Amazon DD Sales Thread

Nah, someone else will relay. I say it on GAF Steam chat but it's sort of fishy for him to post that like that. It's definitely frowned upon but he's never made some post or even started a thread like that. Makes me perceive that his account was hacked.

Amazon did post a net loss for the quarter...

Hmm....

Welp, guess thats the end of Amazon deals here.

Well it was somewhat deserved, imo. He was already in talks with devs/pubs about his OT ideas. He shouldn't have been the one doing this as this is not his forum. Moreover it's against the rule to make an OT when you have a conflict of interests...

It's too bad because he was a very nice guy but that idea was truly horrible.

How naive is it to think that he was just talking about helping people get the press kits with nice screenshots, logos and the like? Y'know, the kind we sometimes surreptitiously locate on official FTP servers.]

Pretty sure that's exactly what he meant

You know what.

I'm sure he had the best intentions (like, press kits, fonts, better information on the game) coming directly from the publishers of some game.

HOWEVER, one can see how this could clearly be understood incorrectly (You're just doing PR work for that game!). Yes, Tony's timing on this was INEXCUSABLE, as we're having reviewers integrity being questioned FOR THIS VERY REASON.

Also, it's 100% against the rules of the forum.

However, I'll call it a "rookie mistake". He clearly had no knowledge of the rules about not being associated with the company or the game. You can clearly see his "innocence" on the "I'll delete the thread later". From what I read of him, I bet a "hey dude that's not cool, it's against the rules" would make him drop the idea altogether.

I hope it's a "slap on the wrist" ban and that he can come back soon.

Edit: It's permanent? oh well... :/

Perma? Damn, that's harsh. I figured it would be maybe 6 months with a stern warning never to cross the line again.

Need to send a strong message that stuff like that won't be tolerated even if it's completely transparent. It's easy to see how even just an innocent toe in the water like that can suddenly become a complete clusterfuck of plants.

Okay. I didn't actually know that crossed the line as far as OT rules were concerned. Learning is good!

Neither did i :( Pretty silly really but there you go. Getting proper screenshots and shit would be good, but there you go ;) I'll go back to not posting in this thread again now

*pop*

I'm usually one that defends Tony when he's being attacked by people in the steam thread for posting Amazon related deals for Steam codes.

But that thread.... You should have asked Evilore first, Tony.

I hope it wasn't permanent. I like having him around. I just dont understand why he posted that.

With Wario around, I think we will be ok.

I'm pretty sure he'll be in contact with Nelo as well.

The comment on CAG for why he was banned suggests that maybe him posting deals here was already walking a tight rope.

Well there was that stupid non-issue (imo) of him posting Amazon deals in the Steam thread that one time. Maybe he was on thin ice and this was the tipping point.

Well anything can be reveresed. Bishop went to bat for me once and sadly was overturned by Dragona. With the right dialog, I'm sure anything is possible. I don't really care to get involved but if somehow he were to come back, he would be watched and surveyed under the microscope. I'm not sure if mods want to police individuals like that here.

It kind of was but guys like him are allowed as long as they're pretty open about who they are and understanding of the role they play. It's not a lot different than how we allow developers and marketing people from publishers (like community managers) here too as long as they don't step out of line. It seems to work most of the time too, I don't recall too many of them getting banned.

Doubt it can be reversed if it's from Evilore himself.

Drove off a good poster who interacted with the community in a great way, because in a totally above board way he mistakenly offered to help people make their OT's more cool.

I think it's a damned shame. Reminds me of zero tolerance situations where kids get expelled from school for bringing nail clippers to class. Total overreaction.

It kinda was. He already went on the Steam thread once saying "hey guyse this game is cheaper on Amazon, even though it doesn't register on Steam. check the other thread lolz"

And once we told him that's not cool, he didn't do it anymore.

BY FORUM RULES, his posts were very on the line. I mean, he works for Amazon, he promotes the discounts Amazon puts up...

He also provided an Amazing User Support, fixing things we told him were wrong and providing keys/special deals for Steam-enabled content when we asked.

But again, rules are rules.

hdn might as well have been.

Its from Evilore though so if you can convince him...

If I were Evilore I'd tell AVG that he can post in this thread and only this thread, else his ban be re-instated.

*hint* *hint* Evilore.

Seriously though, I'm conflicted. I'm sure he had good intentions, but it's a clear conflict of interest and he should have seen this coming. Still, he's a dedicated guy and has been a great asset to all of us so a big part of me wishes he could be given one last chance.

I like Tony, but that post was beyond stupid. He had a special position to begin with, but that was kind of pushing the boundary of what is acceptable of an official representative of any company.

The less OP's are stupid PR pieces the better.

If this thread becomes "too meta" for too long, could it be in danger too? Let's be careful and try not to get too off-topic of Amazon deals...

why did it have to happen this way;-;

Uh. Dark Souls. Buy or not buy
