Amiibo Discussion Thread 2: I Got 99 Pre-orders But A Rosalina Ain't One

For me the rarity is a odd issue.
People like Pit and Captain Falcon I like. Not enough to get day 1 originally but enough that I would have slowly built my collection and thus added them. But with the supply the way it is I have to grab everyone i even have a inkling of liking for right away or I can screw myself out of ever owning it. WFT which I thankfully got from a Gaffer here was a great catch since I thought that was done for. Marth I had planned on grabbing during christmas for me and a friend but by that time he was already scarce as hell if not basically OOS in the US. It really bothers me the way that I have to collect these now and i'm not even trying to go for a full set.

Yeah, it really does force you to buy them all now, because you don't have the option of figuring out which characters you may want to buy later. I think that is an important element that some forget, it's that these amiibos are designed to be played with in the game, it may take some time before a person actually decided if they prefer a character or not and wants to buy their amiibo. Theoretically a person could have no interest in Marth at the start, but then play around with him later in the game and finds they would love to own that amiibo. Too bad so sad.

Yep this fact alone is a huge part of it. Played a lot of smash during the holiday and that alone factored into which ones I want in the future that I didn't even want until then. Plus that same thing happened to me with villager right now. It's just such a shame the mess it all is currently.

I bought a Diddy Amiibo last week. I came across it by chance as I was hunting for Kirby's Return to Dreamland. Granted, I haven't seriously played a DK game in a LONG time. The last one I played was Donkey Kong 64. You can imagine how long ago that was. Anyway I bought the Amiibo in a whim. The store had multiples but stock was low. I not a big fan of Diddy Kong, I admit that, but I liked his gameplay in Brawl and Smash U. Am I just as bad as a scalper because I chose to buy 1 figure that would have been bought regardless of who walked through the door to buy a game or whatever? I'm not a greedy guy. Any Amiibo I've bought I either had an interest in or a remote interest in. I've never bought multiples of any one Amiibo because I can't afford to. Even if I could I wouldn't because I know there are others whom want the same Amiibo so I'm just satisfied with my one figure of a specific character. Again, am I just as bad as a scalper? I don't think my choice as a consumer to buy one figure is going to make some child cry because they couldn't get Diddy that day. I don't think my choice as a consumer is going to ruin some random collectors/enthusiasts day. When collecting I think it's a fair assumption you won't always get what you want. Any Amiibo that I'm interested in I use and the others make great items on my shelf close to my game display. In the current climate of Amiibo's it's pretty much preorder and have a 75-85% of getting your figure or take your chances and hunt for it in the retail space with low expectation of finding it (if it's one of the more difficult to come by ones). People buying multiple of one figure to sell at double or triple the market value aren't making things any better. Quite the opposite actually. They're the ones that deter fans of a character that want to purchase an Amiibo from getting one at reasonable price. I haven't done this and don't intend to. That kind of activity needs to be regulated better and the only thing you can do as a consumer is say no to it and look for your Amiibo elsewhere.

rant/

No you are not because you didn't buy it with the knowledge of it being rare because it was rare at the time.

It doesn't help they might announce a game or amiibo support featuring a character later on. For example, I still don't care that much for Villager, but now I want Wii Fit Trainer & Marth because I know they work in that 3DS One Piece game, therefore making them feel more useful to me. & I wanted Fox after hearing Star Fox for Wii U would have it & again, that One Piece game, so of course after hearing he'd be more useful in games I'd have interest in is when he starts to be rare & hard to find.

& this is taking into account I wouldn't mind some characters like Little Mac & Pit who're from games I like, but I don't know if I want them right now since eventually down the line, they MIGHT be used for other games. Do I buy them now because I like them and take the risk that I hope they're "useful" to me or do I wait for Nintendo to make more games that support them, but then deal with the fact they're harder to find?

Buying because of rarity is absolutely a concern that comes second to buying because it's part of the set. Collecting a complete set is a natural goal to set here.

Though if I was going to skip any amiibo, it would definitely be Wii Fit Trainer. I imagine she got quite a few "just because it's rare" purchases.

I think Nintendo would be insane to announce a game using any Amiibo that isn't readily available. Could you imagine the uproar if Captain Toad had Little Mac or Pit levels, when no one can buy them? And what third-party dev is going to want to use these when stock is so screwed up?

I do hope they eventually make a Lucina, otherwise it may be too late for me to find a reasonable price for Marth. lol

I just hope that her and Robin don't end up getting hit with the exclusive stick. I'm gonna' be a sad fellow if they pull that.

I suppose that's when the "cards" will come into play. Essentially they serve the same purpose, so it's a smart move by Nintendo if they have no intentions of bringing amiiibos back once they sell through. I wouldn't personally spend money on cards though. I might if it were coins. Might. It also depends on when and if they roll out.

Well like I said, the One Piece 3DS game (which was released Nov. 14th) has costumes you can unlock & of those amiibo, Fox, WFT, & Marth are part of the set. Granted, this is Namco, & I don't know the rarity of those 3 in Japan, but should Namco bring the game to the US & keep the amiibo support, it's going to be much harder for me to unlock outfits based on said characters compared to Mario or Luigi. Yes, it's just a cosmetic unlock that doesn't change the gameplay, but I'd still like to unlock & use it.

If they make the cards via determined bundles or separately, then I'm open to the idea, but unless it's Pokemon or possibly Animal Crossing with villagers, furniture, wallpaper, etc., then I sure as hell hope it's not random.

....also it should be pogs so then we can say that Marth's back....in pog form.

I'm in need of some extra cash so I'm selling three of my Amiibos. None of them are really rare unfortunately. I will only ship to the USA. I've got:

Luigi
Zelda
Diddy Kong

Looking to get $45 through PayPal for all three. PM me if you're interested.

not interested but you're asking for a lot of money for what I assume is open, and even if its not open, 2/3 are pretty common and could be bought cheaper brand new even with tax(at least in nyc)

I got my Captain Falcon in the mail today from Target when they had them go up shortly on 12/31. The package is pretty much pristine, which doesn't matter to me since I'm just going to open it. My Pit from Amazon should be arriving tomorrow. That's the one I really want. That figure looks freaking sweet.

I haven't been too interested in collecting all the Amiibos, but I recently decided to finally jump on some of the ones I've wanted. I'm starting with Samus, Little Mac (F5ing all day on Amazon and praying...), and C. Falcon (Got lucky last week and ordered him on Amazon). I decided to hunt for Samus today since I've been hearing that they're becoming rarer, and I decided to just drive to Target after work since just last week the stores in my area were full of Samus Amiibos... But I ended up having to go to 4 different stores before I finally found a few leftovers at Toys R Us... I begrudgingly paid the higher than normal TRU price just to be safe, since I wasn't going to take a chance after most of the stores in my area were cleared out of all Samus' in just a week. This whole thing is seriously a mess...

Also, I noticed that of the 5 Samus' that were left at the TRU I went to, all of them had some degree of lean to the left. I picked the one that had the least noticeable leftward lean, but it's still enough to be sort of annoying. My friend's Samus has the same problem. Is this as common as it seems?

Oh man, Pit IS freaking sweet. I think best look is probably a toss-up between Fox, Samus, and him.

Was actually bummed out by Falcon. I see that's a minority opinion though. :p

If they are not open and that price includes shipping, it's not horrible. You'll probably pay more than that with tax and shipping at anywhere else. Except maybe Amazon or Bestbuy with their free shipping deals. If I was him I'd offer $40 for the three shipped. They are common enough one could just walk in their nearest store and pick them up. That and there isn't much incentive of purchasing from a random person over a store.

They're all new in box. Guess I should have mentioned that. I guess I could have checked what they were going for on Amazon too haha.

Quite common sadly. Drunk Samus is the sort of nickname for them.

I was able to put a pre-order for Mega Man, and I'm just looking online for the best prices for King Dedede & Meta Knight. Any suggestions?

Fox does look really nice, wasn't a big fan of the Starfox games though and passed on him. The only ones I have right now are Samus and Link, both look awesome standing by my Wii U and in front of my games, so I'm looking forward to adding Pit to the mix. I think a Zero Suit Samus would look great as well. And I really, really like Bowser and Mega Man too. I could go on and on, lol. I just wish they had more functionality. I'm only using them for MK8 and HW and from a usage standpoint, I can't justify purchasing many more. :/ (I kind of want any related to Legend of Zelda as well, but again, I don't know what I'm going to do with them)

In US your only options really are Gamestop and Walmart. Both about the same price. I know Walmart ships free on orders of $50 but they both offer in store pickup as well

Actually, I think I'm going to pick up Zelda. Looking at Ganon from Smash, I can only think of how awesome the figure would look. That said, I think I have to have the trinity of Link/Zelda/Ganon.

Every time I see one of these amiibo displays I wonder what things would be like if they placed either Marth, Villager, or WFT in the display with the main characters.

It makes me so sad that in Australia, sometimes we don't even get a dedicated space for Amiibos in shops. Sometimes they're just on top of a cabinet and there's like 8 of them for the entire month as that shop's shipment.

I just came back from Canada and you all had that nice little Amiibo screen explaining what the things do and quite a selection of them.

US or EU? Pretty sure Gamestop still has Dedede.

Canada, and unfortunately, none of the stores in Vancouver are allowing Dedede pre-orders. I was hoping for an online alternative. I know Amazon France will have them, but I don't want to pay too much for shipping.

This is exactly how I feel. I started buying Amiibo BEFORE I even owned a Wii U BEFORE I knew about the ridiculous supply issues they would have. But I'm a huge smash fan and knew I would own a Wii u eventually and bought some figures when I saw them on sale at TRU. Sure I bought some characters that aren't completely my favorite but I definitely LIKE quite a few characters that I wouldn't mind having figures for. But now I'm at a point where I'm buying figures out of fear. Fear that I may eventually like playing as that character and I don't want to spend $100+ because some greedy dirtbag bought all 30 of a certain character in the whole dam city.

So now I live in a world where I will most likely never own a villager Amiibo even though I just tried him out recently and really like his quirky moveset. His name would have been Pillager BTW because he's such a klepto.

And for the record, Daily Dose, you sound like a broken record of foolishness and ignorance. You come in here saying almost all of us are as bad as these leeching scalpers. You comment on everyone's posts saying they're not true fans and don't appreciate the characters if they don't but them the SECOND they get released. Many of us have TONS of favorite Nintendo characters we grew up with and we shouldn't have to buy every single one on day one out of fear. So just stop with the defending of scalpers and calling us the same. Scalpers like "John" and that guy from Chicago are a plague to a fun collecting hobby.

You don't care about region? If nothing goes awry with my Gamestop, I have an extra pre-ordered. Could send that to you for retail plus ship cost. Though I assume shipping would still be pretty high since I live in the US.

Wouldn't bet on anything since preorder means nothing but yeah. :p

I appreciate the offer, but unless if you live as close as Seattle, I just don't want to pay for the additional shipping. It had hurt already when I had picked up the Villager from Amazon Germany, and that came to $41 all together.

True it would be nice to have EB (or wherever) show an educational Amiibo video instead of showing ORAS gameplay in all it's pixelated glory... The last store I went into that actually had any amiibos on shelves had like 5 marios and 15 pikachus and that was it.

The upside to being Aussie though is not having to deal with this retailer exclusive BS. Can't wait for Ike/Wave 3 to release!

I don't agree with the majority of hypocrites hating on scalpers when they take one inventory from the shelf. They bought the figure because its rare not because they truly appreciated it. If they know it is rare they are aware of the low stock of these figures. Low stock of these figures prevent true fans of these characters to go in the store and buy them. Which the so called collector has blocked him from because he bought the last one from the store simply because it was rare. Just as bad as scalping and even worse when making fun of scalpers when they are a rare hoarder.

Oh please this is true shit.

Scalpers are trying to make a profit - those who want a rare item to add to their collection are not the same...at all

I get ya'. Shipping is a pain. Learned that from my Pokemon card days. Japanese imports had you paying more for shipping than the cards...

Good luck with your hunt! I don't expect him to be ultra rare with Rainbow Curse coming out so soon. Hopefully that makes it easier to find him.

My Captain Falcon shipped!

Told you all you had to do was give Best Buy some time.

No you are not because you didn't buy it with the knowledge of it being rare because it was rare at the time.

To be fair Canada recently got a restock for Diddy. Went fast, no surprise, so walking into that EB Games I knew that Diddy wasn't rare but unusual to come by in it's current status. Haven't seen another one since.

You have a link? I might share a few choice words.

The best choice words would be: "hi I'd like to buy a few of your amiibo. Let's meet." Set up a time and place. Don't meet. Someone else on her then rinse and repeat. Waste their time. Offer to pay more. Make his/her mouth water with your offers and stand them up. Best way to punish I say.

Don't feel like you need to apologize for anything, I think a good chunk of people in this thread are also planning to collect a majority of them. At the end of the day you are buying it as a legitimate customer rather than as a second hand seller, so you're in good company of moneyless Nintendo diehards. ;)

I wouldn't go that far. That's borderline harassment.

Got my Falcon canceled on me from TRU seems I'll never get Falcon,Pit or little Mack.I hated telling my kid his Falcon was canceled I guess that'll teach me to not get his hopes up till its in my hand.

Well I'm on the Amiibo bangwagon.

Just ordered 10 figures from Amazon Germany. Big one I really
wanted was Fox and got him. Just need to find Little Mac and Falcon.
