So, this doesn't follow the rest of the Noomi Rapace storyline from Prometheus? I mean, I know that movie wasn't great, but geez, I thought we were going to follow her to the engineer/space jockey planet.

Am disappoint.

It does.

It does, there's been nothing that said otherwise

Just looked at IMDB and Noomi isn't listed in the cast. But I guess I'll withhold further judgment until we know more.

Deadline broke the scoop back in June she's in it but Fox won't confirm to keep it a surprise since she only has a small role.

Folks have seen the movie in test screenings and confirmed she's in it.

Okay, I will take your word for it and speak of it no further.

She makes a brief cameo from what I read.

So... Where is Noomi Rapace?
She was recasted with Katherine Waterston
Or is a different character?

The absence of evidence isn't evidence. Just because she wasn't seen in the trailer doesn't mean she won't be featured in the film in some capacity. Anyway Katherine Waterston is "Daniels" according to Google

I think the alien design itself should have been redone for a reboot

I'd simplify it heavily to look less like a toy and more like a meaty, muscular land dwelling sea creature with gray skin.

you can never take comments posted on gaf too seriously. Gaf lives in its own little bubble when it comes to this kind of stuff

Boy! Have I missed how GAF always says GAF has the typical GAF opinion from someone on GAF. GAF..you so crazy!

GAF! Also, liked the trailer..like some other people on GAF.

😃

"Music by Jed Kurzel"
What?

Harry Gregson-Williams was initially selected as the film's composer, but confirmed in November 2016 that he was no longer involved in scoring Alien: Covenant. Gregson-Williams summarized the reasons for his departure from the project as a mixture of scheduling and creative issues, stating that "schedules and one's expectations of scoring a film don't always fit and this one wasn't going to work out."

The source material is irrelevant. Blade Runner wasn't recognized as an instant classic upon its release. Early crititcal reception was mixed at best. It didn't find its audience until people got to live with the film for years and consider its themes.

Prometheus appears to be on a similar trajectory.
This is a terrible comparison considering the original Blade Runner cut had some very dumb elements.

Prometheus ain't on a trajectory for anything but people talking themselves into settling for less.

Has anyone talked about how the aliens seem to be oriented around the spinal column now instead of the chest? The tail of the xenomorph at the end resembled a spine more than it normally does.

...

So that's the Engineer's home world?

David is the only surviving member from the end of Prometheus?

Intriguing stuff; good trailer.

Yea, that was odd.

Probably a new type of Xenomorph.

I don't even understand. Cinematography is like the only thing Scott has going for him nowadays and he can't even manage that correctly now.

He is in his 80's. Give him some credit. And I think Promethius and The Martian are great looking films.

Yeah, this goes along with what the rumors stated. This movie has a new take on the xenomorphs called Neomorphs, which explode out of people's bodies and are essentially human/alien hybrids.

I'm going to watch it just for some straight up horror Xenomorph action from Scott again, that should entertaining regardless of the quality of the rest of the film. This will most likely be watched as a rental unless the reviews are good, but I don't have much faith for this being anywhere near the quality of the first two films. To be honest, I kind of doubt it will top Alien 3, but I'd like to be surprised.

Why would you go out onto an alien planet without an anti-environment/biological suit? Dunno why that takes me out of it so much but it does, haha. (Also they like gave up the whole plot with the black...thing?)

Kind of the same problem I had with Prometheus, you'd not go onto an alien planet with a giant fishbowl on your head. You'd be in some bullet-proof, anti-environment super-suit... but then the whole plot wouldn't have been able to happen, I guess.

Because the Planet can sustain life?

Oh good call. Here I was thinking Blade Runner was a widely recognized sci-fi cult favorite which found its audience later in life. But I guess it had "dumb elements" so that invalidates the above.

Whatever point you're trying to make beyond not liking Prometheus is incomprehensible gibberish.

Really?

But the alien at the end is not a Neommorph, it's probably a classic alien that comes from the eggs chestburster. The Neomorph's origin is probably the spores we see at the beginning of the trailer in the forest. So yeah, at least two different kind of aliens I guess.

Ed, I dunno. Another movie of 'crew of ship land on unknown planet. Don't know what's out there. It's the Alien and they die.'

Maybe it's because I only re-watched the original a few days ago, but this just feels like too much of a boring retread.

The alien in the shower sex scene was so stereotypical, that was a disappointment. Other than that it looks good.
