Okay? A hotel? That's...interesting. How does the top hat clue from season four equate a hotel theme though? Another period piece perhaps? Is he trying for, like, a Grand Hotel/Grand Budapest Hotel type thing?

Lady Gaga though? As the lead? I know know about that. I haven't heard anything about her (thus far) very small acting career, so maybe she'll surprise us like at the Oscars?

With American Horror Story, a new Lady Gaga project is aptly titled for once.

lol

They still doing this?

It's one of the biggest shows on cable tv.

Can't imagine it being on the level of Asylum but I'll watch.

Asylum has some of the best TV I have ever seen.

Yeah, I'm done with AHS. Got through four eps of Freak Show and was bored to tears.

I've put up with a lot of garbage from AHS, but when the show got boring, that was the last straw.

They need to do a hard, hard reset with new writers, directors, actors, etc. I don't want horror anthology to be totally gone though.

how can anyone be sick of Lange?

She's master-class and is a joy to watch perform. :{

I hope Chiklis is back.

Because she plays the same character whose arc seems to coincide with the decline of the overall story.
Coven and her ghost lover, Freakshow and her useless climb to fame and fortune only for it to ultimately not matter at all.

It's horrible. Worse than Coven. The main thing was just that it was so uninspired and boring.

I think overall I enjoyed freakshow more than Coven, but things like excessive musical numbers and characters I didn't care about brought it back to Coven's level in the end. Or at least close to it. I fucking hated Coven. I think both of the last couple of seasons saw a ton of wasted potential.

I hope Chiklis is back.

Not really her exactly, but the show has catered to her desires the last couple of years. Musicals. Love stories. Show could use some freshness to it. Part of that is no more Lange.

Hope it's like the real life hotel in downtown LA where that Canadian Chinese girl was freaking out in the elevator, was later found dead in the water tank that serviced the hotel. Turns out that the hotel has had a past of murders and suicides including serial murderer Richard Ramirez.

Edit: Cecil Hotel is the name, scary shit.

Dexter season 8

At least Dex season 8 was entertaining.

Freakshow couldn't even manage that during its low points.

That is not good.

NOT GOOD.

I don't know where things went wrong, but there was a time when AHS was never a boring show. Schlocky, yes, stupid, sure at a number of times, but never boring.

This is the main thing - Coven, as terrible as it was, still had Angela Bassett and Kathy Bates chewing through every scene like ravenous goats; it had Francis Conroy playing the theremin; Gabourey Sidibe fucked a minotaur offscreen; the phrase "witch bitch" was uttered; there were two Stevie Nicks music videos thrown in there for some inexplicable reason; Coven was hardly boring.

Freakshow, on the other hand, had nothing of worth. Maybe one or two side characters - a scene here or there. But it was largely absent of anything worthwhile. It was a complete waste of air time.

here for mrs bates

may catch the first episode or two...but really disinterested in this series after the 3 + 4 stink bombs....

i dont know how you fuck up witches and freakshow themes but they were boring as all shit.

it's like they try not to be scary and just use the concept of horror as the backdrop for the gushy drama

the titles/openings are typically the scariest thing about the most recent seasons

So... was Freakshow any good? I still have to finish Coven...

It was better than Coven (just stop now), but not good enough to inspire confidence in the future of the series. I'm done with AHS unless reception to Hotel is 100% raving positivity.

AHS' main problem is the problem with every Ryan Murphy show post-Nip/Tuck: he just gets bored after the first few episodes.

Perfect summary, really. He falls in love with a certain time period or aesthetic that plays out over the first 3-4 episodes of every season, and then just coasts to the end from there. AHS exists as a vehicle for imagery that Murphy finds appealing. Once he's had a German Jessica Lange sing Lana Del Rey in a circus tent, he's satisfied. The narrative, especially the conclusion, is secondary.

Nothing has been as good as season 1 with the haunted house

Hopefully a haunted hotel is a return to its roots

(season 2 was the only other good season)

the first half of season 2 was amazing, but it really overstayed it's welcome.
I might start with season 3 though after finishing daredevil on netflix, but I'm not really sure when everyone think it gets only worse.

This is the first time I've heard about Hotel. It could be interesting, but I have my doubts and don't have much interest in seeing Gaga on the small screen. Perhaps she'll end up being good in it, though.

Freak Show was crap, and was hard to watch at times. It went next to nowhere, wasn't scary and made me wish I was watching something else. I've yet to see Coven, though, and am currently four episodes away from finishing Asylum.

The first season, Murder House, is leaps and bounds ahead of Freak Show and quite a bit better than Asylum in my opinion. Asylum is too silly at times, doesn't have much of a hook and just isn't all that interesting. Apparently Coven is worse. Murder House was great, then things went south.

They shouldn't have included aliens in Asylum, and should've focused it more. Granted, I'm not done it yet, but it's a bit of a slog.

I kind of wish they'd change the cast up and not use Lange so much. She's good, and I respect her, but I'm just not all that interested in this actors changing roles thing anymore.

Aliens are in Asylum for the same reason Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull uses them - they're a hallmark of '50s pop culture.

I don't know if I want to put myself through watching Coven. I haven't heard good things, and its TV spots looked stupid.

The completionist inside of me wants to watch it all, though.

I watched American Horror for the first time a few weeks ago, started with season 4, loved the intro, music, theme, etc.and the first few episodes had genuinely creepy moments, specially the clown, such a shame
he dies after the third.

But then you go to the plot and characters wich were a big dissapointment, like the writters know how to do horror but instead want to make a campy, character driven, comedic series, and its just not good, plot points get behind after one episode, characters can be entertaining but also just a joke, silly, boring drama, etc.

Tried season 1 and 3 but didnt liked them, season 2 is the best, but still has a lot of flaws, overall the show shines on how it looks imo.
