Also the best way to criticize something is to experience it firsthand.I don't think Alanah ever said that TGA is bullshit. She was just explaining how it works.
I mean of course it is. Is there really an objective way to rate games?
I don't think people will watch that and the people who watch it will just get mad at people for stating their opinions because it doesn't match theirs. I don't think people want transparency they just want their opinion reflected.a live discussion panel with live interactions by viewers where arguments for and against certain games get brought up and discussed.
in the end the panel votes based on the discussion.
not objective but it would be transparent and not just 5 or 6 seemingly arbitrary nominations.
the worst situations are always those when a game is nominated for game of the year, but somehow loses against another game in a different category, even tho that other game isn't nominated for game of the year... like how does that ever make any sense? even if we accept that it's entirely subjective
As for the last part. Which category did you have in mind? Because for example someone can think that a game had the best direction because they like the overall concept and design of the game but would pick another game for game of year because they think it's a better game overall for different reasons e.g. not as great direction but innovative, impactful, music, technical achievement, art style, story, personal enjoyment or whatever was better in their eyes. It's like how whoever gets Best Director Oscar for a movie doesn't always win best picture.
YES! 100%I missed the Game Awards. I caught bits and pieces of it but I ended up falling asleep. Was there any huge announcement that I completely and utterly missed?
At the end of the day, she will say whatever she needs to say and do whatever she needs to do to both string along her social media audience and stay in the good graces of the industry. If you haven't noticed by now, the Game Awards are a mix of protracted marketing, and a nice party for the industry's most established in both development and media to meet, network, and attract the more mainstream entities in Hollywood and music. And she isn't the only one.So she doesn't like it but still goes???
Do you need to boycott something in order to be allowed to have a critical opinion about it?So she doesn't like it but still goes???
Selling games is a popularity contest.. who is more popular sells more games.. sometimes this people think they are fucking Michelangelo instead of gamer dev n.404 doing a game that have to sell 10 million copys just to pay for the investmentA popularity contest is the most important type of contest. Particularly a popular contest with influential people as the judges.
I only come here for new Alanah pics and this page has been a disappointment.
Okami Sequel !I missed the Game Awards. I caught bits and pieces of it but I ended up falling asleep. Was there any huge announcement that I completely and utterly missed?
One reason it can happen is because games nowadays span multiple genres and they might think that it's for example not a bad RPG but not as great of an RPG as the others. For example, there are games like borderlands or Destiny that people might think of more of action games with RPG elements. Similar to how there are dramedies (drama-comedy) that make for poor comedies. The other thing that happens is just vote dilution, for some people a game on Game of Year might be nominated for best RPG but not for game of the year. Basically, you can't vote for a game that doesn't exist in a category or it's existence makes you vote for it instead of the other choices. For example an RPG you think is the best game ever can be not an option for Game of Year. Or a game you really like is an option for Game of Year which causes you to vote for that instead of what you voted for best RPG.genre specific ones specifically. like if 5 games are nominated as best RPG, and one of these is nominated as Game of the Year while the others aren't, it doesn't make sense for any other game in that category to win imo. unless you somehow say that the game was a bad RPG, which would then put into question why it was nominated as an RPG or for GOTY in the first place.
you can't lose Best [INSERT GENRE HERE] while winning GOTY imo, but it happens.
or if 2 GOTY nominations are in one genre category, one of them wins the category and the other GOTY, also wouldn't make sense.
