Forget about a redemption arc for Ward, they need a redemption arc for Coulson after he murdered two innocent SHIELD agents who were only doing their job (which was doing what Coulson told them to do).

There should be a redemption arc because he killed people who he had no idea ever worked for him? How does that make sense?

Regarding the latest episode:

You guys remember those guys guarding the TAHITI-facility?
Well, it looks like they were ordered to protect what was in it by Coulson, which makes them top-class SHIELD agents, that died at the hands of their very own boss.

Too late. I already told so. :P

Garrett actually killed them, no?

To be fair, it wasn't Coulson's fault that no one told him he was the one behind the facility and that the guards would kill him if he tried to enter it (which kinda invalidates the whole bringing him back to life thing).

Except that they have their stupid non lethal night night guns that they make a point of using in every other situation in the show. There is no excusing what they did to the TAHITI facility.

In point of fact I wouldn't be surprised if there's a brief scene in which Coulson thinks about raiding the TAHITI facility and getting into a fight with the guards. Probably in the sense of being horrified at the depravity of the entire situation.

That would make sense. Coulson was essentially manipulated into attacking a facility he didn't remember and would probably feel some personal guilt over the deaths involved. But I think redemption arc would be going a bit far. The deaths of the guards in the bigger picture amounts to a friendly fire incident. Too much has been made of the whole scenario signifying a massive contradiction in the morality of the characters, etc.

As for the ICER weapons, it never even struck me as odd that they wouldn't rely on those for penetrating an armored base with unknown defenses. ICERs are fancy stun guns that have some kick to them. The team still uses lethal force and conventional weapons regularly. May has racked up a fair body count by herself.

lol, he doesn't need a redemption arc for that. It's friendly fire and a grave error, but he didn't know and based on the situation at the time, he made the right call.

He made the right call, people need to get over this.

If Coulson and his team were in the same position as those guards, they would have tried to help.

And we do not really know what the penetrating power of the icer shot is. Since it does not break skin, probably not very much. I doubt an icer round would work against someone who is wearing body armor, for instance.

Maria hills attractiveness was fucking distracting in this episode. Lost count at how many times I said "goddamn!"

One long sustained Goddaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn

I don't understand why this is still a big deal. Skye was dying and they were in the way.

Buh-bye.

Someone in this thread mentioned that Garrett was the one that shot them and considering who he really is it makes sense.

One thing that seemed a little odd, Maria Hill constantly said that Fury was dead last episode. Why?

Hill didn't get the memo from Fury that Coulson was allowed to know he survived. So she has to lie to him.

It is a bit strange that Fury told Koenig to tell Coulson, but he didn't tell Hill that.

I'm guessing that Fury didn't find it necessary to hand out a list of everyone that was to know that he wasn't actually dead. Instead, everyone that knows, and is not sure if the other person knows, is to play as if they also do not know. Keeps things simple.

Everybody so concerned about whether Coulson knowing will make Coulson Cray cray without asking if Skye will go cray cray since she didn't get memory wiped.

Typical of Fury.

Nobody cares for Marie Sue Poots

You guys really need to stop with this shit. People got banned over it, and yet here you are carrying on this pointless convo.

What? At this point its a pretty big unresolved plot point. I don't see how any character can overlook what happened without looking like a sociopath.

It's not a plot point at all. A plot point is something that either drives the story forward or changes it's direction. Redeeming Ward and Skye's Secret are two things that can and would easily change the show in a major way. The death of the guards has been handled within the show already (with Coulson's dialogue that admitted it's serious and grave nature while not being apologetic for it). Unless the writers pull some bs out of thin air later on sometime, it is done and harping on it only stagnates the current conversations around contemporary events within the show.

I disagree completely. But lets just say that saying that discussing it further is probably not a bannable offense. The last episode changed things about the guards not only are they confirmed SHIELD agents. But they most certainly worked directly under Coulson at one point.

Actually no, they most certainly did not work under Coulson. Coulson was in charge of Project T.A.H.I.T.I., not the base itself and there's a lot more that goes on there given the size of the base. The guards didn't recognize Coulson at all, which they would have if they worked for him. The secret base in Canada was staffed with a S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent who knew who Coulson was and used clearly marked S.H.I.E.L.D. equipment and supplies. And that was a base that was setup by Fury to be so secretive that HYDRA doesn't even know about it. It's far more likely that it's not a S.H.I.E.L.D. facility at all.

I still think it turns out to be a S.W.O.R.D base since it had a alien in it.

I do as well. It would make perfect sense in so many ways. Contains soft spoilers for the MCU:
S.W.O.R.D. was created by Joss Whedon, it's separate from S.H.I.E.L.D. but associates with them, and S.W.O.R.D. was mentioned in the Thor 1 alternate ending which hints at the desire to make it apart of the MCU.

Is it possible that the organization that May's mom belongs to is S.W.O.R.D.? I don't think she's part of Department H since her license plate was a PA one.

Damn, that was a good episode. It's pretty clear by now that the show was in a holding pattern up until Cap2. Glad I stuck with it, though. It's really enjoyable now. Maybe I can talk some people into watching it, because a lot of my favorite shows have rocky starts, but turn out great. I thought the whole cast was good in the one. Ward is so much better at playing a villain who seems to be falling apart at the seams. Skye convinced me more. Fitzsimmons is always good. Honestly, Coulson still had a few lines that I felt were poorly deliver, but even Tripp isn't pissing me off like most people. I thought he had good chemistry in that last scene, where they were all chilling by the pool. That was enjoyable. Can't wait to see where the next two episodes go, but if next week's is just a big
Ward's sad life expository
like it seems it might be, that will be disappointing.

Random speculation. I don't think it'll happen, but here's my tinfoil idea.
We know that the TAHITI project makes you go a little insane, and it was tested on people before Coulson. What if it was tested on other SHIELD agents? Know anyone in the show who is acting a little psychotic right now? It would be kind of neat to see that Ward had been TAHITI'd as well, but I don't think, or hope, that it's true.

I wonder if we'll see any Agent 13 next season.

I thought it was really interesting to find out what the purpose for Project T.A.H.I.T.I. was.

Being designed to resurrect a fallen Avenger.

Yeah, I liked that. Being Coulson's project it comes from such a well-meaning place, but has such dark repercussions. (No need for spoiler tags by the way, once it's aired)
