Will wait for 9950X3D…I’m upgrading for sure even if it’s not crazy upliftHere is a powerpoint slide from AMD, because I know Leonidas likes them.
And here is the AMD introduction of the 9800X3D
The company announced that the 8-core CPU will be available on November 7th, as teased earlier. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D is officially launching at $479.
Bummer but kind of expected. Also just for reference, 5800X3D and 7800X3D launched at $449 so it’s really not that big of an increase. And now for the bad news:

Might get one if/when Microcenter has a good deal. I got a 7800X3D there for $349 about a year ago.
True, I can’t believe how expensive the 7800X3D is now.Ever since the 13th and 14th degradation debacle, and now with the 200 series failure, the X3D parts have become highly sought after.
At the beginning of the year, we could get a 7800X3D for little over 300 bucks. But now, prices have skyrocketed
And to make things worse, AMD has stopped production of the 5800X3D.

Don't know if I can justify the upgraded from my 7800X3D. Especially since I game at 4k with a 4090.
But the fact that you can sell a used 7800X3D for close to $400 still makes this kinda tempting.
If that AMD presentation is accurate, which it might not be, you would be paying 80$ for 8% performance.
I'm not sure it's worth it, just for gaming.
In work apps, it seems to be better, with up to 26% more performance. Mostly due to the 9800X3D being able to keep higher clocks.
So if you do some work on the side, it might be worth it.
I think AMD might stop discounting their gaming CPUs as quickly or as deeply now. I would be surprised if the 9800X3D hits $399 before the end of the life cycle.Ever since the 13th and 14th degradation debacle, and now with the 200 series failure, the X3D parts have become highly sought after.

$479 sounds good to me
Oof. Shame on Intel. Damn.
41% faster than the 285k in FF14 Dawntrail
47% faster in COD
...time for me to return to AMD for the first time since Athlon 64!
If you overclock the E cores and find 1million MHz DDR5 you can beat the 7800 sometimes..Oof. Shame on Intel. Damn.
I mean... the 7800X3D is enough to kill Ultra 200K.
ignore thread exists.Could you guys do me a solid and delete this topic so I don't get tech fomo and drop 450 bucks I really shouldnt?
Same. Not a huge uplift tbh but I am still getting one.
Damn they didn't need to include that slide, they're just flexing at that point, wont somebody think of Intel's feelings?41% faster than the 285k in FF14 Dawntrail

True, I just checked the prices in my country and the 7800X3D is 65% more expensive than what I paid for it in June.True, I can’t believe how expensive the 7800X3D is now.
Oddly enough that makes me more likely to upgrade because I can sell the 7800X3D for a pretty decent price.
Yeah same. Probably around march-june timeframe depending on what gfx cards I like around that time. Will wait for 9950X3D…I’m upgrading for sure even if it’s not crazy uplift
Are you talking about the 9800x3d not having the same "advanced" features of the 9900x3d and 9950x3d?Well, whoever this leaker or news outlet who reported this, you can add them to the "fake leaker" list now.
Wasn't Starfield one of those games that ran much faster on 285K vs 7800X3D? Seems iffy that they're calling the new chip 9% faster than 7800X3D but 31% faster than 285K in the game.

Any hint what the extra features of the 9900x3d/9950x3d could be?
Tbh, I would never expected to see Intel fall this hard.
Crazy
I still couldn't wrap my head around it simply because how ahead of everyone they used to be. Even their last offerings were competitive somehow but now?! Jeez they are alive simply because of the US gov.Did you not see how their thing has been to pretty much refresh the same chips and architecture until death for the last decade and a half?
Did you not see how they used to force an entire motherboard upgrade pretty much every iteration between the 3XXX (2012) and 11XXX (2021) series of CPU's?
They've had this coming, the chickens have come home to roost and it's been long overdue.
Same here but I will just pull the trigger sometime in 2025, new CPU + Mobo + Ram.Thinking about switching my 5600x, really don't feel like swapping the mobo as well.
He chocked like Intel performance in gamesHis last post was October 10th. I wonder what happened.
