Alanah Pearce: The games industry is screwed 2.0

This woman never has an original thought in her head. She just says the most basic and obvious thing possible and acts like it's some mind-blowing discovery.
She's a well respected gaming insider, though.

And she has access to information that most videogame "journalists" would love to have.

The nice tits are just a bonus.

I'm not joking, I'll donate $1000 to Neogaf either through cash or gifted subscriptions to permanently ban posts about this attention whore and if not you can perma-ban me.

TL;DR: The game industry isn't as attractive to investors anymore because the explosive exponential growth from Covid didn't continue indefinitely. There are other industries that are successfully competing for user's attention and investors are investing in those industries over the gaming industry.

She is looking at this through the lens of a developer. It's harder to get funding and most big publishers chase trends to secure funding. She almost connects the dots when she mentions that a non-public studio like Larian Studios doesn't have to chase trends and they can do what they want and are successful...

But she doesn't quite get there.

She views the investor slow down as dooming the industry, but it was over investing into this industry that caused the doom in the first place. Twice as many workers don't make a product two times better and it doesn't make the product two times faster. It does make the game twice as expensive to produce though.

If your survival in this industry is based on investors keeping you afloat, you're doing something wrong. Your own success should fund your next game.
Nailed it. Glad to see I wasn't the only one who understood this.

I don't celebrate people loosing their jobs but I honestly haven't seen many layoffs at any studios that I care about and make the type of games I like. In fact most of them seem to be doing fine (hell you can add Sandfall as a new addition to the list).

Looking at only this year, nothing makes me worried that studios like Warhorse, Capcom, Hazelight, Sandfall, Koei, etc are "screwed" or we won't see new games from them.

Isn't that like 90% of gaming youtubers? It's either that or rage baiting.
I never really understood why people hate her so much. I listened to a couple of her podcast episodes (because a friend recommended it to me) and she seemed kinda normal. (if anything Troy Baker was by far the most annoying part of her podcast)

Can AI make another 100 ps1 masterpieces ? how about another 100 ps2 masterpieces ? Do whatever you want, the point is there has to be ways to trigger gamers mindsets and makes them spending on contents, the need has to be created first.

She's hot so many men and lesbians will act like her thoughts are amazingly insightful and she is very eloquent when saying them

The gaming industry is getting it's just deserts is what she clearly meant to say. AA games are returning and being massively successful (Warhammer and expedition 33), games of passion and fun like Balatro are getting recognition, big studios telling gamers what they want vs what they're asking for are flopping. I honestly couldn't be happier lol

Well the only reason she has any popularity in the gaming space is because of her looks so yes with her it's necessary
Streamers gain the attention with zero help from others, relatively speaking, when they associate gaming topics with mental health, losers have no business with her.

Just finished watching the video.

The basic tldw is that public companies is where most of the industry revenue is generated, investors dgaf about anyone but the $$$, the publisher's care is for investors and not the end consumer, that's why gaas is wanted by every publisher, there was around 5 years of over exponential growth of the games industry (which peaked during Covid due to everyone staying inside and gaming being a very interactive and fun past time to connect everyone) and started to flatten/hit the plateau for the past 2 years, and hence the layoffs.

Now the investors are trying to jump ship from gaming investments to AI driven social media, be it tiktok, facebook or wherever the engagement is highest and games cannot compete with that level of easy access, so companies like MS are making it easy for smartphone device owners (4.4 billion+ in the world totally, out of which 3 billion+ have played games) in poor countries to entice them into gaming via cloud (this is an Xbox campaign) essentially to find a new audience to entice consumer spending even more for growth.

I think troy baker can come off like a pretentious ass tbh. His head is too big for his body.
