Amiibo Discussion Thread 2: I Got 99 Pre-orders But A Rosalina Ain't One

EVERYONE PLEASE CALL ALL YOUR LOCAL TARGETS TODAY OR TOMORROW. Ask the manager to implement 1 per customer policy on Rosalina. Tell them they WILL sell them all and they'll have a ton of happy customers vs one happy scalper. Tell them that scalper will resell to THEIR customers for more money. Tell them there have been FIST fights at Targets and TRUs who don't implement this policy. PLEASE DO THIS!!!! I asked four of my local stores, 3 of which are going to implement it.

Azula/Mononoke just got screwed by a scalper at TRU. He was 2nd in line and the scalper was first. Bought them all because asshole manager didn't implement policy.

Can you give us a script?
I'll totally do it I'm just terrible at phone conversation.

So my day so far:

- Gamestop hid all of theirs in back. It looks as though the one I ordered it at isn't getting supply at all unless you preordered for Wave 3. I had some extras ordered that I didn't pay off (since I ordered them from TRU's site as well) and he begged me not to cancel until the product came in just so they could have stock. He also mentioned there's no street date, so as soon as they come in they can sell them but he had no idea when they were coming in.

- TRU was empty about an hour after they opened. They had Bowser on the shelf, that was it for wave 3. I didn't want to stay long so I didn't talk to anyone. I just spoke to someone from their customer service who said if you ordered online, the release isn't until Sunday (2/1) and should start processing normally then. They said there shouldn't be any problems with supply and everything looked normal.

As a side note the story of the 50 yr old crying I feel isn't even hyperbole. I don't like even walking into a store to look for these because of the kinds of people it brings out. Those people are what makes this collecting feel embarrassing to me, and why going to the Smash thing at Best Buy was awful because it was in full force there. I get the disappointment and all, but it makes me not wanna go to Target on Sunday morning and have to deal with the semi-crazy.

So, I'm waiting at TRU to open with only about ten or less people in line when the doors opened and we're told they only got enough to meet pre-orders. WTF Nintendo? How fucking hard is it to mass produce enough figures to fucking meet demand. It's not very hard to figure out, you have the sales data right there with you. simple supply and demand shit.

This scalper nonsense is really annoying. The people I talked to in line were feeling the same way and were getting concerned about Rosalina on Sunday. I told them I called up my local Target and pressed on implementing a limit so one scalper doesn't buy a shit ton, seems they were going to do the same at their Target of choice for Sunday.

My god... this is getting out of control. If this situation of supply issues is gonna be the same once Wave 4 arrives then seriously I'm just gonna stop supporting amiibo. And I REALLY want to own Ness and Pac-Man from wave 4 :(

It is certainly possible but a huge financial risk to buy high, then sell much higher than the competition (eBay is competition for any retailer). It wouldn't make much sense to do that but then again, people don't have much sense.

I know very little about J&L specifically, when I lived in NYC I did not know of their existence or if they were even around back then.

How was the figure quality? I'm wondering if these go out of print if that may be an option for display purposes and set on a stand from another character. I know virtually nothing about 3D printing, or even if it would be a cost effective alternative.

It will depend on the quality of the printer, operator, and depending whether or not you copy the original or recreate in software to print it.

But they can be as good as the original. Major things to avoid are sticking material from the output device ours uses a needle and things like inaccurate copies and making sure there are no breaks or pieces in the design before printing and that its whole. It's not difficult for someone who knows what they are doing... but cost effective? probably not.

Then I got your back then. lol

Yes, I was trying to get Jason one. I'm 100% okay with EU/JP versions, as i'm taking them out of the box and putting them on display. So I have a Lucario secured for my display. Basically here is my horror story:

I had a doctors appointment because I just had surgery 2 days ago. So it was a follow up with the doctor that did it. So my Fiance went in her car, and got to Toys R Us at 9:30. There was only ONE guy in front of her. That store ended up only getting 4 of them, and the guy in front bought all 4. Even though some stores are doing 1 per customer, the dumb ass manager at our TRU didn't give a fuck. My fiance begged the guy to sell her one, and he said NOPE. She called me up crying. I had to calm her down lol and tell her it's okay. Not a big deal (she wasn't upset she couldn't get one, just really mad at the asshole in front of her that bought all of them and then was a dick to her).

So I get out of my appointment. Swing by another TRU that is by my doctors place. Get there. The TRU person right away says, we only got 4 Lucario at this store, and it was only for pre-orders. She then says, no stores near us have them (checked the computer already for another person). The only one that does, is a store 5 hours from us, and it had 100 Lucario in stock. I'm just like WHAT THE FUCK. So why did all my stores only get 4? Why is 4 the magical number? And why the fuck did this random ass store get a fuck ton. What is wrong with the allocation?

Yep, so that's my story.

If anyone can do me a solid, please hook up ThisBeJason with a US version of Lucario. The guy has gone out of his way to hook me up with multiple EU versions of Amiibos. So please please please, if anyone has an extra US one, please consider him. I tried my best to get one for him today, and failed. I'm going to keep trying, as I know he needs it.

Also I apologize for the name change (the admin changed it anyways, despite me deciding not to change it. Oh well. And I just needed to take a break from this, as it was causing me stress at the time. I guess on some level, I just wanted to move on with my life and start fresh. Get away from my past, my cancer etc. And so I just embraced the name change. I'm going to be active again in this thread. I'm now in a better place, where I'm not gonna stress anymore over it).

EDIT: For those that don't know I'm Azula. I had my name changed by accident, but just decided to keep it. Sorry for any confusion.

Also for anyone that is wondering, I was still planning on sending out any Amiibos I promised anyone. I was never not going to (even though I wasn't active). I was just waiting on some of them to still ship, because I ordered over seas and they took fuckin forever. Some of them came in. So for anyone that has one I need to send, please PM me to help me organize.

The image size you used was bigger than the default. Lower the size and it will fit with transparency. GAF doesn't scale with transparency for some reason.

All this panic, and I'm just here sipping tea, tracking my Rosalina pre-order that shipped yesterday....

Was your Avatar larger than 100x120? If GAF has to scale it down, transparency effects get lost.

Such a newbie at this, thanks for the heads up guys

Should be a 2 per person limit. 1 is a little stiff. Lots of people want to pick 1 up for someone else or want a 2nd to keep sealed.

Went to Bay Area TRU at opening, about 15 people in line so I just went inside to check things out. Employees seemed really well prepared and friendly. They only had 2 nonpreoder Lucario's but handed out one per person Bowser, Toon Link, and a couple Sheiks from behind the counter. They had several boxes of Bowser and Toon Link, but I decided to just wait for my Amazon order on those two.

1 per person should be max. As a worker, I don't care about having one to collect. You taking two is you taking one another person could've had.

Wow, what the actual hell. Thank goodness you (I think it was you, right?) sent a foreign one to him. But that's the crap that makes me hate when stores don't do limitations. Should've mentioned it to mine when I checked this morning. Granted, would've prevented me from getting two, one for me & another for the giveaway, but I'd rather just get one to give to someone on here instead of a jerk who buys all of them.

On rare limited ones that people are lining up for I would agree. (like Lucario when they only got in 6)

At this point in the game I only wish to purchase Sheik and Toon Link, then I'm out. This is too much for me. I've had zero luck finding those two in any stores nearby me (South Carolina, US). I've had Sheik "pre-ordered" from Amazon for over a month now, though it's still showing me the message about how they "need time to prepare to give me a shipping date" or something like that.

The whole situation is kind of a bummer. In the grand scheme of life, it's not that important. Yet it's hard not to get a bit frustrated/annoyed when I'm not able to purchase something that I'd like to purchase. This is the first, and will most definitely be the last, time I've ever gotten involved in anything which involved this much amount of hassle.

At the end of the day, I have both Sheik and Toon Link sitting in my shopping cart from Play-Asia ready to be purchased, but I kind of didn't want to have to pay those import prices if I didn't need to. Oh well. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah he hooked me up with the EU version. It will be here Friday. I was down there to try to get Jason one, since he helped me out. Me and my Fiance tried desperately to get one for Jason.

But we failed. That scalper guy was a real asshole. And that manager was an idiot. Sigh.

EDIT: I bought Meta Knight off Play Asia. After the Lucario BS, didn't even want to take a risk with Best Buy having issues. Since I didn't have a pre-order, just made sure to secure one for me.

"Hi I was just hoping to please speak to your manager? Hi my name is ______ and I am just very concerned for your store and its customers on Sunday. The very limited and extremely in high demand "Rosalina Amiibo" will be available for sale. I would kindly ask for you to place a limit 1 Per customer policy for very good reasons.

#1 you will sell all these Amiibo regardless of the "limit 1 per customer policy" BUT you will please most of your customers who wait outside in the cold for you to open rather than please one or two scalpers

#2 these same scalpers will sell Rosalina to your customers for more money, which in essence, is stealing money away from your store that they would probably spend on other Amiibo or other items

#3 it will be a safer environment for your store. There have been actual fist fights at Target and TRU stores who do not implement this policy.

While other Amiibo are non as rare, Rosalina is exclusive to Target and the demand is extremely high, worldwide. She has been released in Europe and Japan for over a week and she sold out instantly. Canada also is not getting her so scalpers are looking to sell high to Canadians.

Would you be willing to do this for your customers? Thank you.

I took a ride to TRU during lunch, and they had a bunch of Bowsers, but not a single Toon Link or Lucario. There were several slots with Lucario's name, but nothing there.

Make sure you tell the people that you are in line with that you are getting one too. Have a conversation with them.

Raise hell when they are checking out if you have to. If they are buying 10 and refuse to give one up raise hell.

Yes it was me. But you can tell your stores to Limit 2 per customer instead.

So I called two of our Targets here in Knoxville, TN. The first one sounded dire when I asked about Rosalina, telling me he couldn't disclose any information for me other than I had better be there at opening because they will sell out (not surprising, but he just had a sort of hostility to his tone. Probably from dealing with scalpers). So I called another Target that's a little lesser known around here and not much farther away. Guy was much friendlier and told me they should have plenty on Sunday as long as I come when they open but not to stress about it. So that's reassuring. Still going to be there at 6:30am though to be safe. This Lucario business has me on edge O.o

Also, picked up a $5 bamboo spice rack at Walmart to display what I've got so far. OoT Link is there to fill in for Toon Link, Mega Man, Sheik, Toad and Rosalina. Whenever they get here...

Both stores near me had Bowser, Toon Link and Shiek last week. But they sold out of Shiek the first day they went on sale. And then today they sold out of all Bowser and Toon Link. They didn't get a single new Wave 3 one today. Only Lucario, but only 4 per store. What a joke.

I really hate this paranoia messages since it would cause more people panic.

Plus I already reported that worker told me that target corporation want to emphasized on limit 1 per costumer.

I'd feel a lot better if TRU updated the Lucario ebay orders. I messaged them and all they said was I'd be emailed when it shipped. Hope they're enjoying that 6 week interest free loan Im giving them.

Thank you very much! I'm totally going to call my Targets after work today!
Fingers crossed!

What is the problem with calling ahead of time, and just asking? I mean you don't have to tell them to enforce it. But you could just politely ask if they are going to have 1 per customer. At the very least, it might help remind an incompetent worker to remember that's what they need to do.

I got my Lucario!

I had kept my pre-order card and receipt, so not much hassle but, up until the moment I had him in my hands, I was weary of that whole "$1 pre-order" process.

I brought my card to the cashier, she called a manager over (she'd never seen one of these, so I guess I was the first pre-order to pick it up today??? At 12:30???). The manager said, "as long as he paid $1, he can have it". Then, a few minutes later (she was back there for a while and I was getting nervous), I had Lucario.

Before I picked him up, I checked out the stock and they were picked bare!

Got to TRU 30 mins before open and was 8 in line. They had 5 extras and 5 orders. I had one ordered but wanted an extra for a friend. Ended up with just my preorder and they had no other wave 3 amiibo.

I did go back to BestBuy and she told me that some of my order will be ready on Sunday, so I guess I will be going to Target in the AM Sunday for Rosalina and hoping I can get her and then pick up the other 3 at BB until the rest of my order is in.

Nintendo of America has been so phenomenally bad at things that after the smash line I won't be fucking with another Amiibo series fer at least a year.

As a side note the story of the 50 yr old crying I feel isn't even hyperbole. I don't like even walking into a store to look for these because of the kinds of people it brings out. Thanks for the TRU update, and thanks for putting your finger on what bothers me about trying to get these in-store. I felt like kind of an asshole for "knowing" that those dudes in stores were heading right for the amiibos, but I was right every time. Glad to see I'm not alone.

I really hate this paranoia messages since it would cause more people panic.

Plus I already reported that worker told me that target corporation want to emphasized on limit 1 per costumer.

You did that's why I've been asking my Targets to double check. Some of them are not getting the message. I would not believe one Target worker saying Corporate is implementing the policy, that's why I was double checking. It would be horrible if I get there Sunday and they didn't know about the policy before it's too late.

I had no idea Lucario had a deep fanbase, while in line a girl was holding about 4 lucario plush's on her with her pre order, she brought them from home i guess.
i guess she was scared someone would call her a scalper cause she had 2 or more pre order slips but nobody said anything .

i should have bought toon link and bowser earlier in the week, all gone now :(
I hope my shulk pre order goes smoothly

NoA x Nintendo really loves to not make more money, in addition to not putting pokemon blue/red on 3DS eshop vc (it'll sell big for nostalgia ) there were about 15 people in line at opening and they had only 3 for non pre orders, i along with the lucario plush girl and this other guy had pre orders

Picked up a Bowser at Gamestop today. Went to TRU just to see if they might have any Wave 3 out and nope. Hopefully that Lucario I ordered from their site ships soon. Planning on going to Target first thing on Sunday to see what I can get there. If all else fails, I guess I have my Amazon Wave 3 preorders (which of course doesn't help me for store exclusives).

I just checked one of the Toys "R" Us stores here in Miami, one of the remaining three, and found out that they got cleaned out of Lucario rather immediately when they opened at 10. And they only had two for people who didn't preorder. Totally ridiculous.

When do Best Buy orders ship? Ordered a Meta Knight a few months ago. Hoping it sends here soon.

I only JUST got a shipping confirmation email for Toon Link. Nothing for MK, Ike, or whoever else i had preordered and forgot about.

Capt. Falcon also shipped late.

But the way I see online orders for amiibos is this: everything is gravy as long as i don't get a cancellation email.

Good point. And yes, the worker on Sunday might not have a freaking clue about the policy and sell the whole stock of Rosalina to the first in line. No one here wants that.
