Akiba's Trip: Undead and Undressed |OT| No shoes, no shirt, all fanservice!

Oh, crap. I didn't realize you guys were Canada.

Canadian distribution has always been murky, so even though we HAVE shipped out our copies well in advance, there's no guarantee they'll be waiting for you guys tomorrow. We never have any idea what the hell goes on once our games pass that northern border -- it's like they go into some sort of crazy limbo. We can only cross our fingers and hope. ;)

Theoretically, there's no reason they shouldn't be waiting for you tomorrow. But once they leave our warehouses, their fate rests in the hands of... I don't even know who. And as you've said, this has been an issue in the past, so it could very well be an issue now as well.
I know that it can't always be perfect, but it seems like only the smaller companies like yours, Aksys & NISA seem to have this issue. It's pretty discouraging.

It might be nice to have distributors that can actually get things out on the supposed ship date consistently, they should be held accountable to that standard. It's not fun to be considered an afterthought.

I totally agree. If the big guys want to let us know how they do it, I'm sure we'd be happy to hear them out, as we're not exactly happy about this sort of thing happening either.

To quote myself from the XSEED forums:

OH yes. There are side quests of all shapes, sizes and complexities. I don't have the files with me to get an exact count, but I want to say there are... 80 or so? Something like that. (EDIT: I do have the files with me now, and was able to confirm it's actually closer to 60. But that's still a lot, considering how long and involved these quests can get! Which leads me to...)

And unlike a lot of games, the side quests in Akiba's Trip are actually pretty involved in a lot of cases -- there are some that are just "go defeat ___" or "go talk to ___," but others involve reuniting two lovers who are part of feuding yakuza families (Lolio and Yuriette, from the Montokyu and Capuretto families, to be exact!), defeating all 48 members of idol group AKW48, carrying a cake back to your sister without jumping or getting hit (because that'll jostle it and mess up the icing), etc.

The side quests are where the real Akiba experience is at. ;)

But yes, the game actually has a surprisingly involved story, in addition to all the goofiness. It all centers around a dying race of vampires, a pharmaceutical company and lots of backstabbing.

It's also a multi-tiered story -- your decisions during the first half of the game will change which path you follow during the second half (of four possible paths, which vary a LOT from one another), and your decisions during the second half of the game will determine whether you get the good ending or the bad ending for that path.

All in all, it's pretty good stuff. Very engaging, with characters you find yourself liking and rooting for a lot more than you might expect.

Also:

We managed to get our shipments out in advance for a change, so most stores should actually have the game tomorrow. This can never be guaranteed, of course... but you have a better chance with this game than you may have had in the past with some of our others, at least. ;)

-Tom

You sir just sold me a copy.

Edit: one final question: how big is the game world?

Popular question! ;)

To quote myself: The Japanese PSN download is around 1.7 GB, but the English version will be considerably larger due to the presence of dual voice data. Our master file is around 2.6 GB, but Sony compression on PSN usually shrinks rom sizes quite a bit, so I'd estimate it'll be right in the middle of those two somewhere -- maybe 2.2 or 2.3 GB? At the very least, it'll be no less than 1.7, no more than 2.6.

We'll be releasing at least two DLC packs every week throughout August and September (that's the plan, anyway!). All of it will be free except -- contrary to what I said before (sorry for the mix-up!) -- the character-specific swimsuits, which will be paid DLC like in Japan. How much they'll cost and exactly when they, specifically, will be released remains to be decided, and will be announced... probably right before it happens. ;)

Per popular demand, though, we're trying to get the free Genshiken DLC released on the first week post-launch. We'll keep you updated on how that turns out!

-Tom

Will the DLC be available for purchase for the PS4 version at launch?

For costumes especially I hate waiting around for DLC. If I'm finished with a game, I have no incentive to purchase a costume...(Or downloading a costume if its free).

Edit: one final question: how big is the game world?

Ah, another answer I can copy from the XSEED forums! I love questions like this. ;)

It's basically all the major outdoor sections of Tokyo's Akihabara ward... which is hard to quantify if you've never been there, but a quick Google Image Search uncovered this:

amap_s.jpg

More or less, the game's world includes all the streets that have dots all around them on this map, plus the area immediately south of Akihabara Station (which is locked at the beginning of the game, but unlocks at around the halfway point).

Will the DLC be available for purchase for the PS4 version at launch?

No, it won't... because it's on the disc from the very start! One of the selling points of the PS4 version is that all the DLC items (plus some additional PS4-exclusive items) are included from the get-go -- no need to download anything at all.

hey Tom, quick question (or anyone else that's played the game): Is it conducive to half hour bus rides? Meaning, is it structured where you can play in short bursts or save and quit instantly? I'm thinking this might be a commute game, but just want to make sure

How much is the DLC?

Only the character-specific swimsuit DLC will be paid -- everything else (including non-character-specific swimsuits, like the tiger-striped swimwear or white school swimsuit) will be free.

For the character-specific swimsuits, we haven't announced pricing just yet. Stay tuned.

That actually miiiiiight be pushing it, as some of the story battles in this game are massive brawls that could take you 20-25 minutes to complete, with cutscenes both before and after them.

If you stick to side missions during your commutes, though, and save the story missions for when you're at home, you should be OK.

The game is, fortunately, save-anywhere... but not during battle, and not during cutscenes.

Oh shit! I had no idea this is coming out tomorrow. Now to decide if I should get the ps3 or vita version.
Do what I'm doing: Get both.

Oh, and purchase the PS4 version when it's released. :)

[The more financially-viable option would be to purchase the Vita version now and, if you own a PS4, purchase that one when it's released later in the year. That way you have one portable version, and one for play on a home console.]

Adding on Tom's answer, you can always suspend and resume on the Vita. I do it all the time for all games when I'm commuting.

Couple more questions:

Is there any leveling up? Or upgradeability? Outside of equipment that I know of...

Also, I saw some wrestling moves, can you do a lot of them? Are there whole wrestling movesets?

Yes, you actually have strip skills for each individual type of clothing in the game, and it's only once these strip skills reach max level that you're able to remove the corresponding clothing item from an enemy without ripping it, thus adding it to your inventory for your own purposes.

There are also more traditional levels, but I barely paid attention to those -- you seem to level-up pretty naturally just by doing what you're supposed to do.

Also, I saw some wrestling moves, can you do a lot of them? Are there whole wrestling movesets?

Yes, and yes.

The move sets in this game are pretty extensive. And ridiculous. ;)

I was just on a trip to Tokyo a few weeks ago and I was constantly visiting Akihabara because of how much I loved it there.

Reading this thread, I'm really wanting to pick this game up now, and I never had any intent before @_@

Just wondering if the PS4 has an release date? or should I just assume sometimes in November or December ?

No release date yet. We're a little too early in the localization and submission process for it to say for sure when it's coming.

Or I could just get all three! Nahh I'll just pick up the vita version, and get the PS4 one later.

Another Canada friend checking in here, NIS seems to be able to get their games out on time when they are distributed by Atlus, so maybe see if anything can be worked out there :) (It's really not a big deal though don't stress about it too much, a week won't kill us!)

submitted a preorder :)

Just wanted to say thanks for doing such a great job at your...job and reaching out to us and answering questions directly. I really appreciate it.

Ugh, such a tough decision.

Do I get this or Disgaea 4 Vita tomorrow... Choices choices. I've been a good boy for 3 years now waiting for the Vita version, but there's something about this game leading me to think it'll be just damn great, something different at least. Maybe I should get D4 later? Hmmm....

Both
It's what I did at the last minute

Probably gonna spend some time with Akiba's Trip. Probably not as much as I would hope for when I realized that September is more stacked than I thought.

I'm thoroughly impressed by the Job Tom is doing also. Watching a random gamer live stream this game on the PS4 caught my attention and this OP with Tom doing a great job sold me on the game and I intend on getting/preordering it for the PS4.

Only in a Japanese game can you beat someone senseless and strip them of their clothes with the end result being you saving their lives in someway.

I. love. It.

I did confirm earlier, for what it's worth, that our shipments went out to Canada quite a while ago, so by all rights, the game SHOULD be on store shelves tomorrow. If it's not, we may have to start bustin' some heads. ;)

Has anyone in Canada received a shipping notice yet?

I'm actually going to purchase all three. PS3/Vita at launch, and the PS4 version when it releases.

I am determined to show this game my full support.

Can't wait to pick this up via PSN store today. Thanks for supporting this stuff Xseed! This might have been one I would have skipped but with SK:VS coming and seeing all the support you are giving the Vita I fell like I owe ya! The game does sound pretty fun too :D

To those who already have the game, post some quick first impressions, I am gonna have to wait until night time to play it... Got exams to study for during the day, but I will be fighting those vampires at night, even if only for an hour :p

Zonic

Gives all the fucks
nice job Tom

EDIT: New game, "easy, casual, gamer"

what do I pick, I'm all 3???!
Hahaha, I always enjoy unique anti-piracy messages/methods.

Picked up my Vita copy. Should be able to play it later today once I finish some stuff around the house.

Oh, & if you beat Gamer difficulty, you unlock
Otaku
