WTF why don’t they write RDNA 2.0? Or next generation RDNA? Why just RDNA? That’s RDNA 1.0?!

Cue the inevitable people saying "they couldn't, AMD had not officially announced it" that are the same people that now claim AMD secretly announced RDNA2 for PS5 before Sony officially announced it.

It's only embarrassing if you don't understand the fundamentals of the English language, punctuation and the separation of statements.

"RDNA 2, the next-gen, will support raytracing. Both the next-gen Xbox and PlayStation will support hardware raytracing with Radeon natively."

Let's break this down shall we...

  • RDNA 2, the next-gen, will support raytracing.

This is an independent statement of the architecture, of the hardware capability abstract of anything said before or after it.

  • Both the next-gen Xbox and PlayStation will support hardware raytracing with Radeon natively.

This is also an independent statement. This isn't saying one or the other is RDNA 2, the first statement merely states that RDNA 2 supports RT, and in the second statement it says Xbox and PlayStation will support hardware RT with Radeon. The lack of connection in these statements is in how they're worded, it doesn't say "Both Xbox and PlayStation 5 will support hardware RT via RDNA 2". All it's stating is that RDNA 2 supports RT, and is followed up with another sentence that both Xbox and PlayStation will have RT.

It doesn't state how they're arriving at RT merely that it's through Radeon. We know that Xbox is RDNA 2 and as a result has HWRT via it, we still don't know how Sony is arriving at their RT via Radeon or what the underlying architecture of their GPU is.
Dude AMD confirmed live in steaming both are RDNA2 not only once but dozen of times lol
Just stop.
It is pathetic.

well, MS confirmed RDNA 2.0 way before amd mentioned RDNA 2.0

Next Generation Custom Processor:Xbox Series X is our most powerful console ever powered by our custom designed processor leveraging AMD’s latest Zen 2 and RDNA 2 architectures.

Mocking thelastword thelastword but now you were proven wrong and can’t even apologize to him. Go figure.
That's how it is man, rinse repeat...…..He even suggested that I would have a meltdown.....Why would I have a meldown on what product a company releases....I'm a customer I either buy it or don't, and in this hobby/industry, the most important thing has always been the games....The games have always won....

That's why I told folk in the if Sony is 9.2TF thread that PS will not be 9.2TF because Sony always delivers the most powerful console they can at the time of release, with the latest and even futureproof technology, so tech/spec wise I am never concerned....I know we will get a very powerful piece of kit, just like we got with the best technology they could muster in a console in 2013......

Also, look at the guys taking this 7nm RDNA 2 talk and running with it for quick points, without even reading an article....Pretty much all roadmap information points to 7nm+ for Navi 2 and Zen 3.....Of course it's 7nm, but its a more advanced 7nm process node.....That's always how they presented it and that has not changed.....People are talking about how the RDNA 2 die is big because it's still on basic 7nm when it's not, it's big because, CU count will skyrocket, there's hardware RT and who knows what else on 7nm advanced......

According to the roadmap shared by AMD, the RDNA2 GPUs would feature three key features that will be part of the new GPU architecture. First and foremost is the performance per watt increase which is due to a number of reasons. AMD will be shifting from TSMC's 7nm process to the more advanced 7nm process node. The new process node itself increases transistor efficiency on the new GPUs while decreasing its overall size, allowing AMD to cram more performance in a much smaller package.

https://wccftech.com/amd-radeon-rx-navi-2x-rdna2-gpus-2x-performance-ray-tracing-2020-launch/

Not a word, not a word, not a word....

To all the Xbox fans upset about this news:

this is what happens when you listen to Tim dog and mistermedia and blue nogroho about things they have no clue about like ps5 . They did the same exact shit in 2013 . Some people never learn.

this is good for the industry as it means all 3rd parties will use it since both are using same thing

I really don't understand whats the obsession with hoping one console is so much weaker than the other. But you guys keep fighting the good fight ✊🤭🤭

Meanwhile gamers win with the nice lineup leading to next gen.

For the same reason they didn't say RDNA 2.0 for XSX before MS announced it. They can't announce it until Sony makes it public knowledge.
Uh, you do know that is directly from the Sony website? Right? Sony themselves write just RDNA for the PS5 on their website. Lol

anyway, let’s just wait until Sony reveals the goddamn thing

I mean; come on, we have to rely on AMD to give us info about PS5. What the actual fuck? What happened to Sony? Seriously

Sony is that friend that keep canceling on you but keep promising to come next time but never do. The one that you have to ask other friends to know what’s up.

They write "RDNA (Radeon DNA)-Based Graphics Engine" in general terms, doesn't exclude anything. Anyway, kind of moot since AMD already said it.

"The next-generation consoles will use our latest Zen technology, our latest RDNA technology as well, really creating this very immersive experience with ray tracing, 3D audio, fast load times to really excite a new generation of gamers."

Assuming they mean RDNA2, then there would be Zen 3 in consoles (latest RDNA technology = RDNA2, latest Zen technology = Zen 3). We know that is not correct. So by latest Zen technology they actually mean Zen 2, the latest Zen technology that is available right now. Which means that latest RDNA technology is likely also not referring to the latest RDNA technology that will be available, but to the latest RDNA technology that is available right now, which is RDNA1.

RDNA 3 won't come before 2021.

So next year Zen 3 and RDNA 3 will be the latest tecnology.

You have serious comprehension issues.
I noted that when you said that AMD said RDNA 2 was co-developed by Microsoft when they clearly said that about DXR 1.1.

Just going to correct you there, Zen 3 is coming late this year on 7nm+.

"In this graph, we see that the Zen 3 product here is on the far right, but so is the date – 2021. Does this mean Zen 3 for consumers is coming 2021? We asked AMD to clarify, and were told that we should interpret this as that the range of Zen 3 consumer products, such as desktop CPUs, HEDT CPUs, mobile APUs, and consumer APUs, should all be available by the end of 2021. The company clarified that Zen 3 will hit the consumer market ‘later this year’, meaning late 2020."

Edit: Bolded for those who can't read.

What immediately caught my attention:
Unlike Zen 2, which was more of an evolution of the Zen microarchitecture that powers first-gen Epyc CPUs -- Zen 3 will be based on a completely new architecture.

I swear to god, this is EXACTLY the same thing they said about Zen2 vs Zen+, like literally word after word.

You clearly didn't read, Epyc & the 4000 series. There's multiple articles on the internet stating the same thing.

Don't be so thick headed. 4000 series is confirmed to launch late this year. APU's & mobile etc will most likely be the following year, just like 3000 series.

Zen 3 releases before RDNA2, both this year. Again, if they are calling RDNA2 their latest RDNA technology, then they surely would call Zen 3 their latest Zen technology because it's coming earlier than RDNA2. So they are actually talking about both consoles with regards to what technology is in the market today, not what will be there at the end of the year.

First RDNA 2 was treated like big changes in architecture.
Now it is RDNA + RT + VRR and they announced RDNA 3 that will bring the big changes in architecture.

EPYC Milan is 2020... not consumer product.
And not what is used in consoles lol

not, i mean the INTRO VIDEO and not the slides from the presentation.
so sony has a custom SOC..... based on RDNA{2} .. . the question is: has is VRS and good RTX solution.
The VRS and RT solution is basically the same to all RDNA 2 chips.
The difference is between APIs only (software).

I can only assume that this is because you're not a native English speaker, but they are clearly saying that by the end of 2021, ALL their Zen 3 products will be available. And some of them will be already out in late 2020, like desktop CPUs of the 4000 series.

Most likely it's the APU's that won't release until 2021. They usually lag about a year behind the rest. Zen 3 desktop CPU's will release in 2020.

2021.

APU's come after desktop, it's always been that way. APU's will more than likely be 2021 along with 4000 based laptops. Yikes dude, you just digging a hole for yourself.

"During its Financial Analyst Day, AMD presented it's latest CPU roadmaps and confirmed that the next-generation Zen 3 based Ryzen & EPYC Milan CPUs are arriving later this year. Based on a 7nm process node, the new Zen 3 based CPU families are going to deliver a huge leap in performance per watt and IPC gains.

Once again, most of the details are something that we already knew and AMD just reaffirmed those. According to the latest roadmap, AMD will be launching its Zen 3 CPU architecture this year in two key product families, the 4th Generation Ryzen 4000 series desktop processors and the 3rd Generation EPYC Milan server processors."

And I don't know why your link put Ryzen 4000 in the title as 2020... only EPYC Milan is 2020.
Ryzen 4000 is 2021.
BTW it is a promise yet... not actual release date for both.

Sony would have had RDNA 2 on the CES slides if they could have. It's not like it's no big deal. There's 50% efficiency difference between RDNA1 and RDNA2 according to yesterday's AMD slides.
A second Wired article came out to say that ray tracing was hardware accelerated (not only that but we all know that was the main point of the second article). How about a tweet about RDNA 2? AMD clearly stayed away from affirming or denying RDNA2 for the PS5. All the slides they put up can be interpreted one way or the other. They clearly judge that it's not up to them to reveal the specificities of the tech in the PS5 before Sony does and rightfully so. But it's unusual for Sony not to remove the ambiguity, especially since Microsoft has. May be they will soon.

We can wait to see... I'm not in a rush.

Even so that has nothing to do with my origina post where the consoles are using the latest 2020 technology from AMD... I don't know why create some type of spin to try to say that AMD didn't confirmed RDNA 2 for PS5 yesterday when they clearly did.
