Advance Wars DS - Official Thread

Yeah the unit graphics do look slightly different but I'm not talking about a resolution upgrade - I love the look of the two gba wars games - just maybe some changes stylistically, you know? Change the units to have a new look, not because there was
anything wrong with the old. But they could still be working on that, those might just be placeholders for now.

Any screens on the unit vs unit closeups? Wonder how those will look. After a while I turned them off (even if they did look cool) because they slowed down the larger maps.

omg looks HOT :D might be my first DS game purchase depending on several other games.

would kill for Nectaris / Military Madness DS and Herzog DS :D :D :D :D :D

the first at least has a prayer of happening since Hudson is alive and well.

Also does anyone know if they're keeping the "Advance" part of the moniker? It would make sense in the US, where the series gained massive popularity under the name "Advance WARS", but it's traditionally called (System Name) WARS in Japan.
It could go either way - they're obviously using the Advance Wars world - Orange Star, Blue Moon, etc.

But they're using new characters - I'm not convinced that's Sami beside Nell. Plus, there's another character in the background (shirt with torn sleeves, possibly blonde) that we haven't seen before.

Damn, when did I become such a Wars fanboy?

Leave it to Intelligent Systems to not only justify the dual screens, but sell me on a DS.

I've always thought that the hardware had potential. It just needs the right implementation.

Intelligent System

I once again have to ask why the hell Nintendo is giving the Gamecube version of Advance Wars to fucking Kuju instead of the venerated Intelligent Systems.

Oh well, at least there is Fire Emblem GC to look forward to.

I suppose because the development team would do just as well on simpler hardware.

Nah, I'll buy a PSP, too, and I'll like it a lot more because it's, y'know, DECENT HARDWARE. I really hate to support shitty, cut-rate 3D, but hey: ADVANCE WARS!

Also included is a Combat Mode which makes use of the DS's touch-panel support for control; details on this mode will have to wait until a future update.

Could it be an RTS mode? That would be an interesting addition.

Oh man, I thought this game was coming out soon and I was all like "Why wasn't I informed?"

I seen these screens before. But that new information! Boy oh boy, this games makes me excited.

where is the 'new' information?

This is a good thread.

However, is it not just a bit on the early side?

You know someone will make a new one once it actually comes out. :)

It's never too early to talk about advance wars! :D

Well, it's new to me, but if you scroll around halfway down the first page of this thread someone posted a story about new Advance Wars DS details. It's good stuff! Really hyped about the dual screen aspects.`

Thanks Amir0x, I just read the details halfway through the first page. A source would have been nice, however.

Interesting stuff. But JAPAN is getting the game before us? We got both GBA Advance Wars before they even got the first! Heck, I think they got 1&2 packaged together!

Hm, didn't notice that. That is interesting.

This is a potential killer-application for DS.

I don't mind if the core game remains single player with GBA style wireless multiplayer.

But I'm hoping for some real long distance on-line play features for this. It would make Advance wars DS truly a powerful game to beat.

Never played Advance Wars ... what's it about? And shouldn't this be called DS wars now ..
I think the naming system is dead in America.. even before it began. :( Thanks to Under Fire and AWDS, but they're still in development so we can only hope! Though Under Fire shouldn't follow the same naming pattern because it's not a traditional game, Cube Wars: Under Fire works. But not just "Cube Wars". It would just be so disorganized any other way. :/

I was buying a DS anyways, but this is what I reallly wanted.

Yes. This and Animal Crossing sold me on a DS.

I've heard complaints about IS keeping the same style, but I love it. Simpler graphics makes for a better possibility of online, or single-cart 8 player games at the least.

I've never played a Wars game ever.

*ducks*

You have a DS or a GBA?

Go out, buy Advance Wars 1 and 2.

Trust me, you won't regret it

I have both. I haven't picked up a lot of GBA games this gen, but I LOVE Fire Emblem.

Man, Intelligent Systems is out to own my ass next year. Advance Wars DS, two... possibly three Fire Emblems (FE8 and FE9 are certian, hopefully FE6, too).

I may not need other games after that.

In my opinion, the three best games/series this gen in regards to art are Megaman Zero, Advance Wars and Puyo Pop Fever... I can't get enough of any of their's. Looks so damn cool.

And ironically, I've played none of them.

*slaps the shit out of Meier*

:p

Seriously, you have to buy one of these games. It's this generation's Tetris. Ridiculously addicting even though not high tech, balanced, amazingly fun.

This is what'll make me buy the DS.

The general tag system will be interesting but just another way for the computer to cheat. I bet it'll somehow transfer the super power buildup to the best general or some crap just when you think you have them beat.

Not impressed in the least bit
i'm all for junior member hate, but I have to agree... Advance Wars DS doesn't impress enough for me to consider getting a DS yet. This is mostly due to the fact that we don't know enough about how it's going to play and how the touchpad and dual screens will be used. All we can see from those screens are the graphics, and I'm not concerned about that.

edit: and besides the fact that there aren't really any games for the DS that will force me to get it, I'm holding my breath for DS SP. It's a little too bulky atm.
