Alex Garland is on his 7th playthrough of Elden Ring

Dredd is great, i like that movie a lot. The rest is average at best and not interesting to me at all.
Video game movie adaptations have been ridiculously bad, i maybe only like Silent Hill (2006).
How the bolded could be true at the same time as the italicized is an equation beyond what I'm capable of computing. I feel like I need a cerebral upgrade to understand how someone could like the Silent Hill film, an utterly subpar film when removed from the context of being a minutely faithful adaptation of Silent Hill 1, and dislike Ex Machina, one of the most intriguing science fiction films of the past two decades. You're a fascinating individual if that's true, not gonna lie.

When we're talking about Video Game adaptations Silent Hill (2006) is one of the better ones, i'm not saying it's a masterpiece.
As for Ex Machina i don't care about it, nothing special imo.

We've come a long way with video game adaptations, and he's a good director, and he's a fan of the game, and this is an A24 production (and not Sony or Fox). This stands a chance at being a pretty decent movie.

The trailer did, the movie itself was so fucking boring.
The trailer is better than the movie. It looks fantastic and I was almost baffled by how brutally dull and unengaging it was. I felt nothing the entire runtime, was bored out of my mind and shrugged when I walked out. Was really looking forward to it too.

I KNEW IT! 😙

I always suspected it, but just couldn't put my finger on it. That despite trying, I could never get to beat and like a Dark Souls game.

Now, everything makes sense.

Even why 'people' mistakenly said 'Git gud' instead of the correct way.

Turns out you were all along just a few smart monkeys flinging shit at each other and punching a typewriter until you wrote a book, then telling people to 'Git gud uh huh ah hah'. 🙉

No wonder us normal people just couldn't beat a game designed for nasty chimpanzees. 😅

A24 are trying to go into big budget stuff after civil war. They chose a popular IP, same director, that's also well-respected but with the cryptic storytelling that their films usually have (perhaps even more). That said, I'm not sure if this will be a financial success even if it's a good movie as the entire schtick is that normies don't understand these plots (hell, most of us don't). But atleast the studio isn't completely losing its identity by choosing a generic blockbuster.

"I've leveled up and got lots of juice and uh a cool sword and stuff." - someone who has definitely beaten Elden Ring six times.

7th playthrough and he doesn't fight Radahn one on one? I'm going to call bullshit on that

28 years Later, which Garland wrote, is getting crazy good reviews, but expect audiences to be mixed. That is the typical Garland film response, honestly. He doesn't appease mass audiences with his writing. It is very unconventional and not mainstream. I feel like there are going to be a ton of gamers very perplexed by what his Elden Ring film looks like

Garland is a real g, not a fake gamer. IIRC 28 Days Later was written partly under the influence of Resident Evil and he also co-wrote DmC (and despite everything I liked it).

I liked Annihilation too, but I don't think I would put it in my top 5. What specifically about the movie made you like it that much?
It was actually my first Garland movie I saw. Checked that out on netflix because I had nothing to do at afternoon. I always loved sci-fi movies when they ask philosophical
questions. What really grasped me was this eerie atmosphere, subtle at first yet amazingly otherworldy later soundtrack - for example this scene
).

I loved that you could really interpret it in various ways - shimmer being like cancer, how we as humans change over time but still "we" are "we" etc. - check out this great video for more examples from Folding Ideas -
.

I don't know - I didn't expect anything at all and it just clicked for me so much - the ending is superb, I was always a fan of lovecraft and lovecraftian themes, add to it this amazing music score and visuals and it blew me away. Cannot understate how much I appreciate this movie for showing me Moderat :D

Add to it that Natalie Portmann is in it and voila ;d you have 10/10 from me and best movie in the last 5 years. Bought it on blu-ray instantly after watching it - even though I couldn't find polish version, I had to buy it in french xD

Need to read books one day,.

You should really try to read Roadside Picnic then, because movie is inspired more by Strugatsky novel than an original book

Ah yes, Elden Ring has 'too much content.'

What a tragedy. Imagine a game giving you hundreds of hours of exploration, lore, and build variety, disgusting, right?

I'll never understand the constant complaints about games being "too big." Like… you bought the game because it looked fun, right? Now suddenly it's a problem that it lasts?

Not every dungeon hits the same, sure, but the sheer variety in builds, paths, and outcomes makes it one of the most replayable games out there.

If anything, it gives players the freedom to choose what they want to engage with. That's a strength, not a flaw
it's a common complaint.
I find souls games way more replayable.

Look. You could have the biggest budget, best directory possible, real fans making it, the stars align, etc.

But at the end of the day, this is the exact type of game that doesn't translate.

I cannot imagine it being even remotely faithful to the source material while also being good. They'll have to change a lot and then it's not Elden Ring.

This movie could turn out to be The Room levels of bad and Geoff will still give it adaptation of the year and game of the year at TGA.

The Beach is still in my top 5 books of all time, I think Garland is a fantastic writer, but I have a hard time imagining that you can write a proper script based on this game, on the other hand we don't know how much lore he may get from GRRM that isn't in the game.

This reminded me I've not played it for more than a year. Just loaded my save, I'm lvl 103 and I don't know where I am, what I'm doing and where should I be going.

I've forgotten so much of what I've done. I think I was in a quest of some sort, for some moon queen or something. The map is pretty revealed, it just feels absolutely impossible to jump back in. The last thing I remember is I defeated a sorceress or some such in some library tower, another sorceress turned into a ball of faces and I'm wearing a weird tall pointy hat. I think it's the outfit of the sorceress I killed.

What's the easiest way to figure out what I should do next, since there's no quest log?

he'll probably do his own thing loosely using lore, which is for the best tbh
agreed "the beach" is fantastic debut novel "lord of the flies" for a whole new generation.

A film director, with a decent filmography, that will direct the Elden Ring adaptation. He also happens to be an avid gamer, who worked with Ninja Theory on Enslaved and DmC.
Oh I own those. And the 28 days later series. lol should have done my research.
Still I don't think Elden ring needs a movie. Kinda goofy.

I hope he takes inspiration from this film, it's one of my favorites. And I definitely got a Dark Soul Vibe while watching it
That's what I want too. I didn't think the green knight went as wild as other a24 films so I was a little disappointed but it's really good. The a24 aesthetic is what I want

Need to read books one day,.

One of my favorite authors of the last decade is Jeff van Der Meer. The series is great and confusing. I like his other books even more- Borne and dead astronauts are great and mostly standalone.

Joe Abercrombie, Matt dinniman, nk jemisen, and vandemeer are all great authors from this century if you like my recommendations

Yeah for me it was just perfect all around.

I'm hoping to start the Southern Reach Trilogy this year

As for the other Sci Fi Trilogy I want to read for thus year is called Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky. I heard that this author is really good

Joe Abercrombie, Matt dinniman, nk jemisen, and vandemeer are all great authors from this century if you like my recommendations

I read the first book of The First Law last year and loved it. I'm planning on reading Book 2 and Book 3 this year

Watching 28 Years Later tomorrow, hopefully it's good. Definitely a good sign when the writers themselves are into the content.
