Hello.

Could some knowlegable people please give me advice on what amd64 cpu to buy and whats' the best motherboard?
I'm not willing to spend over $550AU on it though.

I'm very much interested in the AMD64 3500+ 939 and a Gigabyte K8NS Ultra motherboard.

Is this good or can i do better for my $ ?

I'd wait for the new Venice cores to become available (within the next few weeks). You'll pay a slight premium over the Winchester or Newcastle cores, but these babies use a lot less power, operate at lower voltage and overclock to INSANE speeds with stock cooling.

Check out this article. The Athlon 64 3200+ (new Venice core) clocked up to 2.8 gigahertz on stock cooling, without a volt mod!
