An Announcement from Iron Maiden

Statement from Nicko McBrain:
After much consideration, it is with both sorrow and joy, I announce my decision to take a step back from the grind of the extensive touring lifestyle. Today, Sat, Dec 7th, Sao Paulo will be my final gig with Iron Maiden. I wish the band much success moving forward.

I will, however, remain firmly part of the Iron Maiden family working on a variety of projects, my long time managers, Rod Smallwood and Andy Taylor, have in mind for me. I’ll also be working on a variety of different personal projects and focusing on my existing businesses and ventures, including The British Drum Company, Nicko McBrain’s Drum One, Titanium Tart, and of course, Rock-N-Roll Ribs!

What can I say? Touring with Maiden the last 42 years has been an incredible journey! To my devoted fan base, you made it all worthwhile and I love you! To my devoted wife, Rebecca, you made it infinitely easier and I love you! To my kids, Justin and Nicholas, thank you for understanding the absences and I love you! To my friends that are always there for me, I love you! To my bandmates, you made it a dream come true and I love you!

I look into the future with much excitement and great hope! I’ll be seeing you soon, may God bless you all, and, of course, “Up the Irons!”

Nicko

Super sad, but predictable given his fragile health and what happened to him last year. I saw them a little over a month ago and I'm happy I got these really good tickets. I suspected the end might be near.

A new tour has been announced and AFAIK, they are continuing with the rest of this tour and the next one. I wonder who will fill in for him.

I saw them at Aftershock in October and I have to say I'm not surprised. Their energy wasn't there and people were walking away

I saw them recently in 2022 in Cologne, and 2023 in Dortmund:

2022 Legacy of the Beast Tour - show was okay. Set list was great, but Bruce was in bad mood and the acoustic was awful.

2023 Future Past Tour- show was excellent, entire band was in great mood, Bruce was really amazing.

Worldwide benchmark for live shows right now is Ghost. I saw their Imperatour a couple of weeks after Maiden Future Past and, man, while I enjoyed Maiden, Ghost was on a level beyond anything I've seen. And I've been to many concerts.

I have tickets for Maiden 2025 Run For Your Lives Tour. Sad it's going to be without Nicko. Bruce will need to work hard if they play faster again with new drummer.

man, I should probably see these guys live. They probably don't have much time left. Not the biggest Iron Maiden fan, but I dig some of their earlier albums.

They're probably way past time to all retire by now anyway. I saw them in 1991 for the first time. And I'm old enough myself now. A bunch of old farts plodding around on a stage trying to recreate the energy of their earlier days is probably a very sad thing to watch.

They are awesome live. I have taken my wife to all kinds of concerts and she said IM is the best she's seen.
