The man knows his cheese.

I was trying to think of what his top three would be, and it's like, 99c rental paradise

AvP
Event Horizon
Resident Evil Afterlife?

Does that last one just barely nudge out Mortal Kombat? I think it might. But jesus, look at the pinnacle of this man's mountain of turds. Behold it. The filmography in which Alien vs. Predator is the shining star. The dingle on the berry.

behold

It's definitely a Resident Evil movie. I have a soft spot for the first one, but Afterlife is a good candidate as well. Anderson knows exactly the type of filmmaker he is. He cranks out these $60 - $80 million dollar B movies that wallow in being B-movies. He tosses in ridiculous ideas and images, like steampunk Three Musketeers. But he also brings an undeniable sense of directorial style and vision to the table. Everything is so slick and he puts every dollar up on screen. He's not making massive blockbusters, but he approaches his B-movies like they could be.

I will not allow myself to get excited about this. I will watch the trailer immediately and no doubt see this in theatres regardless of reviews but I must remain at 0% hype.

Can't wait for somone to make a trailer thread tomorrow "Searched: Alien Covnant Trailer, didn't find anything.
chest burst me if old

In terms of the geography, though, there are a decent amount of locales. There are the various parts of the Engineer installation, and then the Prometheus itself, which was actually made as one set (though with many layers stacked on top of each other) on the 007 sound stage. It's insane to me that they actually built all of that shit, and I think the good will from that heightens the experience for me.

Building better worlds.

I love how Scott Riddle makes atcual setz.

Prometheus is one of the few films that has made me genuinely roll my eyes repeatedly while I was sitting in the cinema.

- the reveal that Weyland is Vickers' father
- the Space Jockey being retconned to 2/3 of the original size
- the reveal that the Engineer has a 100% DNA match with humans
- David somehow being able to understand Engineer speech
- Vickers not being able to run sideways
- a scientist removing his helmet in an alien atmosphere
- another scientist petting an alien snake despite being scared to death of aliens a few minutes earlier
- the guy with the map (and robots to scan the area) is the guy who gets lost
- opening the door to Fifield (who they know is dead)

The script is just complete drivel, the characters don't seem to have any critical thinking skills (despite being scientists) and many plot details are nonsensical. The only character who behaves in a comprehensible way is David, he is a psychopath who despises humanity and yet he ends up being the only likeable one, I probably would have unleashed the black goo on those morons if I were him.

Most films will have glaring flaws and dumb moments if you disect them like cinemasins. The original alien even has similar ones to those you posted.

Despite its flaws I really like things Prometheus did, particularly the thematic elements, visuals, acting, interesting characters, the intrigue and mystery, the engineers the mythological symbolism. I can understand why people didn't like it, I just dont agree with the numerous hyperbole surrounding the film in every alien thread.

I think one of the reasons people are so sour on it is partly due to the marketing setting people's expectations who wanted a traditional alien like film, but it went for a very different direction. I hope they don't pull the same bait and switch with covenant.

I love that it's a Christmas movie.

Hard to hate on it this time of year.

CHRISTMAS MOVIE.

It makes so much sense that the trailer to the sequel drops tomorrow.

This. I think people (including myself) were so starved for a GOOD Alien movie that my expectations of Prometheus were skewed. This was helped by the marketing AND the hype of Ridley Scott directing. I enjoyed it a little less than I thought it would, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I think this movie is going to get those expectations right.

Is this in the future? She has the same RCO on her rifle that we use on ours. Seems like they would have something a little better by this time.

I'll agree that Promethus was a shit show but I'm really hyped for this reading from reviewers who managed to see the sneak preview:

SPOILERS

Collider :

This world is very different from the planets in Prometheus and other Alien films because it’s a lot more like earth in terms of environment. There are forests and fields and lakes, which probably makes it more habitable for humans to live there, but also more prone to alien life. Now, mind you, these clips mainly showed the aftermath of some of the crew who had landed on the planet as some of them had clearly been infected with the eggs, as we got to see these new breed aliens escaping from their hosts in particularly gory fashion.

The first example of this is a scene that involves two of the film’s female actors and an unidentified male actor who has an alien inside him. We see that his back is being punctured from inside by a number of spikes, which turns out to be the new Neomorph, who eventually bursts out of him. We could see that it’s quite adorable as a baby even though it has this spikey tail we haven’t seen on previous incarnations. As it happens, one of the women has been isolated in the room with her now dead colleague and before she can get out, the alien kills her, too. (That recent picture of the blood-splattered window? That was from this sequence.)

One thing leads to another and then that lander explodes, killing the other woman as she comes out with her body on fire as some of their crewmates return to the lander. Apparently, a man they’re bringing back with them has also been “infected,” but the Neomorph he’s hosting doesn’t bother exploding out of his body but rather climbs back up his throat and explodes out of his mouth, basically blowing his head up in the process.

Sounds gross, but I'm kinda interested. It seems like they're taking ideas from Gibson's Alien 3 script, which was essentially a mix between Alien and The Thing.

Nothing in Alien comes close to the dozen moronic turns in Prometheus.

Yeah, no.

The problem is people expected a competent script and story, not that the plot didn't perfectly match the structure/genre of Alien.

I really liked Prometheus, but I'll never defend it.

It's bad, but in ways I can forgive.

It's good in ways that really light up those pleasure centers in my brain.

I'm 100% on board for Covenant.

To be honest Alien or any of its sequels really didn't do anything for me, so I'm hoping this is more akin to Prometheus then the other films.

I know some people don't want it too. But no joke, if this can recreate some of the feel from the original Alien, i'll be so there. I didn't mind prometheus for what it was. But I really just didn't like the look of it. For being a prequel, it felt way too advanced. Even when you factor in all the Weyland Yutani Money.

The marketing did not set it up like a traditional Alien movie at all. It was set up to an epic, intelligent science fiction film that would greatly expand on the mythology hinted at in the original films. And it ended up being dumb as shit. Only the beginning of the film has any sense of grandeur.

The Martian was a return to form for Ridley so I'm a tiny bit hopeful for Covenant.

Everyone on GAF likes to say the Prometheus sucks, but barely anyone can actually tell you why they dislike it. I think it's just one of those things that is cool to dislike on the internet.

Personally, I thought it was a really fun movie. I'm looking forward to this one.

What happened to the main character from Prometheus? Is that new actress playing her role now?
I haven't clicked on spoiler tags in here so I'm not sure if it'll be addressed in this film or not. The new actress is a different character. Different ship. Different crew.

My assumption is that they will cross paths at some point.

LOL, the problems with the movie are not obscure. Like if you want but don't be ridiculous and blame 'the internet'

What happened at the end of Prometheus? Everyone blows up and it's the classic sci fi our hero is off to explore the universe thing, right? Or is she also carrying the virus? I honestly can't remember.

The movie has been criticized to hell and back. People tore the movie apart bit by bit and I'm sure there are more than a few threads with posters detailing their criticisms in great detail.

That Prometheus trailer spoils so much. I'm tempted to go blind for this one. All the hype will probably get to me though. It always does

We might be the only two lol. 👊

You're not alone.

I'm first in line to shout 'RUN TO THE LEFT CHARLIZE! RUN TO THE LEFT!!!' But it was such a visual feast, and Fassbender's David was so watchable I can't not like it, and it's one of my most re-watched movies.

Iirc, Shaw has the intent to use David to pilot a ship to the Engineer planet so she can ask why they decided to kill them [humans].

It's likely the ship they take will have goo in the hold.

That's not true whatsoever, some guy did a bullet point list just last page and that was only about half my complaints.

You could probably pop in to any LTTP thread about the movie and find similar issues, it's hardly some unknown criticism. RLM also tore it to shreds in one of their videos, and I watched it immediately after I saw the movie and thought every complaint there was spot on.

Here's the RLM video, it's only 4 minutes long but brings up a shitton of complaints

I forget which Prometheus trailer it was, but I stopped watching after like 30 sec or so because it had already shown what seemed to be stuff that shouldn't be in a trailer. Hate when trailers (for any film) get cut like that. Should come with a spoiler warning or something haha

Only thing I can applaud Prometheus for is visuals; sure, everything looks a bit too clean which is a huge departure from the fantastic grimy look of the previous films.

But yeah, visually great...but that story, so bad. What a fucking disappointment of a film.
