I was thinking about the inevitable Pokemon amiibo line, and I hope they don't just do cards. I'd like to see figures of the 50 or so most popular ones. Because damn do I want Blastoise, Nidoking, Dragonite, Arcanine, Lugia, Ho-Oh etc sitting on my shelf.
My bad, forgot not everyone read the thread earlier. We actually discussed this earlier, but I decided I am going to propose to her in Feb. Her favorite character is Rosalina and she's a massive gamer (she got me into Amiibo collecting). She's my childhood friend (knew he since we were 4). So I'm going to make a custom Rosalina w/ red box and red dress, and have the ring be around Luma.
Just got thrown off, because of what she just said at dinner (she had been dropping hints at wanting to get married, hence why I brought up my plans this morning). Then she just straight up asked at dinner just now.
Going to just play it off, and I'll still do the proposal in Japan in Feb and keep it a surprise. It's all good.

Damn, I hope my GF is like you and loves this idea. Her favorite character is Rosalina. I'm going to really make the custom Rosalina look real (red dress/red box), and have the ring sit on Luma. Still not sure how to give the Amiibo to her. Was going to do it in Kyoto Japan. Our trip was set for Jan, but we pushed it back to Feb 15th.

Have you considered going to a store prematurely as asking them to do a bit for her where you go to purchase a Rosalina but they go "Oh no you don't want this one, you'll want this special edition one" and have them over glorify it? xD

Someone suggested going to their Retro game stores, and doing this. Trying to decide if that is, nice enough. It plays into the Amiibo thing perfectly (it being on the shelf). I just wonder if it would be better to just find a really really nice beautiful spot in Kyoto where we can be by ourselves. Maybe slip the Amiibo in a shopping back (would visit a game store earlier in the day).
Then when we are in the spot, say HEY...btw I got something for you at the game store. And then grab it from the bag and hand it over, and watch as she looks it over and sees what it is (she'll know something is different because the color is red).
Not sure if I should do something like that, or just have it done in the retro game store itself. Hmmm.

Congratulations! You can tell her you were planning on proposing to her too, but don't tell her exactly what you were going to do in Japan, then still go ahead and do it when you're there. Or you can wait until you get to the point when you were planning on proposing and tell her that you were gonna propose, but since she already did, instead...you do whatever you were planning for your proposal. Whatever you prefer (or maybe whatever you think she'd prefer),
Just said, yes, I want to get married. Hopefully after our trip, once I'm doing better with the PTSD/cancer stuff, we can start talking about it. She wasn't disappointed, she just wanted to know what I thought about out future. She was really happy I said I wanted to, and kissed me.
This actually worked out, because now I know she won't say no. LOL So it makes all the extra planning and stuff worth it.
The nerdy side of me kind of says the game shop, but I feel like that spot in Kyoto would be considered much more romantic & you'll always have that special memory of proposing during your trip to Japan.
Considering you now know she'll absolutely say "yes", it seems like proposing in public is okay now, since it usually can be seen as putting someone on the spot because now they have an audience expecting them to say yes when the person might not be ready, which just results in complete awkwardness if they say no. But again, she already has the idea in mind, so she probably won't feel "on the spot" in thinking of a response.
Either way, it sounds like either method will result in both of you being happy.

If I did it outside, it wouldn't be in front of others. I would definitely make sure that we were alone (in a really pretty spot). IF...I do the retro gaming store, def would be more people around. Unless I could set it up with the owner, to let me have the store to myself for 10 min. But not sure if that is realistic, and lol most Japanese don't speak every good English.
Location doesn't really matter IMO. People put too much emphasis on location and money. If she really loves you, she won't care where it's at. We already had this trip planned, because her family is from Kyoto (she's half Japanese). I've lived in Japan before, and I love it there. So was going to show her around Tokyo/Kyoto and Osaka. So it just lined up. I don't think I would set up a trip around a proposal.
Is this just fantasy?

In other news, I called up some of my friends at the Woodlands who don't give two shits about any of the Amiibos to look for a Super Target within a 50 mile radius. Two of them have work 60 miles away (god bless their souls), so they said they'll keep me posted if they find it.

Just throwing it out there since I didn't get much of a response from B/S/T.
