AMD: Both XSX and PS5 RDNA2 based and have Hardware RT

then... why is Sony so quiet? Why don’t they crush the rumors that the PS5 is a weak console? Why all the silence? It’s MARCH. Not february anymore.
Sony won’t be at E3.

While I generally agree that being quiet doesn't mean good news (and with Reddit leak and Ariel Komachi leak and Github leak and Oberon Komachi leak there is actually a consistent proven messaging here which ends at 9.2 TF), there might be other reasons not to talk about PS5. If Microsoft indeed has a stake in AMD's raytracing they will be the ones that unveil it. So Sony couldn't talk about it until that happened, if they were using it. I don't buy that Microsoft has it exclusive, because they went out of their way and made DXR open source just a week ago, so it could be integrated into Vulkan. That's not something you do if you are protective of your technology.

What I do find curious is that Sony says "we’re not quite ready to fully unveil the next generation of PlayStation ". They do not say "we don't want to talk about PS5 yet". So it looks like there is indeed something keeping them from talking about PS5 today. I doubt it's that they don't want to do it. They have had devkits since late 2018.

lol lets say your hypothesis is correct (which it isn’t) then.... why did they start talking about nextgen in October 2019? Why did they reveal the logo? And then suddenly - after the github leak - NOTHING? (Specswise)
Why did they started talking about nextgen? If current matters so much, why didn’t they start AFTER all Those games have been released?
Could it maybe be that the PS5 is INDEED only 9 TF with RDNA 1.0 and a few custom features vs Xbox series X 12 TF RDNA 2.0? Obviously then they wouldn’t want to talk about PS5 because then this would make their console very weak, especially compared to Xbox series X
You willfully ignore one simple fact:

The vast majority of consumers outside of the US doesn't care about Xbox.

Even if PS5 will be only 9Tf, the moment they show PS5 games, XSX hype will die.

Definitely true, but maybe throughout the generation Xbox might take a bigger market share compared to the current situation. That's reason enough for Sony to think about how to play their cards correctly.

Fair point, but I doubt Sony is in full-on panic mode.

They released 4 out of the 5 most successfull consoles ever, they know how to handle their business, even after the messy launch of PS3.
I think people are reading way too much into the silence.

Think about it, when you already own this gen, why talk and boast when you can just quietly work behind the scenes and blow everybody's mind when the time is right?
That's the most logical approach for Sony to take.

Yeah, I agree. Let's say their console really only is 9TF. No one will care because the console will also be $100 cheaper than the XSX. I don't think they are panicking, they are just sticking to their release strategy and maybe adapting it a bit based on what Microsoft is doing, but there isn't any panic there.

Because Xbox won't also have new games to show off too? I don't think people comprehend that Sony really has no advantage here. It's difficult to see it from a hardcore fan of a specific brand perspective, most especially if you lean heavy playstation and don't particularly like Xbox. But, I repeat, they quite literally have no advantage where new, potentially exciting looking games are concerned.

Xbox, before appearing to have as big a focus on maintaining and acquiring new studios as they do now, always did a good job releasing amazing games that easily compete with what was available on playstation. The only time they ever obviously slacked off for me was this gen with Xbox One. There was just an unmistakable quality and announcement gap, but they came out the gate very strong and Gears 5 was unbelievable.

Xbox with Obsidian, Playground working on a major RPG, Rare working on a big new game that looks interesting, Halo Infinite coming at launch and looking as amazing as it does, and like the biggest change for the franchise in years and on a brand new engine designed for next gen, plus whatever all the other studios are working on. So hype dying? Not for gamers. For zealots, they've already convinced themselves there's nothing Xbox can show them, no matter how good it might look, that will be any good. I'm glad I don't have a mindset where I just dismiss games based on platform alone. I see a badass looking xbox game, i then immediately start thinking what Sony has up their sleeves. My backlog is just insane and it's stretches across every platform. It's a give and take. The only way to kill the hype for Series X is if Microsoft quite literally release no new games.

So source is finally out, and guess what, the article is wrong. He just says that RDNA2 is for raytracing. And then says that both Xbox and PS5 will be powered by Radeon technology and both will have hardware raytracing. Nowhere does he say that PS5 is RDNA2 or that PS5 is using AMD's raytracing. He is just repeating what Microsoft and Sony have said. He does not say Xbox and PS5 will be powered by next gen RDNA/RDNA2 technology.

In fact, now we have both Lisa Su and him talking with "Radeon" about PS5, nothing about next-gen RDNA. You'd think if PS5 used AMD raytracing he would just say that both Xbox and PS5 are using AMD raytracing.

Please learn a thing or 2. RDNA/2 is still Radeon technology.

see. He doesn’t mention RDNA 2.0 support for PS5. He just says it supports raytracing „by radeon„ if PS5 would support RDNA 2.0 he would say it
The whole interview is about rdna 2 where he mentions Botha xsx and ps5 . Soon all will be clear don’t worry . Will tag you again 👌👍

RDNA 2, THE NEXT-GEN, WILL SUPPORT RAYTRACING. BOTH THE NEXT-GEN XBOX AND PLAYSTATION WILL SUPPORT HARDWARE RAYTRACING WITH RADEON NATIVELY.
This statement never happened, no need to take a loss for it. The author deleted the middle part to turn it into something else.

What it should look like is this:

RDNA 2, THE NEXT-GEN, WILL SUPPORT RAYTRACING. [...] BOTH THE NEXT-GEN XBOX AND PLAYSTATION WILL SUPPORT HARDWARE RAYTRACING WITH RADEON NATIVELY.

SO this clears up a few things
* RDNA 2.0 is used for Playstation and Xbox
* The "Xbox might have GCN" talk can finally stop
* Sony doesn't have some sort of special RT solution
* That Sony Developer tweet was bullshit regarding RT

WILL SUPPORT HARDWARE RAYTRACING WITH RADEON NATIVELY.

vs.

[...] RDNA2, which is the next gen, will actually support raytracing in hardware. The second point is this, most you are already very very familiar with this and it's actually public information now: Both the next gen Xbox as well as the next gen Playstation, both of them are going to be powered by Radeon and both of them support hardware raytracing. Natively.

Can you see it now? The author changes the structure of the sentence so it says they support Radeon raytracing. But that's not what he says.

He is answering questions. One about when they will support raytracing, then another one about raytracing in consoles. The two are not connected. That's why he says Radeon and not RDNA2. Like Lisa Su said PS5 is powered by Radeon and Project Scarlett is powered by next gen RDNA (now known as RDNA2)at E3 2019. He is just repeating (it's public information) what Microsoft and Sony have announced.

Sounds like goalposts to me. You initially said that comment never existed when this thread was made, now that it comes to light, the new argument is "sentence structure"? Semantical.

Sounds more like he dropped how they are doing RT with RDNA2.0 revision (like they always have in their slides), and chose to not speak on their other clients until they announce all features themselves. Seems you need RDNA2.0 for RT on their silicon.

FTFY

Also, this does not mean the ex Sony Dev is bullshit. They both have access to AMDs silicon, but can do various customization's beyond as well with how it's handled. MS will more than likely be using customization's built around their DirextX patent, and Sony will be doing them around their solution and pathways.

Radeon is everything. Radeon is GCN, Radeon is RDNA. Radeon is RDNA2. It's just AMD's codeword for graphics architectures.

It means absolutely nothing. All it means is "platform is using our graphics technology". Just because RDNA2 is Radeon doesn't mean that something that is using Radeon is using RDNA2.

That's what he says, yes. You need RDNA2 to get hardware raytracing from AMD. But that still doesn't imply that PS5 is using RDNA2, as he just says that PS5 is using hardware raytracing. And yes, of couse it's semantical when it completely changes what was said. And what was the point of OP, that both are powered by Radeon raytracing - which is simply not what Mithun said.

*cough* it still doesn't say the PS5 uses RNDA2 *cough*

you literally have to interpret it into what he says in order to come out the other end thinking he said both use RDNA2... he specifically doesn't say that, he says both use Radeon and both support raytracing. if both were RDNA2, why wouldn't he just say both use RDNA2?

It doesn't say XSX does either, due to when it was said, yet that was later confirmed by MS.

I think y'all are just hanging on to this shit way too much like people did with "no hardware RT" even though Cerny had to say it 2 to 3 different times to the knuckleheads.

so you do not find it weird how he puts it? he talks about RDNA2, how it has raytracing, but then when he goes on to talk about the new consoles he specifically says both use Radeon and both have Hardware RT.
so what i am thinking is that AMD is contractually obligated to not talk about the specific hardware of these consoles.

and again, the PS5 could easily use RDNA1 with added RDNA2 features, the only real difference would be that RDNA2 will most likely be a bit more efficient and would draw a bit less power... at least that's my guess. noone actually knows any specifics about RDNA2 beyond RT and VRS support

Playstation: Zen 2, 7nm (not 7nm+, which would be RDNA2), Radeon Navi (which can mean RDNA or RDNA2)

"next gen Radeon technology"

Xbox:

"next generation Radeon RDNA gaming graphics architecure"

The two are not the same. It's RDNA for PS5 and RDNA2 for Xbox.

He also doesn’t say xsx is rdna 2 . Does that means xsx is not rdna 2? You are hanging to straws at this point but it’s understandable. Xbox community created this fallacy that only xsx is 12 tf rdna 2 based on few Xbox fanboys like dealer and Tim dog and one by one that dream is dismantling in front of them and it’s hard to accept .tough few months ahead but hopefully u learn

maybe he uses Radeon as an umbrella term exactly because they use different versions of RDNA?

what I am saying, and all I ever said on this matter is HE DOESN'T SAY THE PS5 USES RDNA2... and it is a FACT that he doesn't say that.
so why do people take it as a fact that he does say it does?

this forum is full of misinterpretations and all I am saying is that people should take quotes literally and not interpret random stuff into them.

he doesn't say both use RDNA2 <- FACT

What's with the toxic behavior, can't you just talk about the facts without getting into petty wars? Xbox has announced that it's on RDNA2, just like Lisa Su implied a year ago.

He doesn't say EITHER uses it. You know XSX currently does because MS announced it the other day.

BOTH THE NEXT-GEN XBOX AND PLAYSTATION WILL SUPPORT HARDWARE RAYTRACING WITH RADEON NATIVELY.

That is the very same sentence you are using to say the PS5 doesn't have it. The same fucking sentence the XSX is in.

If this was discovered prior to MS's announcement, somehow I think this thread would be read totally differently. Purposely obtuse.

I will answer this in few days . And as usual you will pivot . Book this : non of next gen consoles are 7nm euv . 7nm euv will be very limited in supply in 2020 and that belongs to amd and apple .

I don't get what that has to do with anything.

should I bring up the PS4pro again? GCN1.1 with added features of GCN 4 and GCN 5... doesn't mean it is GCN 5 based... because it is based on GCN 1.1
You don’t know that is the case here or not . So why do you make such statement like it’s fact ? Again it most probably has to do with your dream of xsx being 12 tf rdna 2 and ps5 8 tf rdna 1 . This is what u guys truly believed and accepting otherwise is hard . Tough times ahead 👍👌

He could be saying it to avoid saying both have RDNA2, or he could have used this phrasing just to specifically note they both are made by AMD and have hardware raytracing.

After listening a few times I’m starting to lea towards the first seems more likely in the context of the wording. Outside that phrasing though it would seem unlikely so in general I’d say both have the same RDNA2 capabilities.

So overall .. keep arguing I guess haha

where do I do that? and how many times do I have to repeat myself?

ALL I AM SAYING IS THAT THE QUOTE IN THE LINK OR IN THE VIDEO DOES IN NO WAY AND NOWHERE STATE THAT BOTH CONSOLES USE RDNA2

meanwhile it seems like you and many others seem to be 100% sure it does use RDNA2 with 0 proof and many things that point to the contrary... weird right? I am not saying that anything 100% proofs that the PS5 uses RDNA1 but what I am saying is... well read the big bold statement above
so may I ask you: "So why do you make such statement like it’s fact ?"
