That entire business is a black hole of douchebaggery.

Also, I'm sad that this terrible company and GAF's fat-shaming contingent have aligned in some kind of twisted enemy-of-my-enemy agreement.

I like their button ups. They are nice quality, and you can get some good deals on their website from the clearance section. As a plus you don't have to step into their store and choke on cologne.

"He doesn't want larger people shopping in his store, he wants thin and beautiful people," Lewis told Business Insider. "He doesn't want his core customers to see people who aren't as hot as them wearing his clothing. People who wear his clothing should feel like they're one of the 'cool kids.'"
Trying to imagine someone who isn't a teenager using sentences like this makes my brain hurt.

Forget Abercrombie, we should all be following Yeezy's lead. He's leading the way in the fashion world at the moment.

Abercrombie feels like a store that doesn't want Mexicans in there. Every time me and my friends go there, we feel like we aren't supposed to be there. It doesn't help when the clothing style is whiter then the the whitest of breads that one can consume. It's like it has some hidden force field that just creeps the fuck out of people of color.

What's the difference between white style and Mexican style clothes?

I worked there. If you weren't an attractive employee you were put in the clearance room or told that you 'seem like your personality would enjoy the stock room. It's more casual!' Yes, it's awful, but attractiveness is the most desirable skill in their workforce. Companies like Intel highlight people who have made innovations in their company. Abercrombie shows which attractive people like their clothes and make them look awesome. I don't see an issue.

It only makes sense though - they aren't going to put a shirtless Hurley from Lost next to Phyllis from the Office to demo their brand. It's not the marketing demographic they go for. They are successful and good at how they market. Coach doesn't want 6 year old boys to buy their purses, so they don't make products or advertisements catering to that demographic.

i wouldn't say successful

Not forever...I can get a good 3-4 years out of their cargo pants/shorts. Better than most brands.

speaking of their t-shirts and dress shirts. the neck don't stretch, and the colors stay pretty much that. I've owned some since college days, and that was like 6 years ago

Considering their advertizing consists of pretty white people they probably don't. Unless maybe if you are a really cool Mexican. They would probably need to clear it with corporate first though.

Is this news supposed to outrage me?

Good for them. Nobody should cater to the obesity epidemic.

I would still never wear the brand. Not in a million years.

I have a hard time imagining someone who's not still in grade school wearing A&F.

Kapura would have loved these guys.

Well, according to white people, we got a more urban flare. Much like how they describe black people.
Ehh.... There's no such thing as a specific race "style". Clothes are clothes man. If you're talking about culturally specific clothing then that's one thing, but racially specific clothing doesnt exist. I'm a minority and I own quite a few pairs of Abercrombie jeans and button-downs. Never felt like I shouldn't be there buying "their" clothes. Just sounds weird.

ditto

I worked at A&F when I was in high school. Good god. I regret those days of me wearing their shitty bland 90s clothing. I used to think I was cool wearing that awful shit. Thank god my fashion sense has matured a bit since then. And retail fuckin blows. It's definitely one of those jobs that made me realize that I better work my ass off in school so I don't end up doing shit retail when I am older.

I dig Abercrombie's jeans and button-ups.. but yeah I'm like 6' tall and have to get the XL shirts so that they're not too short.

And yeah, their stuff is well made. The vibe in their stores these days is kinda weird IMO and their marketing is pretty ridiculous, but I end up buying most of my stuff from them online anyways.

I haven't been in abercrombie in like a decade but it can't be worse than hollister pumping cologne into the air.

Lane Bryant CEO never said "we hate skinny bitches".
This. I don't really have a problem with them not carrying certain sizes. It's the blatant disdain for larger women simply for their size and the fact that he feels it appropriate to make his feelings known. I'm glad A&F's sales are shitty because the circular logic of wearing the brand makes you cool because the brand is cool because wearing the brand is cool is 8 kinds of dumb.

I think A&F do this as well. Every time I pass their store in the mall I get hit with it. I think it smells pretty good honestly, but they are definitely infusing the air with a fragrance of prep.

Maybe it's because I grew up in Santa Barbara but I don't see anything wrong with what the guy is wearing in that picture of him sitting in the jeans and polo that people keep making fun of.

I mean yeah, having pants that are pre-worn/bleached/paint-splotched is dumb but that look is just kind of... beach culture. You live in your jeans, they're comfy even if they get fucked up, everyone wears polos or fitted tees, and sandals are the shoe of choice for the surfer beach-goer type, which is obviously the style A&E and Hollister go after. Aside from his weird face, the guy looks like a middle-aged surf rat. Leathery skin, fit, sun-bleached blonde hair, tight polo and ratty jeans with sandals.

I have several Hollister shirts and I've gone through one pair of jeans and am on my second after like 5+ years of wearing them. They're comfortable and when I'm not lazing about being a fatass and am in proper shape, they look really good on me. They're also super soft too @__@ I love them.

I don't think there's anything wrong with enjoying the brand and they're certainly well within their right to market whatever image they wish but that doesn't make this guy any less of a prick for saying what he did. Most CEO's are a little more subtle about their disdain for consumers.

That's something completely different and although I totally agree with you, I wasn't even talking about that. I mean that through the thread that picture of the CEO sitting on the bench kept getting quoted and people mocking the way he was dressed. I think the pre-stained pants are stupid but I was just saying I don't know why his outfit was being mocked because that's a really standard look for the beach-faring individual, no matter what age. Old guys surf too, that's how they dress. Maybe I'm just used to it because I grew up around it, though.
