Aliens Versus Predator Official Thread of Interspecies Carnage and Bill Paxton Quotes

AVP2 was a monolith game, and vastly better then anything rebellion's put out to date.
i am a huge monolith fanboy. AvP2's SP was not as good as the originals.

install finished! it's geekish DX9/DX11 comparison time!

those tessellation youtube videos were amazing, it seems it does everything, characters and the maps, and adjusts the level of detail to increase the detail in the things that are right infront of you, to the point where there are more polygons than pixels...

the early marine stuff looks cool but it sounds like that is only the first 3rd of it? :( i don't think they have shown the single player jungle/temple stuff yet but i guess the jungle isnt nearly as dark as the start of it :lol

You know, I'm really struggling to understand why SEGA are only handing out the 360 version for review when clearly the PC version is looking to be considerably better.

Probably has something to do with their decision to use steam as DRM. Have any steamworks-exclusive game gotten advance reviews? I'm not sure how that would work.

Fuck you guys, as a straight up action/gore-porn flick AVP:R is great ='(

I'm really torn between putting money down for this or the limited edition BC2 pre-order on steam.

Buy this for 360 so we can coop

Wow at the people with an agenda against this game. It's awesome.
yeah i know, the nerve of just about every press outlet saying it's not good, or is it just "People who disagree with me have an agenda?"

I haven't heard a single respected outlet say anything good about this game. I know the defense force will immediately jump out and thrash the credibility of anyone who speaks ill of AVP, but whatever.

Also, speaking of the lovely Kane and Lynch Gamespot debacle, Gerstmann already had some not so nice things to say about it on Twitter during his review run.

"Haven't finished it yet, but so far Aliens vs. Predator's been kind of bad. Marine campaign, anyway, is lifeless."

I'm going to go ahead and disagree, the Alien portion alone (going through the lifecycle) was better then just about anything in AVP1

I don't care what any reviewers say about any game, my opinion is the most important to me. As far as I'm concerned any review is just that reviewer's opinion about the game. So if the reviewer doesn't like it, of course the game is going to get a crap score.

As for me, well, UPS dropped my copy off a few hours ago and I've been playing it non-stop now. A few missions into the Pred's story and I'm loving the game. It reminds me so much of the original AvP on PC, and that is a good thing.

Such a great nostalgic feeling this game gives off, with pretty graphics. :)

Odd, because Section 8 had even more mixed reviews, and the lows were more often than the highs...
Yeah I know. That's probably why I didn't get it when it came out.

Like I said I still plan on getting AvP, just not right away.

So, with everything turned up full I get 30 - 40 fps in these two quick games of survivor... and it looks crazy good. here's the first batch of DX11 screens along with the settings menus.

I picked up my copy first thing this morning and I just finished the Marine campaign. It was so much fun. I think the atmosphere was perfect, and the enemies were a lot of fun to fight. I also really enjoyed listening to the audio diaries. They add a lot to the game. I was surprised that there were so many, considering that the campaign is a bit on the short side. I am both excited and dreading going through on nightmare difficulty. I hope this game sells really well, because the devs deserve it, and because I want to get a bunch of DLC in the future. Off to start the Predator campaign. :D

Watch out, your bound to get accused of being apart of the AvP defense force with talk like that! :lol

BTW I finished two of the marines levels. How many more does he have? I'm doing all the campaigns at once so I beat a level, go to the next species, beat a level, and on and on.

Game Crazy won't give me a copy because I didn't pre-order and Walmart is still stocking their shipment. Fuck, I don't feel like driving all over town, and calling these places sometimes takes forever.

Marine has 6, the other two are 5 each.

Not having much luck finding mp games yet. Ended up in a domination game as a marine with a single alien and just ended up chatting about how no one is playing. :lol
Everyone's still downloading or playing SP I guess.

Option for dedicated servers is there with a beta notice but they don't seem to be working yet.

Anyone else having an issue where your explosions and shots are not showing up in game? I'm getting the impact, but no visible explosions.

Just did the first mission for each race. Marine was pretty good, Alien was fun, and I liked the Predator tutorial. Right now, I peg it at average, but obviously still got alot more play to go.

But I will say the technical issues are bugging the shit out of me. Locks up when I run in DX11, though I have a DX10 card. Even at DX9, I've had to lower Textures and still get little pauses in gameplay every couple of minutes. A little bit more so with the Alien. The game feels more than a little rushed.

EDIT: Answered my own question. Turned off V-Sync and not only did DirectX 11 mode work, but missing effects and graphics turned on. Hell if I know why. So if you're having a problem with the graphics, turn OFF V-Sync in game.

Not sure if I notice the tessellation, but the lighting is certainly nicer and more natural in DX11.
it isn't tessellating the hands... but it's definately tesselating the aliens... it's just very hard to get a screenshot of them in the same place!

i take about a 20 fps hit to turn on 4xAA, advanced shadows and tesselation. in single player 20 - 45 fps.

Just as a heads up, the Nvidia control panel profile/nHancer profile doesn't have the appropriate .exe's. Once I added them, my performance nearly doubled. Sorry if someone else already mentioned this.

In regards to what? Are you forcing certain optimizations?

If anyone's having framerate problems with multi gpu setups turn off "reduce mouse lag." I get a perfect 60fps now.
Played a 3 player survivor game earlier. Really fun stuff.

I have to say, steamcloud is great in theory, but the fact that it doesn't save locally is pretty ridiculous. The cloud was down for a bit and when I started up it didn't have any of my progress or settings saved.

Did anyone get the LE at Gamestop today? When I picked up my copy this morning, the girl said that they only got the RE, and that I would have to try back tomorrow if I wanted the other version.

That is very strange, since it is suppose to save locally. I know for other games (Trine, Serious Sam HD, Team Fortress 2, Left4Dead, etc.), the stuff that is uploaded and downloaded from the Steam Cloud servers are also available locally.

It might be a poor implementation of the Cloud though and you should probably post something about it on the Steam forums, since an employee of Rebellion is watching over and posting at the forum.

This fucking sucks. I ordered the LE from Amazon, and it says it's not going to be delivered until fucking Thursday morning. If I had the regular version, I could br playing right now, but noooooooooo, I needed that fucking plastic facehugger and fucking Weyland-Yutani patch. Fuck!

Yeah Steam is too unreliable for server-side only. Needs to be both.

Nope, just add the game's .exe to the profile that Nvidia has for Alien Vs. Predator 3. FOr some reason they have the wrong .exe name in the profile. You don't have to change anything else to get the performance boost.
