Ancient bumps: Why????

I have to say I don't understand the idea behind the madness of bumping threads that are dusty as all hell... but people keep bumping new threads to post "Hey, I watched this movie today for the first time" and other such reasons.

I think it new threads make discussion far more likely, and at the very least make it fresh. So what's the deal? Are people worried they'll break the forum if they make too many threads? I mean it's one thing to have a new Star Wars movie come out and 800 people make threads about it, and quite another for someone to make a brand new thread about a movie or a book or something else that hasn't been discussed in eons...

Why do they call it ovaltine? The mug is round. The jar is round.

They should call it roundtine.

Because of people who'll race to threads just to say they're OLD and what not. It's getting out of hand.

In that case I'm sure this question is old, now someone just needs to dredge up a link to an older thread and then post: OLD! PWNED!!!11

Yeah, for some reason, I really hate pointless bumping of ancient thread.

If there's an actual purpose behind it, ie. follow-up on a situation, then it's all right, but otherwise, it drives me crazy

I think bumping a thread when it comes to a movie or even something like a book is okay, because we don't want a new I JUST SAW EPISODE 3 thread every few days.

But the pointless ones are stupid and I used to just ban people for doing it.

I could never drink that stuff. Even if it tasted good, the name reminds me of medicine. I mean, WTF. No wonder more people drink Quik or just put good old chocolate syrup in milk.
