Am i the only one that dislike the anologue nub??

Am I??? I can't stand it ive tried and tried again to get used to it it just feels very sluggish and imprecise. It is basically the same problem I have with the duel shock analogue sticks they are just too imprecise. Don't get me wrong I dont hate the psp im actually quite fond of it, I just can't stand this nub little thing that really ruins it for me. Yes, and I do know it is better than anything ds has to offer but thats not the case of this thread.
 
i think its pretty good but the few hours i spent with underground rivals i used the d-pad all the time.

my question is why didnt they include a second analog? it would more closely resemble the dualshock minus 2 extra shoulder buttons. fps and action games would be more enjoyable.
 
I find the positioning very off. It's ok now that I've gotten the hang of it, but it's by no means ideal. I hope they improve it next time around.
 
I would have loved to see some thing like the eraser mouse control they have on IBM laptops on either side. I just think they are more ideal.
 
Depends on what you're playing, slugishness is due to developers. Wipeout can be played smoothly with the nub, and I rented NFL street 2 and it plays just like the console with the nub. Other titles like NFS and RR are better with the D-pad.
 
Really? I prefer it to a normal analog stick. There's much less actual movement involved and I don't find my fingers sliding off of it. Plus, "sliding" the nub as opposed to "tilting" a stick just feels better to me.
 
I don't like it at all. It's like you are either moving it too much or you aren't moving it enough. There's no in between. I stick with the d-pad. It's done right by me for 20 years.
 
It hurts my hand to use it more than 10 mins. I have pretty big hands, but I never had that problem with my sp.
 
I stick to the d-pad thanks to the nub's position, so I can't really comment on the quality of it, just I hate the position.
 
I prefer the digital pad for Wipeout Pure. Lumines is something you can't really test the nub on. I can't say for certain without playing more games, but at this stage, I'm not liking it.

This is the problem I am having with it also I think thier is too much pull toward the center. I was playing nned for speed man that is damn well unplayable with the little nub but similarly I had the same problem with twisted metal I am all over the place. When I use the nub the stretch that my finger has to left anlogue trigger is a little to much and it annoys me.
 
It's great for certain games. I absolutely love it for precision games like Wipeout. I couldn't go back to the digital pad after trying it for a while. On the other hand, I can't use it at all for Twisted Metal. Control in that is just too loose and fast; it seems like I can't keep up when using the analog.
 
I actually like it better than Sony's analog sticks on the Dual Shock, simply because it's not as "loose". I just wish there was a bit more give to it and the placement was a bit higher, but hey its better than nothing.
 
I was just going to start a thread asking people what the beef is. I think all things considered, it's really good. I mean, what was Sony supposed to, slap on a traditional Dual Shock Stick? I'd love to hear what others would have done.

Though I have to agree with the positioning thing. Otherwise, I like it.
 
i'm pretty sure your whole delegation dislikes it. i suppose no aspect of fanboy behavior should really surprise me at this point, but the degree to which controller preference correlates with console preference still surprises me. controllers are mechanical things that either work well or do not. even if there is really room for such variance of opinion -- which i doubt -- opinions shouldn't dovetail so neatly with biases. it's really, deeply crazy.

i like the analog nub fine. works beautifully for wipeout. doesn't cramp my hand, while the position of the d-pad actually does, as does the position of the face buttons. the tension feels a bit strange...seems like it might be uneven over the nub's throw.

i dunno they go pretty fast plus its sofware controlled soo its all developer.
 
i think if they moved the d-pad down just a bit and put the nub above it it would be perfect. its hard moving your thumb while using the L triggerif it were above the d-pad i think it would be more comforatable
 
I've only used it with Tiger Woods (other games being lumines and wipeout), and at first i hated it, but once you get it down it's not too bad.

Of course with TW, you just need to press back and forth.
 
I've only had my PSP a short time, and haven't really had a chance to get used to it too much, but yeah, I'm wondering about the analog nub. I gravitate toward using the d-pad in wipeout, and I'm wondering about simultaneous use of the nub and the left shoulder button. Maybe we time I'll grow to like it...or more precisely, grow to use it without hesitation whenever it's available to use.
 
I actually like the nub, it works great on Ridge Racer. I have a huge problem with the D pad though, Sony flattened it giving it less vertical. It makes it a pain in the ass to pull of Morrigan's shadow blade in Darkstalkers.
 
It's alright for racing games and games like Untold Legends but it's horrible in Ape Escape & Tiger Woods, so maybe Kojima was right to think it would have been bad in a MGS game. It will be interesting to see what games translate successfully to it.

The D-pad is good for some games & bad for others, as well. Darkstalkers, for example, controls badly mostly because the D-Pad is too flush with the surface of the PSP.

It's position sucks.

It also has a bigger dead center spot than the Dual Shock. Something I thought would never happen again. Way to be, Sony.

However, I find RR completely unplayable with the D-Pad, so the nub it is. I just wish my thumbs didn't hurt so much after each race.

Anyone try out the replacement nub included in the 'Deluxe Pack' they were selling at EB?
 
I like the nub. Granted the only thing I have that uses it is Ridge, but it's dang near perfect for it. I'm not sure where else Sony could've put the thing without messing with the harmony of the whole device, since it's all kinda packed in there with nowhere to go. I don't much like the laptop nubbins -- they're not optimal for thumb use (I could see slipping offa that thing way too often).
 
As many of you have said, the position/placement of the nub on the PSP is friggin terrible. Because the PSP is not a dual shock and has no handles, you have to keep your thumb mostly bent the whole time you use the nub and it's just very awkward. You can't help but get cramps after like 20 minutes.
 
I love it. I tend to use the nub on every game that supports it. RR, Wipeout, and Twisted Metal all play great with it. I find it to be more comfortable than the d-pad...
 
Ridge Racer and Wipeout work great with the nub, but i use the dpad for Twisted Metal since it's easier to pull off the special moves (freeze, shield, etc.) with it.

This year I finished both RE4R and Rage, and for me these games are at the same level of greatness. Why the dislike towards Rage?
