This OT is for the PS4 version of Akiba's Trip. The OT for the PS3/Vita version is here, if you want to hear fellow GAFer's impressions. The text between the two OTs is largely the same, so if you've read this before, just skip down to the new section below.

Akihabara – Japan’s own national treasure of (begrudging) sorts, serving as a hotbed for both the fantastical and the fanatical

Dubbed “Akiba” by its most devout patrons, it is the quintessential haven for rampant consumerism. Otakus – geeks of all interests, obsessions, and walks of life – treat these sacred grounds as a second home, always on the prowl for the next Gunpla figure or idol group CD. With no passion too niche and no medium underrepresented (for better or for worse), this humble district of Tokyo is truly the mecca of Japanese media – the perfect source of escapism from the troubles of everyday life.

Enter the Synthisters: a race of bizarre vampires preying on the many denizens of the district, threatening to turn every last one of them into parasitic shut-ins – otherwise known as hikkikomori to people with Japan itself. Though many would rejoice at the prospect of never leaving their homes again, those afflicted by the attacks observe all of the tell-tale symptoms of vampirism – namely, a weakness to sunlight and a bad case of irritability. With more and more attacks mounting by the day, this inexplicable race of creatures threatens to devastate Akiba’s business faster than the 2020 Olympics.

That is, if there wasn’t a group opposing them every step of the way. Lead by a bonehead who almost succumbed to an attack himself – and for the prospect of a figure, no less – the Akiba Freedom Fighters acts as the district’s final stronghold against the evil scourge. Armed with little but the ability to strip someone to their unmentionables to expose these creatures to sunlight, these heroes aim to exorcise Akiba’s populace from the inside-out. As Akiba’s last hope, if they fail, the maid cafes may disappear…forever.

ogH76lP.png

Akiba’s Trip may seem like your standard brawler, but its otaku influences have rubbed off on the gameplay in more than a few ways. For starters, the entire game is a faithful recreation of the real-world Akihabara, with the district’s essence reflected in many of the advertisements and billboards littering the virtual city. On top of that, the game features an astronomical degree of customization and collection, allowing you to fight and look however you please. You can switch your style of attack up on the fly, alternating between baseball bats, motherboards, comic books, and rocket ships alike.

Not only that, but you can assume multiple strip and movement styles, changing your running and attack animations to give your character a fresh feel. When you’re about to finish an enemy, you can then strip them of their clothes to expose them to the sunlight, purifying what ails ‘em while taking their duds for yourself. With multiple endings and divergent paths, too, Akiba’s Trip allows for a lot of experimentation, freedom, and replayability, thanks to the sheer density of love and attention poured into it.

Nanashi
Voiced by: Ryota Osaka (Japanese), Spike Spencer (English)
Tricked by the allure of a rare figure, Nanashi (whose name means “Nameless”) almost fell prey to vampire experimentation before being saved by the kiss of a mysterious girl. Now he leads the charge of the Akiba Freedom Fighters, hoping to liberate his home of their nefarious threat.

Tohko Sagisaka
Voiced by: Chiwa Saito (Japanese), ??? (English)
Though she may not know the ins and outs of the otaku lifestyle, Tohko will proudly defend their right to celebrate what they love unabashedly. As Nanashi’s longtime friend, she was among the first to join the Akiba Freedom Fighters.

Shizuku Tokikaze
Voiced by: Sachika Misawa (Japanese), ??? (English)
Rescuing Nanashi moments before becoming a full Synthister himself, Shizuku clearly has a vested interest in combatting the Synthisters. She may be the dictionary definition of “taciturn,” but there is an undeniable warmth to her actions, which motivates her to protect Akiba.

lQuFwHA.png

Soga Kagutsuki
Voiced by: Ryota Takeuchi (Japanese), ??? (English)
A mysterious individual who appeared in Akiba out of the blue. Virtually nothing is known about him.

Shion Kasugai
Voiced by: Eriko Nakamura (Japanese), Megan Hollingshead (English)
As the haughty hotty CEO of Daishihon Pharmaceuticals, Shion radiates elegance and eloquence, never wavering in confidence or certainty. She openly supports the Akiba Freedom Fighters, though with rumors of her company dabbling in the unscrupulous, this leaves many of the AFF’s members doubting her true intentions.

Rin
Voiced by: Hisako Kanemoto (Japanese), ??? (English)
Flaunting an air of dignified aloofness, Rin and her powerful vocals are set to be Japan’s next biggest hit. However, once you take the microphone away, her personality takes a turn for the squalid, becoming crasser and demanding. Not only that, but she may be hiding more than just a few personality quirks.

ygaHtCB.png

Nana
Voiced by: Aya Suzaki (Japanese), Cindy Robinson (English)
As someone so thoroughly inundated in Japanese video games and anime to the point where she talks like a character lifted from them, Nana revels in Akiba’s claim-to-fame on a daily basis. However, if you look past her referential style of speech, there’s a person who truly loves her older brother Nanashi, as a human or otherwise.

Kihachi “Pops” Sugiyama
Voiced by: Toshitsugu Takashina (Japanese), ??? (English)
As the founder of the Game Bar MOGRA, an establishment rife with delicious drinks and arcade cabinets, Kihachi has a love for Japanese media typical of someone far younger than his age belies. It is this love and support for all things Akiba that makes him offer his bar as the AFF’s primary base of operations.

Zenya Amou
Voiced by: Daichi Kanbara (Japanese), ??? (English)
Fancying himself as the crème de la crème of otaku, Zenya draws umbrage from any filthy philistines who would dare share in his own interests. When he’s not directing his ire towards the general population, however, he seems to be at home converting people into Synthisters, though his exact motivations and degree of involvement are unknown.

q. There was an Akiba’s Trip game for the PSP. What’s the deal with that?
a. This is actually the second game in the Akiba’s Trip series. However, both games feature entirely self-contained stories and different characters, so you can

start this game with no fears of missing any story details.

q. Will this game have full dual audio?
a. Yes! The game will feature complete English- and Japanese-language voice over.

q. Does this game support cross-buy/cross-save?
a. Unfortunately, no.

q. Does the PS4 version have DLC?
a. All of the old DLC is already included on the disk, and in addition, there is an additional, free DLC pack that includes additional character models and clothing. That will release within two weeks.

q. Given the game’s subject matter, was there any content cut or censored for the international releases?
a. The biggest offenders – the portraits displayed when you strip a main character – are completely intact, and in fact, this game has what might qualify as “reverse-censorship.” XSEED approached Acquire about creating additional strip portraits – this time for the male characters – so that fans of that persuasion could receive representation, too. In addition, all of the tie-in and promotional material for other franchises and media are entirely intact. However, some of the restaurants and pamphlets had information about their businesses listed in-game – things such as store hours and the like. There are a lot of issues and headaches with translating that information from a legal standpoint, so XSEED had to omit all of it, but the pamphlet illustrations and designs still remain.

New to the PS4 version are the following features:

Pre-Packaged DLC: This game includes every single piece of DLC from the PS3 and Vita versions for free.

6ErtGRf.png

Toybox: Instantly summon/change items, weapons, and costumes without needing to unlock them, right from the start of the game.

SrqeLx6.png

Visual Changer: Change the rendering options and filters for the game to change its look completely. If you're feeling adventurous, you can even make your own custom style.

UTJa6xL.png

Stream Invasion: Taking a queue from something like Twitch Plays Pokemon, PS4 players can stream their game session before a live audience. The viewers, in turn, can type specific commands into the text box to affect the game in real-time. Consult the full, colored manual for the comprehensive list of commands.

Huge, HUGE thanks to Dakkumauji for helping out with all of the graphics in the original OT. Sorry for not asking you if you wanted to help earlier, but I got blind-sided by the PS4 release and only started making the text and graphics changes about an hour ago.
That's why all of the new graphics use the Batman Forever typeface.

Should be mentioned that all the DLC from the Vita & PS3 versions are included for free in the PS4 version.

I feel like I might revisit this on PS4 once I eventually get the system and it's on sale. Enjoyed it on Vita despite the flaws, though I was able to overlook them for the most part due to how quirky this game is.

Enjoyed the PS3 version but the hiccups on the tech side bugged me. Did these things along with the load times decrease?

I really liked the PS3 version, aside from the technical issues. I'll probably re-buy it on PS4 once I work through some of my current backlog.

Seems like Best Buy isn't carrying it (they did for PS3/Vita), so much for putting my GCU to good use.

Will probably end up buying from gamefly as I've got a $5 coupon there.

The game literally came out today. I think you should give it a few days at least.

They had Persona Q this morning, they're very hit and miss on niche games.
I still say give it a few days. Persona Q is less niche than Akiba's Trip. I'm hoping it comes too because I was waiting for the PS4 version as well. Maybe XSEED people can let us know what is going on?

Yeah, I was hoping to grab this from Best Buy since I'm also a new GCU member but it wasn't up for preorder despite them having the Vita and PS3 versions.

Pretty excited to jump into this today since Xseed was good enough to announce it before the other versions came out and I decided to wait. Have heard a lot of great impressions in the PS3/Vita OT.

So is the main point/goal in the game stripping clothes off of girls or is there more to it?
Vampires of both genders, from what I've seen.

Tom from Xseed in the other thread mentioned how BB is usually slow to carry their games. Sometimes by weeks. I really hope it doesn't take that long, but I'll buy whenever I see it's available.

q. Does the PS4 version have DLC?
a. Nope! All of the old DLC is already included on the disk.

FYI, this isn't *quite* correct. All of the old DLC is indeed already included on the disc (or in the download, if you bought the game digitally), and there are new clothing items on top of that... but there actually *is* a PS4-exclusive DLC pack coming in a week or two that adds even more new character models and clothing items.

Fortunately, it will be free. And it is the one and only DLC pack that exists for the PS4 version.

Also, you might want to note under "Stream Invasion" that the full list of chat commands is available in the game's printed manual, in the game's digital manual, and also on the website. Because anyone who participates in an Akiba's Trip stream will likely want access to that. ;)

Enjoyed the PS3 version but the hiccups on the tech side bugged me. Did these things along with the load times decrease?

There are no longer any framerate stutters whatsoever -- the game runs at a buttery smooth 30fps, with "between-frame processing to create the illusion of 60fps" (not sure what that means, exactly, but I honestly thought the game was running at 60fps the entire time I was testing it, so I guess it works!).

As for load times, they're ever-so-slightly shorter, but the difference isn't too substantial. However, NPC pop-in is a *lot* faster, so there shouldn't be any more sitting around and waiting for the NPCs to load in order to find your quest target.

So is the main point/goal in the game stripping clothes off of girls or is there more to it?

You are stripping men and women alike (in pretty equal numbers!) in order to make them melt in the sun... or, if you'd prefer, just to be a jerk (so you can steal their clothes and wear them for yourself!).

There is a full story, too, with branching paths and multiple endings -- and it's actually pretty well-written, full of tongue-in-cheek humor and social satire. Despite being a stupid game, it's oddly quite smart -- it's a "smart stupid game." ;)

I like to equate it with South Park: intentionally offensive, but with method to its madness.

If I get this it will be my first PS4 game this year since I sold off Knack and Need for Speed Rivals. Looking forward to stripping people...dat fan service ;)

yeah, this version blows the other out of the water. all of the random citizens load in instantly, there were times where I'd have to stand where my mission objective was for 20-30 seconds waiting for the person to load in on the PS3 version. this time, they're there right away. load times are maybe halved?

there are some very very minor framerate stutters when you're doing chain strips, but it doesn't affect anything really. the rest of the time it seems completely rock solid. the textures seem higher res? might be imagining that?

also on the "I might just be imagining it" scale is that now that the framerate is better, it seems like counters are a little easier to pull off. but this is also my third playthrough...

Really glad XSEED brought this version over. Had no interest in a PS3 version when a PS4 version was announced.

and because of that it's so bought. :)

Glad to hear citizens load in much faster this time now. I hated how the person who you had to talk to for a mission would sometimes load in the area AFTER you looked in the spot they were suppose to be in, so you're left wandering around, wondering where the hell they are.

How frequent are the loads? Load times don't bug me much unless I'm seeing them often.
Once you're able to fast travel/instantly jump to an area that you want to go to (which isn't that long into the game), there isn't as many compared to walking through each area to get to the place you need to.

exactly. and it happened all. the. time.

and yeah the loads are still semi-frequent but you're looking at like 3 seconds max per load. I don't even have time to read the fliers on the load screens before they're gone.

Had it on Vita but only played for about 30 minutes and got caught up in other things.. Sold that version and picked it up for PS4 today. Hoping to dive into it next month.

The game's main font has reeeeaaally bad kerning and alignment issues and it's already driving me mad after only half an hour. Is this a specific issue in the PS4 version or has it always been this terrible? I honestly can't see how anyone would find this okay.

Damn it, lack of money(and not good priced PSN codes) right now is holding me back. It will be next month along with guilty gear that I get this game if they don't kill me with a vita flash sale on the PSN with titles I want this few incoming days .

Well, for a game over within like two minutes of gameplay.

More disturbing, has anyone noticed the game not fitting on their screen properly? My PS4 display settings are correct so I'm not sure why the game is so much wide than my screen. Not sure how to fix it without messing up the rest of the system

Edit: i see the game has the system screen adjustment tool linked in the swings menu. I assume this is a typical problem

I'm definitely picking this up soon. I put a lot of time into the PS3 version and loved it. It really surprised me because there's a lot more to it than the weird stripping mechanics and you can tell the developers put a lot of love into crafting the setting, characters, atmosphere, etc.

It's the same as the PS3 and Vita versions, and... I dunno, I'm not aware of any kerning issues at all. Not sure what it is you're seeing.

Anyone have a list of the stream invasion commands? Cant seem to locate them on the website

Kazama posted the screenshot from the manual, but they are also on http://www.akibastrip.com -- once it loads up, just click the PS4 version banner on the landing page. (I'd link the sub-page, but due to the M-rating age-gate stuff, I can't)

Awesome! I'll get it on friday, just waiting to see if there will be any deals on PS Plus subscription, so I'll just buy everything at once.

I really need to adjust to these controls. I keep barreling into everyone and accidentally starting fights. I should probably also ditch my monitor.

How is everyone going about chain strips? I get lucky sometimes and can chain a few articles but if I try to set it up on purpose things accidentally rip or the enemies tend to adjust. Is there a foolproof way to pull this off? Haven't seen the end chain QTE since the fight where it is introduced.

I haven't noticed any font issues but the display itself was really fucked up for me and text was going off screen until I fixed it in the game settings (altering PS4 settings wasn't doing too much). Is that the type of issue you're having?

Oh god yes, get rid of the monitor. If you can, get something like the bat (or aluminum bat is one of the best for a while) where it's more about speed. Stuff like the monitor is just so slow and will be frustrating later on, especially on harder difficulties because you'll be left open for enemies to gang up on you.

As for strip chains, I really didn't focus on them until later on when I had more powerful equipment, but what I would do is attack an enemy until their clothing would flash red or whatever, then shift focus on a different enemy to do the same, setting me up so I could strip multiple enemies at once. It's MUCH easier to do when you've got a more powerful weapon where it doesn't take as many hits.

A few examples: 1, 2, 3, 4. The random bolded "i/l"s, some "d/g"s too close to the next characters and, on the last pic, L and I almost glued together on the second "like".

Not sure if it has anything to do with it, but I have that screen area setting set to max.

Why do I keep forgetting this game is a thing?

I desperately want it as a gift but no way would my family be able to look me in the eyes after seeing the title and cover. Haha...hopefully my money situation changes after the holidays.

Uh . . . OK.

You Japanophiles can be a bit strange. Undead and Undressed?

Excuse me, but the correct nomenclature is weeaboo, sir.
