Alien Covenant Trailer Released

This criticism doesn't hold much water now considering we have shows like Game of Thrones, True Detective, Sherlock, and Mad Men showing you can TV shows almost indistinguishable from movies.

Game of Thrones

TV shows almost indistinguishable from movies.

You picked a kinda bad example there. Compare GoT to Scott's own Kingdom of Heaven (or most competently made period movies to be honest) and it comes up short. But yes, TV shows overall have looked great for a long time now.

While I definitely don't think AC looks made for TV -that's ridiculous- I do believe this trailer and Prometheus don't hold a candle to the visuals of the original Alien.

Saw the trailer, read the spoilers. Meh. You would of thought the 'creation' of the species would include the Queen at some point.

I'd 100% expect to see that lore explained in Covenant as at this point (judging from trailers) you got full blown xenos. So I'd like to see the reproductive structure of their species delved into.

As the aliens are extremely intelligent right? Worker bees that find hosts for the face huggers to latch onto. Then protect the hive and queen.

It didn't but it didn't try to, that's what they were saying.
I think reversing the trope of the female being in a position of disadvantage against the attacker for sexual tension and instead putting the males in that position and impregnating them with a penis monster can be considered a "social message"

I don't even know what the timeline is for this series. I also don't understand why they marketed Prometheus as a separate movie. What's the order to watch these movies?

Spot on man. Scott was a fucking artist in the 70s and 80s

Looks OK... I don't know because it seems a lot of the same old take on scenes we have seen.

The locked in the room scene we have seen.

The shower scene.

I don't know just feels from the trailer it's far too safe. I know they are trying to tie Prometheus to Alien but it seems like they are really treading over old ground, especially the female character that looks like Ripley, even the outfit. Its either a homage or they genuinely have no balls to make it someone else.

Weaver was awesome in the Alien trilogy, I couldn't think of another actor who could have made it so badass, but since her each one has fallen flat.

Still Prometheus was the best film since Aliens so I have hope.

Pretty uninteresting and the music made it sound like a trailer for fucking Hunger Games or something. And assuming the leaks are true...
Engineers create man, man creates android, android creates the xenomorph from the first film? Mystery solved!
Just... ugh.

What about the predator films??

I've only seen Predators & Prometheus.
Never watched any Predator films outside of Predators tbh, haven't even watched AvP I just kinda assumed the AvP films were non canon and outside of that the two series aren't connected.

If you haven't really seen Alien before then i suggest you watch Alien/Aliens first then go back and watch the other stuff as they're the "originals" and highly regarded as the best, but they're two very different films.
People are divisive of Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection is generally regarded as trash so I haven't seen that one either, but if Blomkamp gets his way that's getting written out if the Canon too along with Alien 3.

But the list I posted above is the chronological film timeline, but it's getting pretty confusing.

That Ripley shot is one of my favorite shots in all of cinema

You watch Alien.

You watch Aliens.

You don't need to watch anything else.
Correct.
Timeline is Prometheus>Covanent>remaining two sequels>alien>aliens>alien 3
You forgot Resurrection and the AVP films :p
What about the predator films??

I've only seen Predators & Prometheus.

awful and non-canon

the only good Predator movie is the first one and even that is fucking amateur hour compared to Alien or Aliens.

Looks like the ending of Prometheus was just a bullshit tease that won't be followed up on or followed up on minimally

Yeah I was looking forward to a sequel which followed what she did with the engineers more. Even if the first movie wasn't great, it was interesting and tantalizing what could have come next.

I guess they'll have to address it somehow.

Oh god Exodus was wiped from my mind until it was brought up in this thread. There couldn't be enough hyperbole in the world that could describe how bad that film was.

I watch some of my favorite movies 10 times in a single week.
I can't tell if this is a parody or not. I love movies, I go to the theater at least once a week and I took multiple film classes in college despite not being required for my major or minor but I don't even like rewatching movies that much amyway, let alone that much. I pretty much only rewatch movies on purpose if it's been several years since I last saw it and I forgot about the major plot points.

People are different. Surprise

I don't even think they'd bother because I'm pretty sure no one takes them seriously anyway.
Blomkamp's concepts for Alien 5 have Ripley and Newt in them which would undo those two movies and fox was going to let him do it before Ripley decided to step in and make even more Alien films.

It's not. One time I didn't have internet for a week so i just watched Scott Pilgrim a bunch, and there are other movies I'll throw on often like the original Mad Max, but I'm no film expert or anything.

It feels like the reception for Prometheus made them panic and shift way back towards classic alien

Something about it just seemed bland, like a trailer editor attempted to merge the less horror aspects of Prometheus with Alien's haunted house in space and came up with that. It definitely felt like it was trying to hit all the usual tropes we'd expect: alien rape allegory, egg opening up, creepy android, explosions on space ships, smoke and fog/steam and grungy space truckers.

I mean, Scott has been off his game for a while, and Prometheus was... at best interesting. I'm just not sure he understands why Prometheus failed, it wasn't because it was more sci-fi action than horror film and this trailer seemed to be trying harder to be that. I'm open to him trying again, but he's got an uphill battle to overcome if I'm going to need an entire series of films between Prometheus and Alien to do what Prometheus could have done in one had it been better.

I'm still not sure I understand why people hated Prometheus. The characters doing dumb things seemed like a minor nitpick to me that without the HonestTrailers video going viral, most wouldn't have noticed those moments. The film was a box office success, reviewed well and scored well within audiences, it's really just the vocal few controlling the conversation. Scott making more of Prometheus just makes sense, considering it was the most financially successful Alien film ever and reception was fairly positive.

But to me, this looks way more Alien than Prometheus

I've watched Aliens over 100 times easily. Shrug

Oh jeez. It looks like a remake of Alien. Why is every sequel nowadays feel like a committee went down a series nostalgia checklist and then wrote the new parts as an afterthought?

Prometheus just had too many dumb script choices for its own good. I don't hate it, I actually quite enjoy it, but it's got issues.

I read up on the 4chan leak. It's a very lazy and by the number script that doesn't answer questions.

However I may check it out for
Facebender vs Facebender action.

I'm not. These prequels are hollow cash grabs tbh, part of what made Alien great was the mystery of it. Not knowing anything about the engineers let your imagination run wild as to how and why they look like they do, and who they are. Ominous and terrifying.

I'm with the poster you quoted. Some people love having something said definitely as opposed to having something shrouded in mystery. I feel like the xenomorphs are a lifeforms that needs to have its origins detailed. I guess when you truly consider it, it has to be something that was artificially created. What organism can survive such extremes as it can and rapidly adapt to any environment it encounters? If it is some naturally occurring creature, I'd be very shocked.
