Alex Battaglia: Stop saying your PC is fine! Demand better from developers to cut out frame stuttering on all PCs

You know the situation on PC is absolutely destitute when even its king fanboy has thrown in the towel. The facade of "the definitive edition" and "higher than console settings" has completely fallen apart in the face of frametimes which can't stay consistent to save themselves, and which manufactures seem to think fake frames will solve. Sad times.

I don't like the guy at all, but I do agree with him on this point. I think it's a little ridiculous how permissive the PC crowd is with stuttering, but it seems like they'll let just about any bullshit slide these days. That's why things have gotten as bad as they have.

As it is exclusive to PC??

Frametimes is and was always normally inconsistent on PC as people normally play with unlocked frame rates since ever. The only problem is huge frame times spikes caused by shader compilations on real time (thing that is solved with proper pre compilation) or traversal stutter (that ais an engine problem that could be solved).

lol Jedi Survivor has already received multiple patches after the initial Pro update, it's the definitive version by far.

Do any of you even play on pc? If a game has issues it'll be one of the first things standing out on its steam page through the user reviews. Any widespread problems gets pointed out by pc players there, just look at the spider man 2 release right now.

Problem is brattaglia keeps conplaining about thing most players cant even notice, or as someone pointed out in this thread he uses faulty methodologies of analysis.

Sadly, I think PC gamers are accustomed to stutter at this point because it's so common. They're also used to horrid launches.

Excluding indies, i’d say around 95-99% are 60 or higher. It’s extremely rare to find any targeting a max of 30FPS.

Edit: This is almost a year old but you get the point.

yep. One of bs people still spread about consoles. 30fps is rather uncommon and it's a choice if anything.
And another one is people stpreading BS that games are just codes on disc while like 70% of games don't even require any download and are ready to play after installing.
And then 93% of games don't require internet after you patch

Again, go look at steam reviews on most of these bad launches. What people don't realize is that often times the games that suffer from these issues aren't the most popular to begin with.

I've played plenty of PC games with stuttering and shit like that and they have positive on Steam.

This stuff is just super common on PC and part of the deal and a lot of people understand it.

Not always. With the big releases or the particularly issue-prone ones, sure. But games that are more niche naturally don't have their issues as well-documented. For example, take a game like Legend of Mana - random game from Square-Enix that has a lot of stuttering problems, but no obvious hint of that on the Steam review page. Then you dig a bit deeper, people mention in the forum and some thing Special K can fix it to an extent and... well, it's just kind of messy. I'm still on the fence about buying Robocop on PC because, while I know they patched the game, I don't know if the stuttering's still there or if it's been resolved to an extent... and it's kind of a game-breaking thing for me, personally. The point is that one should be able to buy a game with confidence that it'll work properly on a strong enough machine, and I don't think it does anyone a favor to pretend like the experience these days isn't a pretty poor one in that regard.

...but again, right or not, I really hesitate to take the same side as a dude who prances around in a dress.

Looked at the games steam page for 30 seconds:
"Mostly positive"

Scroll down to the reviews:
Multiple complaints of technical issues.

Point stands.

Googled "Robocop performance issues", half of the topics that came up involved the ps5. Doesn't seem like a "pc problem" to me which is another point i made earlier.

He’s right. On the bright side this crusade against stuttering has led to an overall reduction in shader stuttering at least, and as the biggest shader stutter culprit, UE4, is no longer used, that should help as well.
Hope to God UE6 or at least UE5.6 has 0 shader stutter at all. Right now shader stutter has been drastically reduced thanks the improved UE5 shader management tools but it hasn't gone extinct yet. UE6 should also eradicate traversal stutters but that's a harder problem to solve.
