I think people are over critical on Shogun. He had two injuries on his knees. It is hard to get your conditioning back to where it was coming from a 16 month lay off and injuries. Now that he fought Coleman and he is fighting in April. He will not have a lot of down time and will be back in the gym to get ready for Chuck.

Just curious. Have you guys been able to make a little money from these events or has it just been an 'entertainment expense'? Is your total on the positive or negative side thus far? :D
i started with around $30 at ufc 88. i was at $190 (god bless you junior dos santos) going into ufc 91 and took a brutal beating on that and ufc 92 and probably made some bigger bets than i should have. hovering around 100$ now.

He did absolutely nothing right. He had a target in front of him and he couldn't do shit. Anyone with any drive, any inkling of anything inside him would have delivered. I'm not even faulting him for the lousy ground work or getting taken down way way more than he should have, but he looked like ass on his feet, even at the end of round 1.

No power, eating shots he had no place eating. Absolutely nothing redeeming about the fight. Nothing that makes you think he wants or deserves to be a fighter, then again top 10, then again a champion.

But whatever, like I said, I wanna hear what's up. I wanna see him redeem himself. But based on yesterday, it's not looking good.

The only time I made any money of note betting on MMA was on Aoki's debut in Pride. Oddsmakers had him at like +400 or something. Made almost a grand. But then the era of extra unpredictablity kicked in so I stopped while I was up.

Parlays seem to be a good play though.. well, the most fun IMO. Minimal investment for better gains.

I was thinking WTF the same as Rogan was when Shogun had Coleman in the omoplata. Why didnt he try to crank it more?

Chuck should have no problem with the Shogun we saw.. never much KO power in the fists and he wouldnt be able get Chuck on the ground. Not a good matchup for him at all.

Horn vs Palhares was my fave of the night. Staggering difference in physical attributes. Horn was countered nearly every time he tried to attack, but would get out and keep trying every time. Nice fight.

Shogun...yikes. The first round was high intensity and had to be draining, but still, very shitty performance. Also, pre-fight interview from Mark Coleman: "Shogun calls me two-faced...well..maybe I am!" Big lols from that.

I wasn't impressed with Shogun even in the first round when he immediately gotten taken down by Coleman. From the start, I remember seeing Shogun grab the thai clinch and delivering knees. I was thinking, 'oh shit, this is gonna end early and brutal'. I think those knees hurt Coleman bad and kept waiting and waiting for Shogun to finish him. We know how that turned out.

Chuck was a bad matchup for Shogun even before the injuries. Shogun is a sloppy striker with mediocre takedowns and good bjj, and great aggressiveness. The is the type of guy chuck beats.

I just watched the prelims. All 4 were worth watching.

Siver vs Mohr was especially good. Should have been FOTN IMO.

I'd like to see Eric Schafer fight Eliot Marshall next. That would be a good fight.

this is funny:

BJ Penn recently shut down a taping session for UFC: Primetime due to his disapointment with how he was portayed on last weeks show. For those of you who didn’t see it, BJ is referring to how the show was crafted in order to make it look like BJ wasn’t taking the fight as seriously as he should. According to his camp, that was all fabrication on the part of the producers in order to hype up the fight more.

Hopefully things get worked out because not only was UFC Primetime an outstanding show, it was also a hit in the ratings.

Yea the Siver vs. Mohr fight was fucking awesome. I also loved Rogan's commentary during the Kampmann fight, when he started going off about how humans should evolve turtle shells over their nuts I lost it.

I kinda hope Fedor loses just see a million fan boy tears from the internets but that being said I still picked him to win and if I had to bet I would be betting on him.

Awesome documentary, but that whole "baddest man on the planet" thing got annoying real quick. Fedor own humble approach is much better. But I guess they have to hype him for those who don't know him too well.

Also

Fedor: Tim Sylvia :lol :lol :lol
-That was over quick.

Very funny to watch all the silly graphics and comments and compare that to the calm and just classy Fedor. Especially 'The baddest man on the planet' logo :lol :lol

Fedor is just a hard working guy and something tells me he wouldn't agree to the image they try to pin on him. Other then that there was some good parts muddled up in all the sensationalism.

And Horodecki's out because of a failed Neurological test.

FUCK!

Both of my former training buddies (first Hominick, now Horodecki) have had to pull out of the event. I'm so bummed...

Thanks for posting those, that was really interesting to watch.

I love how his personality seems so different than what you might expect from seeing him fight.

What can he expect? He's going up against the People's Champ. Guys like GSP and Silva work hard to get respect from their opponents and the fans. He's not gonna get any sympathy. I really want to see GSP run a clinic on his ass. PEACE.

Seems to be kang and shogun suffer from bad habits. Kang needs to stop leaving his neck exposed all the damn time on the ground. Shogun needs to remember hes not in pride and not to work for positions that are great for stumps and kicks. Shogun would scrable up while pushing colman's head down then coleman would turtleup and shogun would look clueless.

Guess I can make some affliction predictions:

Paul Buentello vs. Kiril Sidelnikov
- Remember when the UFC was trying to get Fedor and one of the contract stipulations they balked at was having to sign a bunch of dudes from Fedor's Red Devil Fight Club? Well Kiril is one of those dudes. I don't know much about him but Buentello is pretty good and has tons more experience so I go Paul by KO.

Jay Hieron vs. Jason High
- I really hate Afflictions matchmaking. 2 cards in a row where they stick a great fighter against a nobody. Anyways Hieron by.. whatever.

Renato "Babalu" Sobral vs. Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou
- Give me a break. Babalu will sub Sok early in round 1.

Vitor Belfort vs. Matt Lindland
- Matt Lindland will do what he does best. Take Vitor down and lay on him for 15 minutes. Remember Lindland actually coined the term "Lay and Pray" when he was asked to describe his fighting style.

Josh Barnett vs. Gilbert Yvel
- Yvel has absolutely no ground game. Barnett will take him down and easily sub him in round 1.

Fedor Emelianenko vs. Andrei Arlovski
- I'm a big fan of Arlovski so it pains me that I'm going to have to watch him get his shit pushed in.

For anyone think Arlovski has a chance because of all the Freddy Roach bull shit. Just watch AA's last match against Roy Nelson, Roy Controlled him on the ground, controlled him in the clinch, and rocked AA a couple times standing up. Fedor will MURDER AA.

Here's the fight:
http://mixedmartialartvideos.com/2008/10/04/andrei-arlovski-vs-roy-nelson-video-elitexc-heat/

I predict Fedor will stand for a bit, throw or fake a punch, clinch then throw Arlovski, and armbar for the win.

Fedor Emelianenko vs. Andrei Arlovski
Does anyone know if this is a five round fight or not? I know it is for that silly belt... but who knows. I will pick Fedor, although I would really like to see Arlovski pull off the win. His performance against Roy Nelson pissed me off and I can't see him being able to beat Fedor when he has a ground game like what was shown in that fight. I mean, I don't want to be drinking the Fedor Kool-Aid, but Arlovski has not impressed me in a long time. Every performance I have seen by him has been rather 'meh' in my opinion- he just wins a lot of those performances.

Heavyweight bout: Josh Barnett vs. Gilbert Yvel
Barnett. I think Yvel is a better fighter than he was in the past, but I can't see him winning this match.

Light Heavyweight bout: Renato Sobral vs. Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou
I am a big Babalu fan, I will look forward to him continuing the destruction of Sokoudjou and the hype that surrounded him in the past.

Middleweight bout: Matt Lindland vs. Vitor Belfort
Why not pick Belfort, it would be pretty fun if he won. I think Lindland is still pretty good, and we really have no idea where Belfort is going to be, but I will pick this one pretty much on a whim.

Lightweight bout: Chris Horodecki vs. Dan Lauzon
Since Chris is out I will pick Dan to beat the guy they pull in.

Heavyweight bout: Paul Buentello vs. Kiril Sidelnikov
I guess this Sidelnikov guy is nicknamed Baby Fedor, but I think Paul is still good enough to be able to get a win here. He is an old dude and his best days are far, far behind him, but I will be cheering for him to get this win.

HDNet matches
Light Heavyweight bout: Vladimir Matyushenko vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
I enjoyed watching Vlad in the IFL, I hope he can keep his winning tendencies alive and beat a decent fighter in Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. Could go either way, IMO.

Welterweight bout: Jay Hieron vs. Jason High
Just cuz he is the guy that I have heard of.

Featherweight bout: Bao Quach vs. LC Davis
This dude is out of KC, so I will cheer for him, but Bao Quach is definetely a better fighter from what I have seen from him in ShoXC.

Featherweight bout: Albert Rios vs. Antonio Duarte
I will just pick the guy with the better record.

Welterweight bout: Brett Cooper vs. Patrick Speight
I know Cooper doesn't have a great record, but he is supposed to be pretty good, so I will pick him. And I have no idea who the other guy is either. I at least recognize several of the guys that Cooper has beaten!

Fedor Emelianenko (-325) vs. Andrei Arlovski (+250)
Josh Barnett (-500) vs. Gilbert Yvel (+300)
Renato Sobral (-165) vs. Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou (+135)
Matt Lindland (-150) vs. Vitor Belfort (+120)

My gambling for the evening... 1 unit on Yvel and 2 units on Belfort for 5.2 units

Fedor fight is 5 rounds, but I'd be surprised to see a ring girl during this fight. I think Barnett should win, but Yvel has only been submitted twice in 48 fights, though probably against weaker competition than Barnett. I dunno, I'm probably just pissing money away. Yvel by decision (if he can keep from getting DQ'd that long). I dunno what to think about Belfort at 185, but I think he's stronger than Lindland... Belfort's boxing pulls him through while hopefully avoiding Lindland's clinch and constant takedown attempts.

More importantly, AA has no friggin' heart. The guy is no doubt going into the fight scared. I'm not expecting much. I don't think he'll get Zulu'd though. I do expect him to get caught and dropped and finished. PEACE.

rewatched affliction 1 last night and watched the weigh ins on hdnet.... man, i really forgot how tacky and stupid the announcing was saying the card was probably the greatest card of all time, how the sylvia fedor fight was the biggest battle ever, how affliction is just so so awesome, all this stupid cheerleading. and tito did it last night too, saying how 'now this is the kind of organization i want to be involved with! it feels like family!' and all this garbage. its just so transparent and dumb...

anyway, i hope tonight goes well, at least i wont have to switch between 3 channels to watch the entire event like last time- in case anyone didnt know, i think last time you had to switch between FSN to watch the first 3 fights, then hdnet for the next 3, then the ppv started. and the whole time it was just awkward, you didnt get entire rounds, and some fsn channels didnt even carry the fights. this time is a little more organized.

regardless, i will hold off on saying if they can put on another card until after tonight. i just dont see how they can keep this going, they have to be losing money on every single thing that they do.

After all the upsets we have witnessed over the years, Fedor has remained the one constant. The laws of the universe are unwavering . A Fedor loss will not only be disheartening to his fans, but will prove that there are no universal constants.

I'm having difficulty finding bars that show this event! It seems that many chains like Hooters and Buffalo Wild Wings are not showing tonight's Affliction fights. Sucks...

I don't control that and either way it's not really that a big deal imo.

As people are saying it's very difficult to pick against Fedor in this but at least he is fighting an athletic guy instead of a big slow slug.

Yea, it's pretty weak. Here's the list: http://www.afflictionclothing.com/dayofreckoning/us_cc.html

I ended up buying it, since the bar we usually go to isn't showing it (they even showed the last one). I justified it by being able to see the undercard on HDnet, heh. Better not suck.

If you get HD net they begin in 20 minutes. Free fights will probably be better than the main card.
