It's never gonna get made, and no matter how bad Covenant looks, his Alien 5 is almost guaranteed to be at least 2x as dumb.

Yup!

I heard Elysium was real bad, though I found Chappie to be quite nice honestly. Still, if Neill gets to make that Alien film, I hope it'll be his return to his best form.

Glad to hear that documentary is in the 4 disc blu ray, thanks Bobby.

Yeah, and Ridley will likely nail most of that, so, I'm in!

Here's hoping for the best :D (On a side note, your avatar = one of my favorite games of this generation)

Lol. Amazing analogy.

That's what I am doing with the Alien and Star Wars franchise lately and its paying off

You weren't too fond of The Force Awakens?

Either way there will always be people that complain about something. People complained about Prometheus for not being an Alien movie (among other things) and now they are giving us a full on Alien movie and people still complain.

You get rid of those classic Alien tropes and its too different for people. You keep the classic Alien tropes and they have suddenly run out of idea's because its the same stuff, even though there is actually some new idea's in here, like the new type of Xenomorph (back burster)

I'm really not worried about anything here though and as a big Alien fan, I'm still really looking forward to getting a new Alien movie and also seeing what David has been up to since Prometheus.

Very well said.

If you liked Chappie, then you will probably like Elysium too, its about on par with it. I never got the hate really, while they are not great like District 9 was, they are still alright action / Sci-Fi movies, there are certainly worse movies out there. Its the typical case of people on the internet having no middle ground, if its not great, its total shit.

If he does get to make his Alien movie, Ridley Scott was going to produce it, so between them, I'm sure they could come up with something half decent.

I thought the trailer was fine, although I'm not one of these people who thinks every movie has to push the envelope.

Alien, Aliens and Alien Isolation (yep, Isolation is that good) are the high points of the franchise and if nothing ever reaches those highs again then it's honestly OK. At this point all I'm really looking for is a satisfying, well made and "good" Aliens movie, and this trailer mostly hits the spot for me in that regard.

What classic Alien tropes are there anyway?

You mean in the trailer or the series?

Facehugger bursts from egg, Xenomorph bursts from dude, Xenomorph stalks and kills crew

probably Weyland-Yutani interested in xenomorph at expense of crew

(alleged covenant spoiler)
Xenomorph v Ripley

Decided to watch it cause it doesn't deserve a movie blackout. Looks stupid. Same crap as Prometheus except it can't hide it.

I wanted to be hyped about this, but I can't... it looks so generic. They should just let the IP die.
To be fair, it looks generic because the first two movies set the standard for this kind of movie. Maybe, just maybe, this film might push the envelope again and that this is just a poorly cut trailer.

Wouldn't be the first time a trailer is deceptive lol

Trailer looked pretty cookie cutter but damn, that synopsis puts you right to sleep. Crew goes to distant, unexplored planet only to find a threat they have to escape from......sounds far too familiar.

I guess I should have expected that GAF would hate Michael Fassbender's only good movie, but honestly you all have surprising preferences to me.

This is an interesting take.

Minimum Good movies Fassbender's Starred In:
Inglorious Basterds
X-Men First Class
A Dangerous Method
Shame
Haywire
X-Men Days of Future Past
12 Years a Slave
Slow West
Frank
The Light Between Oceans

Some people might count 300, Steve Jobs, and the Counsellor in there as well. I don't know that I would (maybe Jobs). Never saw Jane Eyre or Fish Tank.

But the idea Prometheus is the only good movie he's been in is... weird.

Bobby you would actually probably really love Frank.

Back on-topic, I agree with Hex that trailers are just completely disconnected from films these days. I'm open to the possibility that Covenant could suck, but I'll wait to see it myself before I decide it does suck.

I was about to tag quote to ask why you, of all people, would be surprised! When did you stop being Mr. Negativity?

I guess Frank isn't terrible. And 300 is good fun.

Years ago, buddy.

I cannot understand your opinion regarding Fassbender. While I have not seen Frank, I do not care for 300.

So question does this have a smaller budget from promethues just the feeling I get from it. I'll probably like it but from a first impression it doesn't really get you hyped.

Counting 300 as a Michael Fassbender movie seems like a reach to me. I mean, yeah, he's in it, but he's not owning any bit of it.

Re-watching the trailer, this really feels like a series that is out of ideas. Another crew landing on a planet to find another one of those ships, another egg chamber, another face-hugger, another android, more women fleeing down long metal hallways, more alien stalking. This stuff stopped being scary after Aliens. That the shower scene at the end is both a horror movie trope and re-uses the tail-between-the-legs from Alien is just depressing. It's easy to forget - or not even know, if you grew up after Aliens came out - but this series used to be really scary and kinda fucked up. They're so iconic now, but the designs in Alien were incredibly....well, alien. Strange and new and unsettling.

There's NONE of that here. It's so out of ideas that they have to resort to showing a bunch of character deaths just to elicit some sort of reaction. It's just sad at this point.

This is my thought as well. I think the Alien well has dried up.

Really liked the trailer. Gonna remain cautiously optimistic after Prometheus.

But what the fuck was with that ending shower scene. Ruined the whole trailer for me.

Trailer is more pleasing now after 'meh' first impressions on release day. It's the shower scene at the end that leaves a bitter aftertaste.

I want to see this movie more for the Engineers and their home planet than I do the Xenos. I really do hope the movie gives us that at least

The problem here is that no one knew WTF a Xenomorph was in the first film. Not even the synth. If WY knows, then half the stuff that happens in Alien is just downright stupid, especially for a company with a profit motive.

Instead of making a new thread I figure I can ask it here. At what point did people realize and/or accept that Prometheus was an Alien prequel?

Was it before the film came out? After the first showing and people saw the final act? I know there was confusion if it was or not leading up to its release but I don't remember if there was a point where it was firmly decided. Or if there was a point like that.

Before the name was revealed it was announced as a prequel. Then there was some confusion and Ridley said it wasn't a prequel. Then later it was "technically not a prequel but takes place before Alien in the same universe."

I think that was the final answer, and all of that was out in the open prior to release.

People knew beforehand. The confusion was down to cryptic comments about it having DNA of Alien (think about that in hindsight BTW) and hints it might not be quite the clear prequel initially announced.

This was down to fact it started as straight prequel in that it had classic creatures in it. Then they moved away from that and the messaging got confused for a while.

Trailers, imagery and the same alien ship in evidence made it clear it was in the same cinematic Universe and still a prequel.

I guess they decided the more vaugue creature connections were a mistake as it seems classic creatures (and more obvious Alien branding) are very much front and centre this time around.

It was answered well before the movie was released, the confusion came from the nature of that answer. It seemed sort of wishy-washy and vague. They wanted to avoid specifics and spoilers so they only made vague statements about how it was connected.

I dont know how much the average Working Joe knew, but most people talking about it on the net got the picture. That it was set in the same universe and took place before Alien, but wouldn't necessarily be directly connected to the same storyline.

Those that took the answer at face value understood it well enough and waited for elaboration from the movie itself. Those that tried to force specifics out of vague statements got their brains tied in knots.
