Alex Garland to direct Elden Ring film for A24

There's literally no story to tell. Like how can you make a movie about this game even interesting to begin with considering how cryptic everything is? This is just dumb and didn't need to be made.

I ain't complaining. Could've done much worse than Alex Garland. Haven't seen a movie by him I haven't liked. Very noteworthy that I haven't seen Men.

Missed opportunity to have Paul W.S. Anderson direct a version in which Milla Jovovich and, for some reason, the Us military get transported to the Lands Between.

What?? There's a bunch of story all over this game. When digging into the lore of that universe, there's enough for several movies.

This was wildly unexpected. I'm going to have bananas-levels of hype thanks to Garland. I recently rewatched Civil War and it was so excellent. I'm so happy that we still have awesome directors like Nolan, Villeneuve and now Garland.

Are they going to do it in true souls fashion where you need to cobble the story together by reading endless snippets of random text on IMDB?

Definitely not the kind of project I expected to see Alex Garland attached to. He can be a great filmmaker though (as evident by Ex Machina, Annihilation, and from what I've heard Warfare).

Men & Civil War give me a little pause just due to how preachy and on the nose they were. That said there's pretty much nothing about Elden Ring that lends itself to preachy, tired, modern messaging so I'm not too worried. Alex Garland is an ideologue but he's smart enough to know he can only force it in stories that he can get away with it in.

Not surprised to see A24 being the one to take on the first adaptation of a FromSoft title though, their vibe fits right in with A24's art house nature. If I had to guess it's probably gonna be in the same vein as something like The Green Knight or the Northman (not A24 but similar tone).

At least on the technical level Garland will bring the sauce. Civil War and Warfare are great-looking and sounding films.

No idea how this will translate. That game(as well as the Souls games) don't exactly have a lot of dialogue. It relies super heavy on atmosphere, tone, nuance, etc.

i don't know how to react
Chris Pratt is my fave actor actually, but in elden ring it's a bit weird i think.

I'm all Elden Ring'd out at this point. I had hundreds of hours if fun so no hate. I'm just done with this particular game and the side stuff it's producing.

Good luck.

Kino incoming, what's A24 thing with video gane adaptations recently, though? First Death Stranding and now this.

I think it could be really good if they go for Evil Dead 3 vibes. Lots of nods and winks to the game too - would be disappointed if the climax of the trailer wasn't Jack Black sneering "Git Gud!" into camera. Wenches with great tits would be essential I would think - real medieval vibe.

Would quite like Dennis off Always Sunny to star with Charlie as his sidekick in a pot, but it's probably unrealistic.
