tried the full version yet.

yeah, i mean that was something i found after 1 second's googling. i think it'd work in the shops/plaza though.

the twitchy/tinny/patently uncool music in the game at the moment is painfully at odds with the otherwise brilliant art design. i think driving, slightly gaudy house and fuzzy, off kilter hip hop, something with a bit of 'kick' would work well.

Splatoon has disappointing and out of place music? You must be playing a different game, I can't agree with this at all. Final Boss in particular was fantastic.

While I found splatoon a fun 4 hour single player game, not sure how would become a platformer without a whole new set of enemies.

Design seems way to copy and paste, in first few stages you are introduced to a octo with a shield, who you need to nade/flank to draw its attention away, but for whatever reason hes missing in nearly every stage after that, it often felt like a platformer mixed with a light gun game purely as 90% of enemies has no AI.. They just wouldn't fit in a pure platformer

For some reason playing the game gave me huge Jak & Daxter vibes and it made me want a platformer like that. A big open world that still has divided themed areas interwoven together. A story starring "Agent 1" and "Agent 2" (avoiding spoilers here but the fans who have played it know they would like that :P) possibly involving co-op, exploring the world of the Octarians. I don't even want multiplayer to bog it down (besides the possibility of the co-op). I want a full blown Splatoon character platformer.

The music is perfect for the quirky vibe of the game.

I'm not sure how to say this without sounding completely out of touch, but that music is too lighthearted and (dare I say it) kiddy for a game that tries (and generally succeeds) to be a bit urban and cool. The pop punk stuff is lame af and the synthy stuff sounds like some corny shit like PC music or something. Doesn't suit the rest of the game at all.

I think the distinction the OP is making is between the bite-sized "activity" structure that Splatoon uses and a more traditional "adventure" structure you might see in say, Banjo Kazooie or Ratchet and Clank.

The latter would certainly be a very big departure from the structure that Splatoon uses now.
The reason for been "bite sized" is due to development constraints, time and budget been main ones. It also a lot easier to bug test.

If Nintendo deems worthy to turn this into a franchize rest asured you'll get a far more ambituos 1 player mode.
